I went here to look at good quality, made in America footwear, but almost immediately after walking through the door I heard the clerk saying some pretty offensive things that were politically motivated. Love their show and have had 4 pairs (3 boots, 1 pair of shoes). Like going here when we visit from CA as there is no sales tax and its the main store so they have all the styles and usually have my size in stock. Its close to PDX and not to bad to get to. People are always friendly and helpful and they have a large outlet sections as well with great prices if you can find your size. Have yet to use but some of their shoes are re-craftable and I find that appealing to save money and help with less waste. They are a bit more but think what you would save over getting another pair. read more

Dear Danner Boots, where have you been all my life? Ok, I know, Portland Oregon. It's been years since I've had a really great pair of hiking boots. Now, I still have my Vasque Hiker II mountaineering boots, over 40 years old and going strong, great for climbing but not the most comfortable choice for long hikes. I've just grown tired of getting a pair of boots broken in to the point of being comfortable, and within a year the glue fails and they're falling apart. Now, this never happens at a good time, usually miles away from camp and on the trail. Thank goodness for duct tape! I've had that happen to me with Columbia boots (covered under warranty) and the latest casualty a pair of two week used Timberlands (returned to Timberland, waiting to see what they will do about the warranty). I made a pledge to myself, no more glued boots! My old and trusted Vasque's were made the old fashioned way, stitched-down (Norwegian-welted) with Vibram soles. Sadly Vasque boots are no longer made that way. Internet research led me to Danner Boots, made in the U.S.A. that reviews say about the Mountain Light II, "Is the most comfortable boot I've tested........keeps getting more comfortable the longer I use it". This was one of many reviews that said the same thing. They even make boots for the USMC! To top it off, Danner offers factory boot reconditioning. Wear out the soles, just like the Bionic Man, they will rebuild them....even better than new, because they're yours and already broken in. Now buying a USA made quality pair of boots doesn't come cheap, the price for admission is $380.00. However I feel my feet are worth it. I'm looking forward to hiking many miles read more

My family and I stopped here on our drive back home to SF from Seattle. My husband has been using Danner for years since his Army and law enforcement days, but we've never visited a store. He swears by the quality and I can tell by the sheer amount of Danner boots he has lined up in our bedroom (sigh). This place is huge. There is something for everyone here. We got some boots for our daughter who will be training with them (competitive shooting). I got a pair of Rainbow brand flip flops for my island girl feet in need of something long lasting. Of course the hub got another pair of boots and also some great quality socks. Everything was either already knocked off in price or on sale (25% off for Fathers Day). Staff was super helpful and friendly. Between my husband, daughter, and me, we had contact with several staff. When we first got there, I waited outside with our little Pom (see photo), but someone came over and said it was okay to bring him in. Customer service is literally none existent. I had a pair of Danner work boots for 2 years. Within 30 days of buying them they started to fall apart and yet they survived 2 more years. I went back to Danner to buy another pair and upon entering the store I noticed 3 people on staff about 5 customers total, including myself. No one bothered to greet myself or the gentleman entering behind me. We both walked around for 20 minutes or more without a single word said. I left and went to Red Wing. They have AMAZING customer service, new technology to help fit shoes more efficiently and a good selection of work boots. Best of all they have a wonderful return policy. Not only is Danner no longer an American company with quality shoes at an affordable price they also have zero customer service and no return policy. read more

If you need a good pair of boots do yourself a favor and take a good look at Danner. They are the best boots I have ever owned. I have never been one of those people who understood spending a fortune on shoes. For years I would buy a pair of boots that cost between $50-100 and they would work ok for around a year at most. By that point they'd be torn to shreds and I'd repeat the cycle. I tried pretty much every brand from High-tec to Bates and everything in between. They all had glued on soles and were primarily fake leather and nylon. That all changed one year when a co-worker told me about Danner. My feet have never been the same. Danner boots are made in america, by hand, and feature soles stitched to the real leather upper. What does that mean for the user? These boots are tough as nails and will take any abuse you can dish out. My first pair were the all leather Acadias. Those boots took forever to break in, but once broken in, they were unstoppable. I put those boots through absolute hell. My pair of Acadias made it though mud, muck, swamp, multiple hurricanes including Katrina, several hundred thousand miles of driving, abandoned lots, abandoned houses, and so much more. I finally retired them when it was time to start wearing shiny dress shoes daily. Fast forward a few years and it was time to lace up the boots again. My Danners were back on my feet and still more comfortable than any other pair of work shoe I've ever owned. The insoles finally were worn completely smooth and it was time for a new pair. I picked the lower top Danner Patrol and while they cost around $350, this is the best money I have ever spent. This pair of boots is even more comfortable than my Acadias and has seen more mud and muck than a shoe every should. It not only laughs at the abuse, it takes a nice shine as soon as I hose them off. So did I toss my old Acadias in the garbage? Hell no! Would you do that to an old friend? I plan on having those boots refracted so that I can wear those when the crap gets too deep for my Patrols. There is no better boot than a USA made Danner. If you get a pair you will know what I'm talking about. read more

