I've drive by this old schoolhouse a million times, but never stopped in until today. I really enjoyed my first breakfast at Red School Cafe! There's lots of parking in the gravel lot; several cute planters ring the entrance and outdoor patio. The cafe has several counter seats and maybe 10 tables indoors (there's also a covered outdoor patio with additional seating in warmer months). This is a first-come-first-serve sort of place; when you come in, you wait in line until a table or counter seat opens up. All of the waitstaff was cheerful and helpful and came around with fresh coffee a few times. I had a veggie omelet with a berry cup and sourdough toast. The veggies were cooked nicely with just the right amount of browning and flavor. There were a lot of interesting specials (country meatloaf with eggs and potatoes, for example) and the coffee and ice team were super fresh. We'll be back! read more

Not sure that I have much to add being that I only stopped by in a desperate search for coffee. If this cafe isn't the epitome of small town life, I don't know what is. Legitimately a converted schoolhouse, you get the feel of that as all. As you walk in to the dining room. There is a nice covered porch area for outdoor seating. The waitress was kind and quickly grabbed me a coffee to go. For a diner coffee, I was actually impressed by the palatability and overall just grateful to get some caffeine in me! read more

Nice little restaurant in a historic building! We went on a Sunday afternoon and the weight staff was not attentive and it was not busy neither. My wife chose the biscuit with sausage and gravy. and found it to be OK. I was supposed to get scrambled on it and I got a fried egg instead. I got the number two combo which was two pancakes, bacon, and a choice of eggs which I went with scrambled and mine were scrambled as ordered.. I did enjoy the fact that they had blueberry, strawberry, and maple syrup for the cakes!. I did feel that the restaurant could've had some music playing in the background as well. read more

Have always loved Red School. We went yesterday, portions smaller, costs higher. Potatoes used to be one of favorite parts of breakfast, but they were raw n greasy. Not edible. Convenience fee added to check, even though paying with cash. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the experience my mother had at your establishment. She visited with my 1-year-old child, and during the meal, my son began choking on a cracker. My mother cried out for help and shouted, yet none of your staff offered assistance. They simply stood and stared, showing no concern whatsoever--not during the incident and not afterward. No one asked if they could help or even if the baby was okay. This lack of response during a life-threatening situation is unacceptable and deeply troubling. To make matters worse, the atmosphere felt discriminatory from the very beginning, which only added to the distress. The service was also slow and unkind, compounding an already negative experience. I urge you to take immediate action to address staff training, emergency response protocols, and customer care standards. Incidents like this should never happen. read more

Best kept secret (except for the locals) little breakfast joint in Kenosha. Good breakfast and country atmosphere. A little small when busy but a great place to meet a friend for Not a reasonable priced country diner anymore. Used to stop in here time to time for breakfast but not anymore. I ordered biscuits and gravy and my son ordered a omelette. B&G not that great (bland) and the omelette was ok. Charged us $7.50 for two coffees (no refill). Total bill was $32. We came here from a recommendation from a regular and we're glad we stopped by. Red School Cafe is on the border of Illinois/Wisconsin and it's in a historic school house. The entire time I ate here I kept imaging what it would be like if I attended school there. What i loved about it was the super friendly service. There were a ton of regulars and you could tell that the staff knew certain people by name and/or their orders. I loved that warm friendly vibe. The menu was very very simple. The food is good and they use high quality ingredients. But it is another southern WI place geared toward tourists but only friendly to locals. Expect to get passed over by staff while they have conversations with locals until you have to walk up to the bar to place an order (and get rude attitude to top it off). Love this little historic school house atmosphere and their food. Rhonda was our server and did a great job on timing and refilling coffee and was very friendly and helpful. We had the chalkboard with great corned beef hash, eggs, hash browns and a pancake and a special Blueberry Oreo Crunchy French toast. New owners have taken over a long time favorite. Amazingly they have been able to successfully make great better. A wider and more diverse menu provides a bevy of choices. I've been there 5 times since the transition and have never ordered the same thing twice. I met up with an old friend who wanted to try this place. Red School Cafe is comfort diner food at it's best. They have plenty of breakfast options varing from eggs and pancakes to custom skillets. Table or counter seating is yours to choose from when dining. The cafe is cozy and perfect for a warm breakfast on a cold winter day. We are back. My family stopped coming when the new owners took over because they put a big TV in a one room schoolhouse which completely took away from the ambiance. The staff ans service have always been excellent and I have two more grandchildren out of 10 that hadn't got to experience The RSC. I decided just to try again and was so happy to see the TV was off ( thanks Brittany) the food is great and the service is as always superior. They have a new pancake recipe that is amazing!!!
