What a fun candy shop. I had been here years ago as a child, and it was largely the same, but a few changes for the better. There are a ton of candies, fudges, and ice creams available. We had the marshmallow fudge, which was better than I expected. My wife had a mint chip cone, and my daughter had a jamoca cone. I tried both and they were really good. I also had a sample of the honey lavender ice cream, which blew my mind. Ice creams are made in house and it shows. Service was prompt, and prices are fair. It has an old soda fountain kind of vibe which is really good. We will definitely be back. read more

Dan's Minocqua Fudge is a MUST STOP when visiting Minocqua!! They have a great selection of chocolate, candy, and ice cream. The service has always been great and friendly when I have visited and their pricing is very competitive. It's also conveniently located in the heart of Minocqua and is a clean establishment. My absolute FAVORITE item to buy from Dan's is saltwater taffy. They have a HUGE selection of flavors with the most competitive price I've ever seen for saltwater taffy and the taffy is soft and chewy rather than break your teeth hard which is usually what I find at other candy stores. If you LOVE saltwater taffy, as I do, this is the place to get it. My family since I was 6 months old has gone up there by minocqua. We used to go to left to flambeau every single year. We stopped in and got your fudge. I miss the last 2 years so I am dying for some of your fudge. I've not been well. I very seriously know the struggles of addiction and withdrawal symptoms after trying the saltwater taffy. It is 2am and I snuck like a night goblin to the kitchen just to get some taffy. I added taffy as a separate column to my budget on excel. I also did the walk of shame at the farmers market when I got out of my car- I had to make two trips to the garbage because of my taffy wrappers. It only takes 4 minutes to get there. This is my absolute favorite candy/fudge shop! Every time I am in Minocqua, I always make sure to stop in. The staff are all very kind and remembered my family and I from a week prior. They will let you try a sample of fudge per person. The fudge is so delicious and the prices are very fair. They also have a variety of chocolate candies, sweet/sour candies, and taffy. I got the peanut butter fudge, which tastes an awful lot like a buckeye, and the marshmallow fudge. Both of them were amazing and tasted so good. We got ice cream as well, but beware that you cannot pay for the ice cream and fudge together, it must be paid for at two separate registers. Overall, I recommend this to anyone going or living in Minocqua. It is truly the BEST candy shop in town! Fudge: Quality & taste - 4 stars. Price - 3 stars (a bit expensive, but hey, they basically got a monopoly on fudge in this small resort town). Ice Cream: Quality & taste - 5 stars (it's Cedar Crest, the best brand made locally in Wisconsin). Price: $2 a single scoop = 2 stars (see next comment for explanation). Size: 1 star - this was the puniest serving I have ever gotten in the "Dairy" state of Wisconsin (I posted a picture - see for yourself). When I order a cone, I expect a decent serving of ice cream (translation: HUGE SCOOP!). Not here. Pay $2 and get a dollop. I suggest taking a short drive to Woodruff to visit the What's the Scoop ice cream shop where they know what a decent size scoop of ice cream looks like. Entertainment: 3 stars. You can stand outside the shop and watch the teenage workers make the fudge in big copper pots. Summary: I will go back for the fudge, but not the ice cream. Spotted this place while strolling thru downtown Minocqua. Picked up some fudge and a few hard candies before heading home. I will preface this by saying I'm not much of a fudge person. I purchased the fudge for my dad. But I did try some and wow it is amazing! Not too rich and very soft. Kinda melts in your mouth. The turtle one is super fantastic (and had some super cute tiny pecans). We also got the peanut butter fudge which has a chocolate layer on top. It's also very good but the turtle gets my #1 vote. Everything seemed a little pricey but that's common for handmade candies. As far as the fudge, the minimum allowed per flavor is 1/2 pound. We had sampled some fudge elsewhere that had good flavor but was dry and crumbly. Dan's is a far superior choice and I'll be back for sure. Best fudge I've had hands down! read more

The management is a joke. I have no intention of ever going back. Drove into minoqua for Memorial Day weekend, stopped in for chocolate. Bought three boxes when I got home and realized what I ordered was not what I ordered. Called the store the lady I talked to said she would ship me the correct order - the owner then got on the phone and preceded to tell me that I was scamming him, he couldn't verify that I purchased anything (even though I have my receipt in hand). This place is as good as it gets! Their prices are very reasonable, so there isn't an excuses not to buy a sample selection of everything. The fudge is sweet, of course, but not grainy. Each mouthful is smooth and addicting. I've been to Dan's many times. The line is sometimes out the door, but worth the wait (though the wait is fairly short & the line moves fast). While you wait, you get to watch (and smell) the fudge being made or taffy being pulled. Great on the phone service. They get your fudge order out the next day and I've always received my orders within 2 days. Dan's offer an old fashioned candy area with huge candy jars or baskets where you can buy any flavor of taffy or hard candy. Their ice cream shop is to die for. Just wonderful! This place is sooo quaint. Everyone who is vacationing up north, should stop by this reasonably priced and yummy place. Highly recommended! read more

