I'd only ever heard whispers of this place. Didn't even know where it was. Driving through a sleepy neighborhood and boom there it was. It reminds me of one of these places you find while you are on vacation. We had lunch this Friday out back overlooking the water. The view is fantastic. It wasn't really that busy as it had just opened. Our server was friendly and quick. The burgers and fries were good, I wouldn't say excellent, whatever is right below that. If you've never been, check it out. I'll eat here again and explore the menu more deeply. read more

A very comfortable lakeside neighborhood bar with good burgers, salads and appetizers as well as an array of other sandwiches. A good selection of draft beer as well as many bottled imports and crafts. We always make this a stop in the boat, and it is the least expensive of any of the Lakes bars. View was great!! So two of the five stars were given because the view was perfect. That was all that was perfect. Took about twenty minutes for a waitress to come over. The waitress suggested the mushroom Swiss burger which two people at our table ordered. Was mostly bun and canned mushrooms...would not order again. The dano punch was tasty. Great, and I mean great employees. Dano himself regularly greets customers and checks on their satisfaction. Lakeside is accurate as it is nestled on the Portage Lakes waterfront. Good drink selection, and great daily specials. The burgers are great, but the buns fall apart as soon as you pick them up. Warm weather is all about the patio and picnic tables. They do have an interior bar as well and they have flat screens everywhere. They also boast the best boat docks of all of the restaurants on PLX. Dano is the most involved owner I've ever encountered. The parking lot is cramped and situated on narrow or one way streets. Can be difficult to navigate on crowded days or after dark. When you get there, park with the intention to get out easily. You'll see what I mean when you get there. Definitely a great place on a nice day or to watch a game. read more

Great spot on the lake to stop for food and drink. Beautiful view of Turkeyfoot Lake. Staff is curtious, they even have staff to help you park your boat and food is good. I have had several menu items and have never been disappointed. As long as your expectations aren't too high. I will never come to the lake without stopping at Dano's at some point. read more

after seeing all the great reviews we decided to go to Dano's. first the good parts. The patio was awesome overlooking the lake. service was friendly and prompt. We did not order any drinks so no comment on them. The french fries were very good. But, The sandwiches were terrible. I had a $11 spicy burger that the hamburger was dry and gray colored. there was no indication that it was grilled or fried? When I picked up the burger the bun crumbled and broke apart. very unappetizing. My wife had the Dano's deli combo. It was about 6 very thin pieces of lunch meat with some cheese on a hamburger bun for $12. The bun was crumbly as well. Our expectations were high for Dano's but they did not deliver. I did ask for a manager but was told that Dan was not available. This a great venue to have a cold drink and sit by the lake but I would never order food. Very disappointed. read more

Wonderful service and such a nice atmosphere for dining on the lake. Didn't have to wait for anything - had drinks within seconds of sitting down and everything else followed. Great place on the water. We were a party of 4 came in at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. It's a seat yourself type and there was quite a bit of people but a lot of room for seating. Our waitress came right over and gave us recommendations for drinks and food. The specialty cocktails were very good! We all ordered a different type of sandwich. Chicken salad, tuna salad, pulled pork and chicken philly. The food came out pretty fast and the sandwiches were good size helpings. We got a couple sides of coleslaw that were served in sauce cups not big enough for a side. The French fries the sandwiches are served with are great! The place was clean and very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere for a lake bar. Chicken philly and burgers are good. Philly cheesteak is more of a roast beef sandwitch. Cheap Buns on 3 of our 4 sandwiches fell apart the last two times I was there. Has potential but kitchen needs some work. Plastic utensils and cups. read more
