We were told by a friend that this was an amazing place...we were so excited! Tiniest little dining room! It was super short, like I could touch the ceiling short. Everything just felt tight, close together. We were basically conversing with the tables around us, that's how close the tables are. Service was decent - but pay attention to what's on your table. I had a dirty water glass (neon pink lipstick, which I never wear) and a dirty fork. The couple behind us also had dirty appetizer plates. It just makes me nervous that the little things are dirty...what about the big things?! We got water to drink and my husband finished his then asked for more but water without lemon. The waitress literally said she gave him regular water but she might have hit the lemonade button? I didn't have a lemon issue with water so things just seem inconsistent. Food was ok. Sunday sauce was very watery but flavorful. Lemon chicken was good, but carrots and risotto on the side were uncooked (nothing worse than crunchy rice!!). Bread to start was good. I don't know if we'll be back - lots of restaurants in the area and the dirty water glass and utensil gave me the ick. If we do go back, I'll keep my eyes on what we get. read more

Heard about a new Italian restaurant in Mentor. Always looking for a good place to eat near home. All the reviews so far were great. So we made a reservation and went tonight. When we arrived at what looks like it started life as someone's home, we wondered what we would find inside. The first thing we couldn't help but notice as soon as we entered, into the foyer of the house, was the door opened "in" rather than "out". Exactly what you would expect entering someone's home, but not a place of business. The fact that opening the door hit 2 people in the crowded room was clear indication we would all be in trouble trying to exit in an emergency. Once inside it quickly was obvious the very tiny dining room was overbooked. 12 of us stood in the tiny foyer, trying to stay out of each other's way, until someone decided to give up their table. We finally were seated at a very odd shaped table that just could not get out of everyone's way. It was impossible to negotiate the cramped room. Again, it would have been near impossible to get out in case of an emergency. Well, a very funny young woman arrived at our table and took our beverage order. She moved efficiently, with just the right amount of humor and brought some fun to the evening. We placed our food orders and settled into our conversation. The room was understandably noisy by virtue of its size but it was tolerable. 3 of our 4 meals showed up quickly. The 4th somehow got lost in the confusion. After alerting our server that was remedied quickly enough. I will tell you, I am very critical of red sauce, especially meat sauce, in restaurants. I rarely order it. But I had heard good things so I ordered it anyway. I was glad I did. A large plate of pasta, including a large meatball, sausage, and pork rib on top showed up. It was excellent, simply excellent. And it will probably make 2 more meals. My dinner partners all had the same experience. Very good food. We finished with a good cup of coffee, cannoli, and pistachio layer cake. Finally, much to my amazement, I received a bill for 2 people of only $68. There were things that did not go well for sure. But the service and the food were great. They are very new. Let's hope time will fix the missteps. I'd like to go back. read more

As a fellow restaurant owner (in a different town 30 minutes away, different food specialties), I know firsthand that in your first few months of business, how positive, or negative Reviews can make or break your reputation. It's also why I don't do the review, in either direction, after just one dining experience. So that is why I am thrilled to leave a very well-deserved positive review for Danny G's Ristorante & Patio at 7224 Center St in Mentor! I tend to be very fond of Owner/Chef owned Restaurants (especially versus Chains), as all aspects of the restaurant, to the quality and preparation of the food, to timely service, and Servers, is going to be most important to them. And family run businesses even more so, as is the case at Danny's G's. It is a very cozy/intimate, house-turned-restaurant space that has somewhat limited indoor seating of about 30 people (especially since due to their early popularity, I'm sure they could easily fill a much larger dining room). That said, when the weather allows it, they have a very nice, and reasonably sized outdoor seating area that at least doubles the size of the number of guests they can seat. Of course, what ultimately makes or breaks a restaurant is the food, and I was fortunate the first time I ate here was on Mother's Day where they had a one price Buffet featuring all their most popular entrees, all scratch-made Italian comfort food which I took the opportunity to at least try each of them. And my son and I agreed, we couldn't believe how good each and every entree was, which I think is rare for all of them to be as good as the other, to the point that I knew the next time I would go there for a sit-down dinner, it would be a tough decision to know which one to order (so I ordered the house signature item, which is Grandma G's Sunday Sauce, slow-simmered spaghetti with a meatball, pork rib, and Italian sausage, and it lived up to billing). I've since also had the Eggplant Parmigiana, meatballs, Caesar salad, all of which were equally excellent, and tasted the Limoncello Shrimp Paste, also very good. So among many Italian Restaurants in Mentor (including an also excellent one right there on Center Street), Danny's G's has already reached the Top 2 in my experience/opinion, and will be one of my "go-to's" when I'm wanting an excellent, homemade Italian Dinner. read more

I think I've found a new personal favorite, and it's only been open for seven weeks! We visited on a Friday night and were greeted immediately by a server who I later learned is one of the owners. The service was top-notch from start to finish; that first impression really set the tone for the evening. Drinks & Starters I started with a Manhattan that was mixed perfectly--the high-quality cherries were a delicious touch. For appetizers, the fresh bread served with olive oil and balsamic glaze was a standout. The glaze at the bottom really elevated the flavor profile. I also tried the Wedding Soup, which was incredibly well-balanced. Entrees For our main courses, we ordered the Limoncello Shrimp Pasta and the Friday night special, Chicken Piccata Rigatoni. Both dishes were served in generous portions and were absolutely packed with flavor. Dessert We finished the night with the Key Lime Pie Cannoli. Honestly, it was one of the best desserts I have ever had. Overall This place is amazing and has already made my list of top restaurants in the area. I'm excited to return and work my way through the rest of the menu--I know I'm in for a flavor explosion! read more

I feel like I am going against popular Opinion . On a scale of 1-10 , I think it is about a 7 . I ordered the lemon chicken . I think the sauce needs more of everything. More lemon , or maybe lemon zest , garlic etc ... just too bland ...needs more flavor ... Also tried the Eggplant Parmesan. . The eggplant was chewy and needed More cooking ... I should be able to slice through with a fork . I also thought the tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce was a little too acidic . I think they could do better especially Since there are a few Italian restaurants very nearby whose flavors need no more tweaking Prople who worked there seemed nice . read more

Had dinner at the new Danny G's in Mentor. Wow! Superb Italian food, great service and cozy ambiance. Our friends had the baked ziti and Sunday sauce spaghetti. My husband and I shared the amazing thin crust pizza with sausage and mushroom. The wines were unique and wonderful as well. Rave reviews from all of us.