A Chocolate lovers paradise! Just setting foot in this store puts 10 pounds on your frame. As you open the door the smell of butter slaps you in the face. Imagine a 10 gallon tub of butter slowly simmering all day long right under your nose. That will give you an idea of how this place smells. Freshly made fudge and caramel is prepared all day long by the employees in large copper pots near the front. It's really fun to watch them mix everything together and dump it into sheet pans before your eyes. I enjoyed the peanut butter fudge but fell in love with the dark chocolate bear paws which consisted of pecans, caramel, and a layer of dark chocolate fudge on top. MMMMMM everything was amazing. Come on people; it's fudge, ice cream, taffy, etc. It doesn't get any better than this! It has that old time 50's feel and they make the fudge in front of you, which is so fun to watch. I live up here so I only allow myself to go about twice a year because they sell stuff that's bad for you but man, is it good! It's definitely worth a stop if you are on the main "boardwalk" of downtown Minocqua. Now be aware that it is always chaos inside in the Summer months (busy season up here) and if I get through to just one person, this will be worth it. "LEAVE YOUR STROLLERS OUTSIDE OF THE SHOP!" There are always a thousand people waiting to get their fudge and tripping and being rammed by a stroller just adds to the chaos. Send one person in with your order and leave the ramming vehicles out of the chaos that is literally a candy shop filled with wall to wall people. But don't be turned off by my review. Elbow your way in and get your fudge. I promise you will not regret it! We come by Minocqua every year on vacation and decided to bring the kids in for a "get any candy you want" trip. Unless you love chocolate and/or taffy, you are pretty much SOL. While I can't comment on the quality of the taffy, as it all tastes like hell to me, the chocolate was good. A lot of the nut mixes were a bit too salty, but good nonetheless. The fudge was a lot better than expected as I am typically not a big fan. The employees there however were awful. The kid manning the taffy stand could not have been more bored and made sure we could see it on him. He barely spoke and moved at a snails pace. Really felt like we were just bothering him by being there. His coworker over in the chocolates section was a good step below, kinda surprised he didn't just tell us to f-off from his attitude before we even turn around and said hello. Ahhhhh, heaven in a little cardboard box. You heard me. Whether it's maple, or maple nut; chocolate or chocolate nut, et cetera, et cetera, the fudge at Dan's is to die for. (I shudder to say that in even a "figure-ative" sense.) But it truly is divine. Dan's has been on the main drag for decades and it is amazing to say that the quality of their product is as good now as it was then. The fudge is always fresh: yep, you guessed it. It is called fast turnover. You might also be tempted by their caramels, salt water taffy, ice cream, and candy confections as well, but for my $, and for the time spent working out after consumption, the fudge is IT! Keep in mind, if you are planning on packing some up for those you left behind at home, the parking can be jammed and you may have to wait a bit, but the staff is friendly and considering all the people wandering around in a sugar induced stupor inside, they do a great job in getting orders prepared fast and correct. For those of you who consumed your fudge on the drive home, have no fear. Part of the season they will ship it to you: in bulk! My best advice: savor it and eat it really slow! read more

It is Awful. You cannot make bad caramel better by salting it. I know that there is a really big push for "salted caramel" stuff, but maybe you should try cream and butter and brown sugar? This whole obsession with Sea Salt is way stupid anyway. ALL salt comes from the sea. Last week or 250 million years ago, it does not matter. I love this place. Firstly, the fudge is great. I think the prices are very reasonable ($12 or $13 a pound). I've seen fudge as high as $16-$18 a pound when I visited the Dells. The bear claws are very good, though a bit pricier. The ice cream is also amazing and inexpensive. It's $2.50 a scoop. Over the last two vacations I've taken to Minocqua (over the summers of 2016 and 2017) I've gotten the ice cream probably 5 times. Every time, the scoops have been huge. There is a $10 minimum for using card but I don't think that's too much a big deal. There is a 1/2 pound minimum cut for fudge, but they do have a section of smaller pieces of some of their fudges that were left over from each slab. So be sure to look for that on the counter if you don't want a 1/2 pound or more. read more

Dan's has been a fixture for us during our annual week in the Minocqua area. However, they've become a disappointment. They no longer stock any sugar-free chocolates, whereas they previously had several shelves of these treats available. Their fudge, although good, is nothing particularly special - in fact, Cathy Bosacki's chocolate shop north of town on Hwy 51 has fudge that gives Dan's a run for their money - AND she still creates sugar-free confections. read more

Obviously don't know what they are talking about. My all time favorite thing is marshmallow. I am gluten free and have been for a while. They told me the marshmallow fudge is not gluten free. I asked if it was the marshmallows that make it not gluten free and they said yes. I told her that marshmallows are gluten free and she shrugged her shoulders at me. I bought the fudge and it turned out amazing. Just a heads up all your fudge is gluten free. On the bright side, the store was amazing. looked very nice and the ice cream looked delicious. definitely would come back read more
