I went here during a busy Thursday lunchtime. My friend and I were greeted quickly by our very kind and attentive server. She also had a sweet tattoo, so that was cool. Anyway, I usually get the Reuben here, which is fantastic, but thought I'd branch out and get the turkey club. It was really tasty and a huge sandwich. I'm glad I tried something new. We went into Danny's for lunch this week and found it to be a capable, quick-service lunch spot. The place was busy but the staff did a good job managing our group. The menu is bigger than I thought it would be. I ordered the New Yorker, consisting of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and slaw on rye. The sandwich itself tasted good, but the meat was a bit drier than I expected. The potato wedges as a side were solid as well. I had been meaning to try this place for a while after a friend told me how good it was. Months later, I decided to come for lunch. I heard that it's busy around noon, so my friend and I stopped by around 11:40 on a Friday. There were already tons of people eating in here and a few others waiting for food. We didn't wait long in line as there was only one person in front of us. I had to get me the Reuben! They've got three sizes: baby, regular, or jaw breaker. I got the baby Reuben which was the perfect size! At $10.50, it was a pretty good price. We waited maybe 5-7 minutes before we got our food. Yum! It's tasty! The meat was fresh and they place the 1000 island dressing on the side so you can slather it on there yourself. I was full! A guy told me he's gotten the jaw breaker before and had to share it. Good to know! My friend got onion rings which were huge and thick! A little over $3 didn't seem like a bad deal to me. The place is interesting. It looks like a diner. Black and white tiles, red cushions on the seats. There are plenty of tables to eat at if you decide to dine in. They've got some patio seating as well! Danny's deli is sort of hidden in the basement of a typical downtown office building (though they do have a separate below grade entry way) off Broad. In a nutshell, good food, decent prices, above average portions, brusque service, subterranean setting equals a good place to grab lunch/snack to take to nearby park or back to workplace. One sandwich ($11-14) was too much food for one but ok for 2 to share. The meats tasted great with just the right amount of moisture. The setting felt like a 50's school cafeteria with lots of signs about what "not to do" (don't lean on this, set items on that, etc.). I love, love, love Reuben. If I see Reuben sandwich on the menu, I will always order it. I read great review of this restaurant. This restaurant is a bit weird because if you enter from one side of the street, you enter into an office building. You will have to take an elevator to P1, walk through a door and turn right. There is no signage from that side of the street. It feels like walking into a jail in a basement. But if you enter from the other side of the street which is right next to the garage exit, you could walk into the restaurant right away. It is not a big restaurant. You could order carryout or dine in. The dining area has a 50's dining feel. We ordered a regular size (medium) Reuben sandwich with corned beef and pastrami for carryout. It came with a small pickle in a bag. The bread was pan fried nicely on both side with a crunch. It came with good portion of meat. I can't complain about the meat ratio. I wish it came with twice the amount of sauerkraut. Warning: this is a messy and greasy sandwich. Eat with caution :) However the people who work there are not the friendly bunch. I've been here once before with my boss. This time was to meet a coworker. My appointment was running late. The owner suggested I grab a table while I could - good advice. But keep your eye out because you might miss Danny's! It is in a downstairs location and isn't very conspicuous. I recommend the corned beef but I think anything one might try at Danny's should be superb. Sandwiches, soups, salads, and specials of all kinds. Availability of fountain and bottled sodas..a welcome mix of brands. Great breakfast foods in the morning; solid lunches in the afternoon. All ready for eat-in or carry out. Note of caution: this is one of the places where you occasionally smell like the food for the rest of the day due to somewhat dated ventilation in this basement bistro. I checked out this place last week when I took a half day. It was my only chance to try it, since they're only open during the week until 3 pm. I'll start out by saying that if you don't work downtown and can walk over to this place, it's a real pain in the ass to find parking. That's nothing against the deli, but it's fair warning to anyone wanting to scope this place out during the week. Like other reviewers have said, the