I barely ever eat in the restaurant so I can't speak to friendliness of the wait staff in that way, but people are always friendly when I come in to pick up food! In fact, I think the owner (I assume Danny) has checked me out a few times and seems like down-to-earth friendly guy. Their breakfast burritos are super good (and huge!) as well as are their muffins. Live in Illinois, but tried this cafe for the first time today. My daughter and Son-in-law along with two grandchildren. We arrived about 10:00 and the place was slammed. The receptionist told us it would be about 20 minutes. Walked out to the car to let my spouse know. I turned around and they were calling my name for a seat. What a surprise, in by 10:05...I ordered the No. 2 house special. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Spicy sausage is the best I have ever tasted. Super generous portions on my plate. Biscuits and gravy was outstanding. My grandson ordered Hash and eggs with a side of hashbrowns. I swear there must have been a pound of potatoes and at least that much hash. My granddaughter had chocolate chip pancakes and I swear they were about 10 inches around. My daughter and son-in-law had omlets. There must have been four eggs on those things. Heard from friends to check out this place. Went for breakfast during the week. I enjoyed the food and selection. Nice to still have the diners out there. Got a skillet and it was really good. My family and I are from Iowa, and when we were driving down the road looking for bfast. We saw this small cafe and turned into the parking lot and it was packed. We walked in and got seated right away. Our waitress also came right away. We dont remember her name but she had red hair and she was an older women. She was amazing, so sweet, such a hard worker, and gave us excellent service. We had some questions about the menu and she didnt hesitate about anything, she knew everything about the menu like the back of her hand. We ordered our food and within 15-20 min our homemade food was ready. Some of the food we got was pancakes, eggs benedict, skillet, and corn beef hash sausage. All we could say was WOW... and then before we knew it our plates were cleared. Everything had so much flavor, and everything was fresh. Even the hash browns were cut potatoes, sliced, and cooked. Nothing was frozen and you can tell! OVERALL WE LOVED THIS PLACE!!! Between 4 people and having 7 plates it was about 45 dollars which is very cheap compared to Iowa diners. Was given a gift certificate so decided to try it out. Went for a 6:30 breakfast, wasn't busy. Waitress was rude. Soda was flat. Coffee was mediocre. My husband asked her about meat in the gravy for biscuits and gravy. She said it was good. Saw one piece of sausage in a three biscuit and gravy plate. Ham and cheese omelette is a joke. Sliced ham, half a slice of cheese on top, no cheese in the omelette. Hash browns cold and soggy. Toast just thrown on top, had to place toast on a napkin for room. Absolutely awful place. Walking in I felt over whelmed by the massive amount of signs, after reading ten of them I stopped because they became more annoying than cute. Maybe to some its kitschy cute, but to me it just looks like unnecessary clutter. Today I just went with my husband, a rare treat for us since we have two kids and I work full time. The lady who greeted us took our drink orders and ran off, any time I was about to ask a question she would interrupt me and start again rattling off what they have to offer. Here is the problem with the drinks unless your drinking coffee you might as well ask for water with lemon and make lemonade because the "large" cup is child size, and priced so high you might as well go to a grocery store and buy a gallon of milk. $2.49 for soda, $2.29 for milk in less than 8 ounce glasses, my husband got one refill on his soda but they gave me a look of disgust when I asked for a refill. That is when I asked for water and it was received with attitude. My husband ordered the country fried steak with eggs and toast, for $9.99 It arrived in a portion that I could have split with him. The cook on the chicken steak was actually good, the gravy was obviously out of a can and so lacked all flavor but it was cooked properly. His eggs were sunny side up and also cooked properly but he barely touched them or the toast for he was full off the chicken steak. For the price and the amount I guess its reasonable, but if you cut the portion in half with better quality ingredients I probably would still consider it reasonable. I ordered corned beef hash with sunny side up eggs for $7.99. It arrived just as I expect and tasted just as I expected. Eggs were perfect and the hash was also canned but finding someone who does it by scratch is rare so I don't expect it from greasy spoon restaurants. Over all the price is higher than reasonable for what I received, I walked out feeling like for 1/4th of the price I should have stayed home and make it there but I was starving. Total for two having breakfast $24.01 I didn't even bother to look at the kids menu prices because honestly I don't think I would return to have a family meal at this establishment. read more