So I gotta say, when my husband told me we were going to be making a stop at the Danner Boots factory store in Portland I had no idea what I was in for, or just how cool it would be! Every inch of the space had something interesting to see. They carried a few other brands as well, from yeti coolers to Pendleton blankets, and a few others. My favorite part of the store was their terrain testing area! I wish every shoe store had this. Inclines, stairs, and 5 different footings. It's genius. My husband has worn their work boots for years and has recently turned my Dad on to their work line. Though he has been wearing their hunting boots for decades. And for those looking for an active boot a friend of mine has been raving about their hiking boots and shoes. Danner makes footwear. That's what we in Portland call shoes, boots, clogs, sandals, flipflops and probably some things that haven't been invented yet. But given that Portland is the footwear design capital of the world, they probably will be invented here. By the way, those shoes with toes - we did not invent those here, and they are sad. Danner has a large selection of their boot line on display and for sale here. They have the logger, work, hiking boots. The military boots - Danner is a major supplier. And some fashion boots. At regular price. And that price is well worth it for the selection, sizing and service! They also have seconds and sale items at extremely reasonable prices. I happened to find one such item at less than half price. And it was made in USA. Every staff member over several visits was extremely knowledgeable. "I need some waterproofing and reconditioning for my old boots. Which is better, mink oil or a beeswax product?" "You can't use animal-based reconditioner or sealants on GoreTex-lined boots, it will clog the pores. You can use a synthetic oil or a beeswax product." "Can this be resoled?" "We can't do that here now, because the stitches only go part way around. But they can be resoled and we will be trained here on how to do it here." They have a resoling, reconditioning and repairing facility right there, viewable through a glass partition. Not your average shoe store! The sales people adapt to your style and give you the time and space you need. I wouldn't shop at any place that did not. Ever. Don't rush thinking about how it is going to feel for your entire body weight to transfer mass through a fourth of the bones in your body, with associated ligaments, tendons and muscles, to the ground, over terrain, and movement, in critical to day-to-day situations, for years. But if you treat me the way I want to be treated, and give me the time to think about that, and similar questions in other shopping situations, I'll be back, for life, and I'll send my friends. While I was there, I was chatting with a fellow customer. He was buying some new boots that had to be comfortable standing: "During the snow storm I was on an 18 hour shift. I was on my feet the whole time. I need some comfortable boots that can hold up." So the pros buy here. And they get stuff done in these boots. This location is convenient for visitors to Portland from the airport who have a rental car or who could take a very short taxi ride. And if you are visiting, and in the market for Danner footwear, much of which is actually made in USA; and this spot has the most stock in the world. Great boots, great products and history. Terrible service! Bought boots for my wife there ($210), but ended up with laces 2 different lengths (48" & 52"). Went back 3 days later to get a pair the same length. I asked the sales associate to bring out 2 pairs of boots so we could swap out for the matching pair. Her reply, "Well, we can't do that. The other pair would have messed up laces." Not the right answer. We went around and around. I went to the display shoe, brought it to the counter, and removed the lace. What do you know, a match! I took the pair of matching laces and left. I cannot deal with people behind the counter that can't problem solve. It's either lack of proper training, or fear of decision making. My young adult daughter goes through boots. She wears one pair of shoes every day-- usually Chelsea style boots, and she walks 10,000 steps around the block. Every day. She wears orthotics, and needs sturdy boots. After going through cheap boots in less than two months, and Doc Martins in about six months, we tried Danner. They were comfortable, and sturdy, and lasted 9 months before starting to wear out. She's not a complainer, so it took me another couple of months till I realized one of her boots was letting in enough water to soak her sock. Time to head back to the Danner store. Unfortunately, they were out of the Women's size 10 that she'd been wearing. We were a little crushed to hear that style had been discontinued. But the salesperson suggested we try the men's style instead. The 8.5 was too big, but the 8 was perfect. Awesome. And here's where the story turns from good to extraordinary. I showed the salesperson her old boot, which had a big split in the sole, hoping they might have a suggestion to fix it, so she'd have a backup pair. Instead, they looked up when we'd bought them, discovered it was (slightly) less than a year ago. AND GAVE US THE NEW BOOTS FOR FREE! Way above and beyond. Thank you Danner. As long as we can get the Chelsea style, we'll be loyal customers for life! read more