restaurant has a Broad St address, but it actually faces out onto Front St. Once I got in there, it reminded me of some of the delis I'd been to in New York City. It was very busy with Columbus lunch break in full affect, but I had scoped out the menu ahead of time and knew I wanted the "baby" Reuben. The guy at the counter was brusque, but with how many orders and people coming in, he didn't have much time for bullshit. My order was out in about 5-10 minutes. This may be the smallest size Reuben they have, but it's still pretty bulky. Unless you're starving, this sandwich could definitely fill you up. And the corned beef? Phenomenal. That was some of the best corned beef I've had anywhere. The sauerkraut and Swiss, along with the delicious rye bread it was on, made for a great Reuben. You can get a side of Thousand Island with it, but it honestly didn't really need it. I'm not sure if I'll get back to Danny's again. Not because I didn't love my sandwich, but the logistics simply don't work out for me. If I worked downtown, I'm sure I'd be here all the time. While the decor could use a refresh and update the food and service are exactly what you need and expect at the busy deli. It does get very busy, all tables taken, can't really turn around busy. All the wait staff know this and they do a great job with the crowd but keep in mind that it will take a bit longer if you go in the middle of the rush about 11-1. The food here is good, solid and usually plenty to really fill you up. My recommendation for salad is either cranberry or Greek, add some chicken or gyro meat. Best sandwiches are the Reuben or Mary's Favorite. Their cookies are pretty good too, always fresh. If you get a drink, they are very good about keeping it full. I love Danny's Deli because they have wonderful sandwiches like their famous Corned Beef. When I go there, I always get the Mary's Favorite with roast beef, swiss cheese, and grilled onions on grilled rye bread; and their great onion rings and Diet Dr. Pepper. Mary's Favorite makes me happy. Their deli sandwiches are big as your hand and it takes 2 hands to eat the sandwich. They have wraps, burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, and serves breakfast until about 10:30 or 11 am. There always busy on St. Patrick's Day with their famous Corned Beef (pounds and pounds of it). It was tasty but it was small for price. I've had bigger Deli sandwiches for less money that tasted better (such as at Cataland Kuzina in Westerville). I highly recommend going there. For the small size sandwich that came with a deli pickle, it was $10.50. And that's all you get no fries or sides. I've been to places that for the same or less they give you a bigger sandwich and a side. I don't plan on going back for overpriced and undersized food portions. Danny's is a fairly large restaurant even though it's sort of hidden. It's got all matched tables and chairs and the tables all have condiments on them. The staff was very friendly even though it was my first visit. I ordered a Pastrami reuben. The pastrami was very good and there was plenty of it. The rye bread was good, although I believe it came from a grocery-store type loaf. It was served with a quarter pickle and a bottle of Russian dressing. I had to ask for another pickle and I know a lot of folks who would wear the waitress out getting a quarter of a pickle at a time. And oh, the pickles were Clausen-type pickles, not the kind that come out of the barrel. Parking was a bitch! I had to park over a block away and feed the meter. I'm sure the folks that have to walk to the deli only do so when the weather is good. Thus I knocked off a star because of the location. And they're only open until 3:00 pm so no dinner hours unfortunately. I think Danny's is more of a sandwich shop than a deli. No meat and cheese case, for example and no dessert case, no canned or bottle condiments, no bread case. I'd say their pastrami is on par with Katzinger's. And ditto for the bread. But the lack of free parking and their hours puts them a couple of notches down the pole. read more

I do not visit Danny's very often because it is a bit pricey. However, when I do visit I always buy the Hot Corned Beef sandwich ($9) due to its deliciousness! They offer a 'jawbreaker' version, which I have not tried since the regular size is big enough! The place offers both sit-down service and carryout - makes it very nice for choices! The sit-down service is usually really good even on crowded days. I have to admit that their fries are okay - not the biggest fan of them. I wish they were salted because after eating half the pack my palate gets bored with eating them. If you happen to be in the Capital Square area visiting the Statehouse or other local venues, I highly recommend Danny's Deli for a different kind of experience! 4/5 stars read more