Their skillet offering is good, but Frank's Garbage Plate nudges it down a notch! The menu states the biscuits and gravy are a customer favorite, it's not one of mine. My mom tried to go in and eat yesterday at 12:25 and when she walked in she was told they "we flipped the close sign around." My Mom said "oh ok." And turned around to walk out. She then noticed on the door it states at 12:30 they will stop cooking. So she asked about the sign on the door. The lady working said "well I flipped it around." And my mom said "ok. But it's 12:25 and your sign says 12:30?" And they lady said "well if you must eat then sit down I guess." At that point my mom was Absolutely in shock by the way she was spoken to and left. Three more costumers behind my mom also asked the same thing and were also turned away. I get it... it was 5 minutes. But 5 minutes is 5 minutes. Don't have a closing time posted if you're not going to follow it. Have one that says "we reserve the right to close whenever we want." Guess they don't care about business. It's too bad. Good diner option on the west side of keno. It has a rustic small town mom and pop vibe with enough signage on the walls to keep you reading all morning. The food options are surprisingly wide ranging; it has all the regular stuff but also throws in tacos & quesadillas, I liked the variety. Portions were large given the price and it came out quick. If I lived closer I could see being a regular here, seems like the kind of place you would go to before work to read the paper and get a good cup of coffee. Every time I drive by they are always full. I was not sure when I checked the Yelp page before I went to this Cafe. OMG what great food, and lots of it. Most things on the menu are under $10.00. The food is good, the staff is friendly. the restaurant is a bit bigger inside than it looks outside. It can get a bit noise, lots of people. If you are looking for frills look someplace else. Classic diner food... Nothing special about it at all. Coffee is tasteless and old, corn beef hash was decent but a bit salty for my taste. Pancakes and toast are what you'd expect from store bought bread and pancake mix. The atmosphere was quaint and eclectic. Servers are very friendly and welcoming. The food came to the table very quickly which was nice but also raises questions regarding "pre-preparation". Over all I wouldn't reccomend it but I wouldn't tell you not to go. read more

I have eaten here a lot in the past and it has really gone downhill. The prices have gone way up and to be honest the quality of food has gone down. I just ate here and I had ordered and omelette, which comes with your choice of hasbrowns or american fries AND your choice of toast or pancakes. I am not a fan of potatoes so I wanted just toast and pancakes rather than any potato. Instead they told me they can't substitute. I could understand if the item costed more, but come on, toast rather than potatoes. So I got charged extra for the toast. Give me a break! I will never eat here again, and I hope you don't either!! I go here all the time with my mom and brother. I absolutely love it. It is probably the best breakfast place I've been to so far. Their cinnamon rolls are great and I love their pancakes. Wasn't very impressed. The cinnamon rolls are more icing then anything and pretty dry. This is not the place to come if you want to visit with family/friends and eat. Shortly after we were done eating they asked us to leave because they said they needed our table even though there were other empty tables around. So rude! I guess they are all about the $...the guy at the counter guessing he was the owner...took our payment and was more worried about bossing the waitresses around and being angry then anything. I wish I could give no stars. I was not able to eat food from this restaurant. At 12:30pm , I couldn't get served because they closed the kitchen down. The sign was clearly marked that 7 days a week that they close at 1:00pm. This is a breakfast/ lunch place. Nothing on the menu takes more than 10 minutes to make. It was also a Monday. Once again they wouldn't of had that stressful of a day like Sunday. I know restaurants shut the kitchen down a little early, but a half hour is ridiculous.
