    Sakoonthai Duck

The pros - cute restaurant, tastefully decorated, clean. Service was attentive. Sodas reasonably priced at only $2.50. The cons - the food. I ordered the Sakoonthai Duck which is fried duck with crispy basil on top. The meat was so tough you couldn't cut it with a fork, which is a problem because they only give you a spoon and fork. So I had to pick up the pieces and bite them in half. The meat had the consistency of beef - not duck. I don't know how they made duck meat SO tough. My husband got the drunken noodles and said it was just "eh". Portions were small. At $19 for the duck I would expect leftovers, though honestly I wouldn't have taken them home anyway. The rice was good though.

I have been here 3 times now and it has been consistent and enjoyable each time - service, food, and experience overall. The restaurant is a longer, more compressed layout that has a lot of seating for a smaller space, but it can really fill up. The service is consistent across servers that I've experienced - they are neutrally friendly; the service is a little over the bare minimum, but not disappointing. They won't make you feel like you're special but instead like you're just another customer that they are going to feed and send on your way. No complaints. The food is consistently good, hence we keep coming back when we visit the area. We normally get the summer rolls, thai red curry, and pad thai. It's fresh, delicious, and something I look forward to enjoying when we are in town.

Good weekday lunch special - could use a little more spice. 3.5 stars - the extra half a star for the side choice selection. I had the lunch special here on a Friday and it was pretty darn good. Tastes were authentic but the "spicy" dishes could have used more spice. The lunch special offers 2 sides from among 3 choices: fried spring roll, papaya salad, or tom yum chicken soup. Since I had dining companions, I tried all three. The fried spring roll was average. It was not a fried stick of tasteless goo like at some other places. It had decent structure inside and good flavor, but it was rather plain. The sweet chili sauce on it was average and also had somewhat of an artificial pinkish hue to it. The tom yum chicken soup was similarly average but tasty enough to be satisfying. In my opinion, the papaya salad was the best of these three. It was crisp and fresh tasting, and had a good hint of chili spice to it. For entrees, we had the garlic tofu, drunken noodles, and chicken pad krapow. The garlic tofu came in a ring of undercooked broccoli. It could have been steamed longer or integrated with the cooking of the tofu and sauce. The flavor profile was lighter and less intense than at other Thai restaurants. Both the drunken noodles and the pad krapow delivered with familiar flavors, but underperformed on spice level. They were both denoted on the menu with 2 chili symbols but really came out weak (1 or less on the Universal Thai Spice Scale - UTSS). I'd come back here for the lunch special, or just to try anything else off the full menu, but I'd want to ask the kitchen to up their seasoning to match UTSS standards.

When we are up in the D.C. area, this is one of our favorite stops! I ordered the Thai Red curry (with extra sauce - you will understand when you try it)! My daughter ordered the Pad Thai with tofu. We split the Kanin Jeeb Dumplings and Spring Rolls! This place is always clean, never too busy (they do a lot of take out orders), the staff is very kind and attentive, and the food is AMAZING!!! This is one stop we do not miss when in town!!!

Love this local spot for Thai, the only thing that is hard is how small the space is. If you don't get there are the right time, you won't be getting a table! The yum watercress is our favorite appetizer, and we love the duck curry.

I came here for lunch, and the portions were a little smaller than I expected, especially for a lunch special. I would've preferred more of the entree and less of the appetizer. Service was pretty fast and friendly. I also like the vibes of the restaurant, small but cute.

Okay so I've been here multiple times but this is the first time I've been here for a lunch special and I really liked it. You get not one appetizer but you get TWO choices ! I got the Tom yum soup and the papaya salad and I liked the fact that I got variety ! I also ordered the ginger chicken dish and it was delicious and if you can't handle the spice no worries because it was savory and not spicy at all. The staff was very friendly and it's always so cute inside. I will definitely be back for the lunch special.

Still my go-to Thai restaurant in Clifton. This is a small but mighty restaurant with only hits. I've tried most of the things on the menu and have so many favorites from chicken ka paow, pad Thai, drunken noodles, green curry, tofu kapaow. The most surprising thing on the menu is their yum watercress salad. I've never seen this on the menu any where, but it's delicious. It's deep fried watercress with shrimp, squid, chicken, in a fish saucey, lime dressing with cilantro and cashew. It's tangy, savory, spicy- I'm drooling. It's a must try! Service has always been good whether dining in or taking out.

Updating my review to 5 stars! TL;DR: our go-to for Thai food; dine in is better than take out for most noodle dishes Read my previous review for more detail. We love this spot and it is consistent, delicious, and close. Favorite dishes: ~Drunken Noodle ~Pad See Ew ~Basil Fried Rice ~Larb Gai ~All the curries ~Thai Tea ~Soft Shell Crab Signature Dish ~Pad Thai ~Kapow ~Crab Fried Rice Inside is small and cute (so there may be a bit of a wait if dining in). Service is always stellar!

Everything was tasty but this wouldn't be my first choice for a Thai restaurant. The duck roll seemed pretty small for $8 although it was yummy. I also noticed that the drunken noodle portion was a lot smaller than the pad Thai entree. Overall everything was just okay

Great decor inside with some nice outdoor seating options. We saw it had good reviews and after eating the food I understood why. The flavors they used were strong and tasty and when you ask for it to be spicy that's what they give you! Papaya salad was very fresh and had a great ratio citrus to fish sauce. The red curry was packed with flavor and the drunken noodles did not congeal at all. Really thoughtful and quick service

One of the highlights of the night was meeting the owner, Jason. The space is very small, maybe 10 tables. There's some parking that might be available in a small lot across the street and a half block away. I ordered Tom Ka Gai soup with Chicken, and Drunken Noodles with beef. Seems simple enough. And yet, there were three issues with these two dishes. I was really hopeful when they brought out my bowl of soup, mostly because it was a BOWL of soup and not the more typical cup-sized serving. The bad news was that the soup was tasteless. It consisted of a watery broth, some chunks of chicken, and a few mushrooms. (Issue #1). The six of us were two or three spoonfuls into our soups when the waiter brought our entrees. I don't know about you, but I like to finish one course before the next one is brought to my table, and I'm faced with having to decide which dish I want to let get cold. (Issue #2) In this case, the choice seemed obvious. I pushed the bowl of soup away and dug into my Drunken Noodles. Like many people, I typically order Drunken Noodles at Thai restaurants. I've had it dozens of times without any problems. I say "Drunken Noodles," they bring it (usually after I've finished my soup or appetizer), and I enjoy it. That's not what happened this time. This time, it was almost too spicy to eat. It was MUCH spicier than any other Drunken Noodles-es I've had. And I wasn't alone; another one of us could only handle a few bites of her food before giving up. (Issue #3) I may give this place another try, and if I do, my visit will include the advice that I just shared with you at the top of this review.