It's there core area store. More of a tourist stop then a shoe store. Getting someone to help you is a mission! They have separate sections for each boot category ie: work, hunting, duty, women... ect The best part is being able to watch them work on the boots through the bay window. Didn't end up buying anything since it took us 20 minutes just to try on the first pair my husband is on his feet a lot so we are pretty picky on our boots. This store is normally amazing. I got hooked on Danner when I was in the military and when I got out I was In construction and ranching. So I spend a lot of time picking my boots, have loved my Quarry's that I got at this location about 9 months ago and the pair before those lasted me 5 years, I even had an effortless exchange because they weren't leaking in the toes. It WAS a great store. Today I went in looking for an oil resistant soil with a composite toe for a new job. I won't be buying them here though. I'll buy danners somewhere else because they are amazing. However, the man helping me seemed to be irritated by every word that came out of my mouth. And when I told him I'm leaving because I'm being such an inconvenience to him he just said "okay that's fine, bye". I bought a pair of hiking boots from here probably a year and a half ago and they are great. They are very very comfortable, I wear them all day at work my only complaint is that they are supposed to have "danner dry" but my boots have never been very waterproof. When I went in the guy who helped me pick the boots out was very helpful showed me every option that would fit what i was looking for. I've been needing new laces for awhile but finally got around to do doing it today, I came all the way here because i was unsure what length I needed. The guy working told me exactly what size I needed and then have me two sets of laces for free from a big box of laces they had. Boots are great, customer service is even better 10/10 read more

I'm not sure what everyone else is talking about in terms of poor customer service-they we're all very polite and helpful when I asked after some boots. I didn't have to chase anyone down and it was easy enough to flag someone down when the original employee who helped me left to give me space to try on a few pairs and I needed a size up. Took in a pair of Danner Pronghorn hunters that had the toe leather failing. Practically new except for the cheap leather failing at the toe. Was told there was nothing they could do to either repair, replace etc. They said it looked like normal wear and was offered a box of box of boot tip paste. Quality, service, and warranty have declined since LaSalle purchased Danner. Guess I'll try Wesco, Whites, or even Nick's boots. Redwing in Oregon City has better service. read more

I bought a pair of Danner Wellington boots in August of 2019 and had discomfort with the left boot on the seam on the side of my foot. I returned them on 6/11/2020 seeking to get the seam flattened so that I could wear them. Danner took them back, gave me full credit and I purchased a different boot. The super salesperson also gave me a $24 gift card to be used for my next purchase, with no expiration date, for my need to return these boots. They were fantastic from start to finish. Overall excellent service, boots, and clothing selection. Two friends and I came in since we started a pre-apprenticeship program. We were excited about the selection and discounted section. Steven helped us out and provided excellent customer service. He is knowledgeable, down to earth, and really wanted to make sure we were all happy with our final purchase. So yeah, I tried several shoes, multiple times. I bought the Women's Quarry Black Alloy Toe (3 weeks ago) and Dovetail Maven pants. Quarry's are sturdy, have excellent ankle support, cushion, and use them for welding class (still getting used to heaviness of work boot). Great investment as I continue my tradeswomen path! Dovetail Maven's: heavier, sturdy but should have sized down as I'm constantly having to pull them up. I layer up and look forward to saving up for their Britt Utility pants which I hear are more popular). read more

I brought a pair of my work boots here to have them repaired in the recrafting store. I barely had to wait 1 minute for the awesome employees to look over the boots and immediately start fixing them. They told me because I had waited they were not going to charge me for the repair. And before I left they threw in a set of brand new laces. I'll definitely be coming back to this location for any and all boot repairs in the future. I've already told all my friends that they cannot find better service and selection for well made work boots. Very disappointed. I love Danner and me and my husband have amazing (or so we thought) boots. After spending ~$300 for a pair of Goretex lined boots at this store, first rainy day they were worn, they immediately filled with water. I brought them back here and they refused to replace them or even give a discount on a new pair. They say 100% waterproof-I do not spend that kind of money on boots for 1 season of hiking and occasional outdoor work for them to not do the one thing they said they should do. With the prices they charge they should stand behind the product. Buying local is great, but Danner will not be getting my business anymore.
