It was a generally good experience working with Factotum (this company is a special partner with…read moreFloor and Decor where you shop for tiles): excellent communication before project began (so-so communication after project started); professional, knowledgeable about all things tiles; wore uniform and masks all the time; on time arrival for work each morning; courteous (telling us they were off to lunch break, etc.); detail oriented (always asking us about details before installing something, such as the orientation of the patterns on the tiles, which types of tiles to install where, etc). The best part: The representative met up with us in Floor and Decor and shopped for tiles with us (like concierge service!); his knowledge about types of tiles was super helpful. Clarity and excellent communication before project began. The worst part: communication (responsiveness / accuracy) really deteriorated after the project started. We had to call, text message and chase down one of them (our project manager was almost missing in action) for questions big or small. The demolition was primarily just one day (first day). They took out the toilet and the shower lever and shower head. They had to take out the bathtub as well at a later stage. They stripped all the tiles. The crew piled up all the tiles and raw material neatly on the floor of our apartment near the entrance, taking up only reasonable space (we still work from home and live here 24/7, so we appreciate their keeping the job site and the pile of material neat). They kept work area and generally our condo clean during both demolition and installation phases were; tidy and neat; they clean up before leaving the job site every day. They protected our floor. The representative (or project manager) who did the measurements, gave us the quote, and was our point of contact was good, though he overpromised and under-delivered on some items: he said they could complete the renovation of our master bathroom within 7 working days (reality: 2 weeks!); he said the crew would work on Saturdays (nope: Mondays to Fridays only); he said the crew would bring the wax ring to re-install our toilet (hope, we had to run to Home Depot to buy it on the day of; wish there's some advance notice); and he said his crew can install frameless glass shower door (as advertised in Floor and Decor; but they did refund us the $450, labor, for glass installation), but nope: they refused to do it because of lack of experience (we had to get a quote and sign a contract with a separate company in the end, wasting precious time). Unpleasant surprise: We had "splasher" tiles at the bottom of the walls (floor was tile, and some tile 'grew' upwards around the bottom of the walls). We did not have base boards. They tore all this out of course before installing new tiles. However, we were told very late in the project that we now needed 7" baseboards to fully cover up the unsightly tears on the wall. This is very hard to find. Impossible! We went to Home Depot, and wasted so much time there. They only sold 5" baseboards (The standard). We bought the widest we could find. Wrong! The crew said it's still not enough. In the end, the crew went and bought the correct base boards (actually two combined to reach the correct height). All's well that ended well, but we wish the project manager communicated all this earlier and more accurately. We often scrambled at the last minute. Every day brought new crises. It didn't have to be this way. This being a condo, initially the crew were planning on cutting the tiles (a messy, dusty, noisy process) outside. We don't have a balcony sadly. So the only place possible would be the garage downstairs. That would have dragged on our project even longer. In the end they found a way to fit their tools in our bathroom and did all the cutting in there (very noisy; so much dust throughout the apartment beyond the bathroom, but worth the shorter project timeline).

The initial response time and set up were prompt. The correspondence from set up though customer…read moreservice rep Jasmine was exceptional. The person who did measurements was very precise. However, the installation was worse than horrible. The two technicians took a very long time for installation, stated the sink would be installed by another technician and left it unassembled. I had to call a plumber to take a look at the damages and repair since we went without a functional sink for 2 days. There were stains on the stainless steel sink from the chemicals used to coat the counters that are not removable. One of my kitchen cabinet drawer was found broken and did not roll open and close as it was prior, they forced the drawer back in and damaged the rollers. When I reached out to the company to report these issues, they were going to send the same technicians who caused the damages for repair! I declined and sought professionals to fix these damages, amounting to $1,089- this is in addition to the countertop bill. The damages from install were permanent and the reason for my one star rating. This was a property I am selling. For my next home, I would pay more for better installation service from the get-go so I do not have to endure the headache of fixing damages from the countertop installation.

Check the dates on their reviews; most are old…read more I called and scheduled a free estimate. A day later, they rescheduled because one estimator was out of town. The new appointment was for the next week. When the day came, NO SHOW. I called and the lady told me that their other estimator was in Florida and asked to reschedule again. I said no thank you. How can they not even get estimations scheduled right. It's your first impression with the customer. Also, if someone is dealing with a basement flooding issue, this is not the kind of response you'd want to deal with. Do not recommend.

Received an estimate and paid over $10K to waterproof basement (foundation leak) in February 2016…read more Biggest sell was the "Lifetime Guarantee" for materials and workmanship. Flooding immediately from the garage door. They refuse to fix it because Anne Arundel County installed the grate in front of the garage door, with a drain pipe leading to a sump pump just inside the garage. After 6 years of floods, I finally recognized the problem: Action had removed the drain pipe and replaced it with drain tile that cannot handle heavier rains, causing the grate to overflow and flood the garage. Action never documented their visits, so this summer I tried something different: I made an appointment saying I had additional work, not warranty work, done. When the inspector showed up, I let HIM identify the problem, pointing out the issue was the drain tile that replaced the County's pipe can't handle the load. The inspector then refused to honor the warranty--again--but offered to have an Action foreman and crew come out and "fix my problem" for $1,000 cash. Still nothing in writing. Wondering how "corporate" was implicated (was this unofficial policy--avoiding honoring Lifetime Guarantees, potentially saving tens of thousands in repeat work?, or would the owners be upset that its employees were performing unpermitted and unauthorized work for untaxed income?). I received a text with the name of the foreman coming on the weekend and waited. They arrived in company trucks and uniforms. I took pictures and told them to leave. I went to the police station and tried to file a complaint but they said to report it to the MHIC first. I did and, again, waited. Today, the MHIC rejected the complaint as being 3 years past the original work. Time to file that police complaint and hire an attorney. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I am very disappointed with my experience. The company did not honor the written scope of work that…read morewe agreed to and that I paid for. After the specifications were finalized, they changed the plans without my consent and refused to complete the project as originally promised. They also attempted to pressure me into paying for incomplete work, using statements about their "financial difficulty" to guilt me. As an elderly customer, this behavior felt manipulative and deeply unprofessional. I strongly advise others to get everything in writing and be cautious.
