My mother got an invitation to a luncheon at this restaurant. I called to see what kind of oil they fry their food in. The very rude and not very bright person that answered the phone could not read the label of the oil container. It was obviously not a language issue. I asked b/c of an allergy. She even more rudely said that they do not serve customers with allergies. Since i don't think i even know a person on earth that doesn't have some type of allergy then I recommend that everyone on earth skip eating at dan's seafood & chicken. And, if dan's wants to have any take out business at all I suggest that they have a better trained person answer the phone. Customer service can make or break a small business. Great food. I love the egg rolls. They make the fried okra to order, and it's delicious. My daughter orders the chicken, it's the best around. They have seafood, but I don't eat seafood, so I can't speak on it, except to say it's popular. It's basically a drive thru. There area couple of tired tables, but it's not pretty. A bunch of the guys from work tend to go eat here every month or so. Do not let the run down crappy area and exterior of this place turn you away. The food is great! The portions are huge and scalding hot from the fryer, The staff works hard to make sure things go right. No one so far has been able to understand the older guy because of his thick accent but that's part of the charm of the place. The cooks are great and prices are reasonable. The fish and chicken is delicious Now the bad parts. It's a bit run down with very limited seating. Everything is fried mostly. Is the food always piping hot?...Yes! Are you going to eat and get full?...Yes! The biggest issue is the fact that the "catfish filets" are NOT catfish, they are indeed Swai. The two fish cook similarly so most people probably don't notice, but I did. The meat within Swai filets has a mushier texture when compared to a true Catfish filet. While Dan's seasons the fish nicely and its cooked fresh, it is not catfish filets that you're consuming. On the other hand, the nuggets ARE catfish so if you're wanting the true catfish taste go with those instead of filets. Just beware, on occasion they will taste of bleach. Feel free to order both and compare them, you'll see the very obvious difference. read more

I have been looking forward to trying this place since I read all the great reviews. Turned out it was closed the day I came, with a sign saying they would be open the next day. So I came back the next day. That said, I could give this place two stars, but I understand people have different taste that I do, so I will try and give the benefit of the doubt. Or it could have just been a bad price of fish that slipped through. Here is my beef- the breading is a coarse grind of cornmeal, and it's so thick, it's like armor plating. The fork I was provided was no match for that breading, the tines yielding to the point of snapping off. I had to pick it up ( not good during the COVID crisis) and break it in half, at which point I realized there was more breading than fish and the fish was so thin, I might as well have been eating deep fried breading. Moving on to the shrimp- they were fairly large and plump with a good flavor, but again that armor plating of cornmeal. ‍ As for the oysters- probably the worst I have tasted or seen- mostly black inside when I broke open the crust. The fries were crinkle cut- so frozen- but I like crinkle cut fries so no complaints there. The target and cocktail sauce were both very good. So who knows? Maybe a new cook after a long COVID shutdown, and he stunned his toe when making the cornmeal batter? I can't explain away the thinness of the fish. But a lot of folks just might like it that way. I'm afraid I just can't give this another try. But you might, and might find something totally different after reading this. Best wishes to them. Best fish in the DFW metro plex tell me I am lying and I will call you a liar. Found this place by accident too.

One of my favorite spots. Fried rice instead of fries is my go to. This is as good as fried food gets. The shrimp tastes like the ocean. Some of the staff has been there for years. So consistently perfect. If it was a fancy place, they could get $30 a plate. read more

I was craving fried seafood and picked this place solely on the Yelp reviews. First, let me tell you what none of the other reviews said. This place is a dump! (Sorry meant to type dive.) I was glad that I was packing some heat by looking at the clientele. I did have to stand in a good long line to get to the counter to order. An outdated menue on the counter said 2 sides came with entre but when I ordered they told me french fries only. Pay more if you want Okra. ( -1 star.) I was hungry and by recommendation of a self proclaimed loyal customer I opted for the Fried Oysters and Fried Shrimp combo with fires only. Sweet tea was very good and could send you into diabetic shock. (-1 Star, they charge $1 for refill.) Come on tea is cheap no need to charge for a refill. Shame on them. So after being nicked and dimed and no roll either my bill was $26. Now the oysters were awesome and perfectly cooked, the shrimp was average I have had better. Fries cooked just like I like them, just a hint undercooked for they are flimsy. I normally order whole catfish, but I wanted shrimp and oysters today. I ordered 1fillet,shrimp and oysters. The oysters and shrimp were really good, but that fillet not so much. I assumed I was getting a catfish fillet, but the taste and texture was waaaaaay off. Not sure what kind of fish it was, but it definitely wasn't catfish. Two words, tasty catfish. I have been working in the Fort Worth area for eight years, have driven past this place many times onto other places and have never once stopped. Until I saw the Yelp reviews. who knew? Tasty, tasty catfish and the two fillet combo is really big. Like other reviews, the fries and piece of white bread are nothing to remember, but the fish is another story. Flakey, salty, crisp at the edges and just plain good. Really good, I've been to a lot of these places and this ones up there. I went for lunch and as soon as I walked in I noticed the prices, they're really high for a chicken and fish spot. I got a shrimp and fish combo that comes with fries. She said drinks weren't included in any combo so that pushed it up even higher. Got the food after about 7 minutes and got some ranch, ketchup and tartar sauce. The fries were pretty good, the fish was really good and big but the fried shrimp was great and battered so well. You know they rarely change the oil, just probalyadd to the rancid grease. Service is barely. I mean they don't roll their eyes at you but you do feel they could care less about you coming back. WOWwwww!! I can't believe I'm the first Yelper to Yelp Dan's Seafood & Chicken. (BTW, I originally learned about this restaurant from my father who works within the area so... the credit goes to you Dad.) I can describe this place in four words. "Inexpensive Tasty Fried HappyTummy" (Whatever, HappyTummy is one word) For the health conscious out there; there are grilled options, but why have grilled when fried is where it's at. Seriously, I can get a huge container of fried (10 pcs) fish nuggets, popcorn chicken, a ton of fries and hushpuppies for around 12-14 bucks and this is usually plenty of food for about 4-5 meals. This time, I decided to get the single filet fish meal (big piece of cornmeal covered white fish, with fries and a piece of Texas toast - but not toasted). (see pictures attached) I think everything is made fresh (I'll have to remember to try to call an order in ahead in the future), so I had to wait about 8-10 minutes for the food to be ready. (...and it is so worth the wait) My goodness, the fish has such a great flavor (plus it's crunchy on the outside, flaky on the inside). The fries are OK (a little stale-ish / under salted for my taste, but decent) and the bread is... well white bread. Oh, and to make the meal even better, we decided to order the corn nuggets (basically fritters). Geez, these things are freakn' awesome too! Certainly a hidden gem that the locals in the neighborhood know all too well about (this place stays pretty steady when I visit) and should be on every local Yelpers bookmark to try. :D read more
