A cute and quaint spot nestled in the town of Rhinelander. I loved the essence of the space and the staff was polite. I tried the Chef Kris burger and opted for the Garlic Roasted Potatoes. The subtlety of the tomato jam and dill aioli really elevated the burger for me. The ingredients were high quality and the flavors were delightful. In my opinion, the prices were high for the area. I have paid comparable prices for a similar, if not larger, burger in Minneapolis. Note: They offer gluten free bread as a substitute for the bun which we appreciated. read more

We had a really great lunch at this cool location in Rhinelander recently. I had the cheeseburger which was organic grass fed meat and the bread was extremely fresh and tasty. Another family member had the organic quinoa bowl with black beans, corn, fresh roasted vegetables and cilantro lime sauce. This was absolutely exceptional and so tasty. All the items that are served are sourced locally (even the Wine) and they do their best to offer healthy options for the gluten-free and dairy free patrons. Wine is by the bottle so enjoy. Tilly's in Rhinelander -- Fantastic Food, Understaffed for the Experience They're Selling I walked into Tilly's genuinely excited. The menu was full of locally sourced, brunch-forward dishes that felt both thoughtful and indulgent. Exactly the kind of hip breakfast spot I gravitate toward. The place was packed, buzzing with energy, and we were told it'd be about a 45-minute wait. Fair enough. When the food came, it looked incredible. Corn and buckwheat pancakes, chia pudding, a beautifully made omelet. But there were no utensils on the table, none delivered with the food, and none at the self-serve station either. We literally sat there staring at our food until someone brought us a set. From there, a few more issues popped up. One of my wife's eggs ended up on my plate, my café au lait was missing the milk, and my potatoes never arrived. That's when it hit me. This isn't just a café. This is à la carte brunch at premium prices, but the setup doesn't match the ambition. There were no table numbers. No food runner. No real service flow. Plates were being run by whoever was available in the moment, with staff clearly rotating roles on the fly to keep things moving. From what I could tell, there were just four people working. One barista, one cashier, one person cooking, and one person bussing. No expediter. No front-of-house lead. No bussing station. The team was clearly dedicated and doing their best, but they were visibly stretched, and the structure just wasn't there to support the level of service that the prices suggest. With this level of volume and demand, it's clear the current setup is running as lean as possible. But at a certain point, staffing a premium food operation with a skeleton crew starts to hamper the overall customer experience. With around 35 to 40 people seated and room for at least 50, most brunch spots would have at least double the staff and a system in place to coordinate it all. Tilly's feels caught between being a hip café and a true brunch destination, and it hasn't been fully staffed or streamlined to succeed as either one. Still, the food was fantastic. The staff was warm and trying hard. If they can build a system to match their ambition, they've got something special on their hands. The heart and flavor are already there. Now they just need the support to carry it. read more

Nice lil spot in town. Friendly service, clean and good selection. I was out with my baby and needed a coffee! We sat for a little bit, (high chairs are available) in a booth which was great so he could move around and I could block him in. Ordered a seasonal fruit bowl and a large dirty chai with whipped cream. I only got one shot of espresso but should've got two! Wasn't strong enough for me. Whipped cream tasted like the good stuff- made in house. The chai was lovely. The fruit was delicious and made my baby happy. Cafe wasn't too busy and the staff was very friendly, offering to grab a high chair if I wanted it. There was no loud music playing which was nice but it wasn't awkwardly quiet, could hear people talking and even my child's baby talk didn't seem out of place. This was a wonderful stop, while traveling. Lovely, peaceful, yet upbeat atmosphere. Food was excellent. Avocado toast on GF bread is to die for! Seasonal Salad fresh and delicious. My husband - typically a chicken nuggets guy - enjoyed his ham & cheese on seeded bread. His remarks "delicious!" Cappuccino and a strawberry lemonade were both winners. Clean and fresh cafe. I have had the cheeseburger here and it was excellent. Simple burger but top notch ingredients. The salad was dressed perfectly with a dressing that was nothing short of spectacular. The portabella that my girlfriend ordered was perfectly prepared. This is one of the best places in town to get a real coffee. What a great find! I'm in Rhinelander for work and was hungry for something that wasn't fast food. A quick look on Yelp brought me to Tilly's. It's a stylish corner bistro/coffee shop right downtown. Their Covid-19 restrictions were still in place (THANK YOU!!!) meaning masks were required before seating and plexiglass was up between the counter. The menu was full of breakfast items on one side and some lunch options on the back side. I decided to go with the Classic Breakfast for $12. Organic everything and great flavor throughout. My scrambled eggs were done perfectly. The rosemary potatoes were nice and crisp, and the organic bacon was delicious. Great 12-grain toast as well. I've got to admit that I was expecting Tilly's to be more of a greasy spoon style diner. It's far from... But it's definitely worth a repeat visit next time I'm hunting for Hodags! read more

We ate there about 11:30 am on Father's Day. You stand in line to place the order. They give you a cup of coffee, then to go to a counter to get cream and sugar, before you sit down. They were already out of corn pancakes and blueberry compote. So after you basically serve yourself and they ask you I'd you want to add a tip. They deserved a 5% tip but that was not offered, lowest amount was 15%.When the pancakes came, they had 1 sm slice of butter for each 3 pancake order. We asked for more butter and the waitress brought 1 slice, period You get a cup of coffee and I'd you want a refill you have to stand in line and ask for a second. The lemonade was yellow colored water with ice. They did give me a $3 credit because we did not drink it. The restaurant is decorated nicely but every you feel they are so cheap that you would rather not be there. We will not return. read more

My wife and I ate here while staying nearby in Rhinelander. What a gem in a city full of classic American food. The decor was perfect and the ambiance made for a wonderful Sunday morning breakfast. The coffee, tea, scones, and food were delicious, and the breakfast platter didn't come with the coating of grease I'm unfortunately accustomed to with American breakfast fair. For the food they had on the menu I would say it is over priced for what you were served. I have been wanting a place that serves food with gluten free options and serves grass fed beef,with drinks that don't have all kinds of sugar and who knows what else added to it. I moved to Brown st in July and passed Tilly's to get to where I park my car and always wondered what kind of place it was. We had a snow storm and my car was completely buried in snow and unfortunately I don't have a shovel and I saw a gentleman that was getting out of his car and asked if he had a phone and if he would be willing to allow me use his phone to call my Dad to get unburied My Dad didn't answer, so I asked the gentlemen if he happened to have a shovel I could use he said he did in his shop and he went to Tilly's and gave me a shovel to use. Nice to see that trust and generosity hasn't died. I was able to unbury my car and get to work. A few days later I was wanting something quick and something decent to eat so I decided to see what kind of food Tilly's offered and was pleased to find that they offer gluten free options and that they have grass fed beef. I tried their classic burger and it was good. A few days later I tried the chief Chris's burger, that was even better! However today I tried their grilled cheese with gluten free bread hands down the best soooooo good!!! The jam they use on there is delicious!!! Best grilled cheese I ever had!!! I also had the roasted garlic potatoes very good just need to ask for them lightly done otherwise they are to dry and seasoned this time they were perfect!!! I also got the apple cider, yummy!!!
