This is definitely one of my go-to places for specifically grilled mackerel (Godeungeo Gui). It comes with Jjigae/soup (choose between soybean, riceh soybean, and seaweed), but I don't usually care for it so I always pick seaweed since it's good for you. Complimentary banchan is given, but not our favorite. Our other go-to dish is the Samgye Tang (ginseng chicken soup) since it's very hearty and good for you especially when you're feeling under the weather. Same with the mackerel! Our total came out to be $225 post-tax. My favorite was the Bossam. Essentially, this dish enabled me to create my own cabbage + pork burger with kimchi and garlic and jalapeños as my add-ons. The budae jeongol was the party's favorite. They loved the flavor! My favorite appetizer was the spicy stir fried squid! The others loved the seafood pancake. I think all of the dishes hit the spot! We had an extremely disturbing experience at Danji. While dining with our baby, we were preparing to go to the restroom to change a diaper after being reminded by staff. We immediately stood up and complied. However, the staff member (maybe the owner)continued to question us aggressively, and as he walked away, he turned around and said the Korean profanity "ssibal (씨발)" toward us -- an extremely vulgar curse word equivalent to the F-word in English. This was shocking, abusive, and completely unacceptable behavior toward customers, especially a family with a child. This restaurant clearly lacks basic professionalism and respect. I had a decent experience here, ordered a jjigae and others ordered the ginseng chicken soup and the mackarel casserole. The ginseng chicken soup was simple and light, but not much ginseng flavor. Decided to try this place out with my mom after hearing good things about their food. Overall, I thought the food was great! My mom got Galchi gui & chungookjang jjigae and I got yukgaejang. Before the main dishes come out, they give you 6 assorted side dishes with warm white rice. They all tasted great and the main dishes came out soon after. The grilled fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I don't usually like grilled fish, but I thought it was delicious. The side of chungookjang jjigae was pretty good too! My yukgaejang was huuuuuuuge. Honestly was bigger than my hand. Also, not bad. Although the food doesn't come anywhere close to my mom's home cooking, I say this place is pretty great for a restaurant with great prices. This spot is a go-to dine in spot for my parents, so I was excited to give it a first try. I was highly disappointed, however, after tasting the food. The biji-jigae had no seasoning and tasted extremely bland, the spicy pork was also pretty subpar & the meat quality wasn't great, and the grilled mackerel was also nothing special. Everyone in our family was extremely disappointed by the experience and we're surprised that the food quality could diminish this greatly when dining in vs getting take out. When you walk in you are hit with the smell of chung guk jang, which is a traditional Korean fermented bean stew. To some it may be a hash smell that takes some getting used to, but for me its the smell of home :) I think the fish dishes here are great, my favorite being the joki gui. The Sweet and Spicy Fried Chicken is amazing -- it's extra crispy and glazed with a flavorful, well, sweet and spicy sauce. The toppoki with ramen is also tasty; it has just the right amount of rice cakes and vegetables (and ramen!). If you are in the mood for soup, I'd recommend the budae jigae -- it has sausage, tofu, fish cakes, and more. Didn't know it was the same restaurant as Tosokchon in Annandale. I go to the one I'm Annandale for lunch occasionally cause it's closer to my work but this is even better! It's close to my house now I can even come here during weekends as well. I normally get Chunggookjang (which is fermented bean soup, it does acquire taste and smell - not for Korean food beginners) at their Annandale location but now I can eat here as well! Today I had their Gobchangjeongol (spicy intestine soup) it was really good. Gobchang (intestines) was so soft and didn't have that particular smell when you treated wrong. The portion was so big I think 4 people can eat it more than enough (it was me and my sister and I brought more than half home).
