Dar 525 is down the street from my apartment. Over the past year or so, every time I have ordered, the staff screwed up the order somehow. I let it go because it did not seem like that big of a deal. Today I ordered a salad and a burger. I asked for the burger without cheese. The burger arrived with, you guessed it, cheese all over it. The salad was made with lettuce that looked like someone had already chewed it up for me. The entire salad was sad, the lettuce was soggy, as though everything had been sitting in a warm bowl over the weekend, but they served it anyway. The fattoush salad is supposed to have big, crispy romaine lettuce leaves, that are accompanied by big pieces of fried pita bread. When done correctly, it's amazing. This salad looked like it belonged in the food waste bin. The salad issue had happened before. The manager and I had a talk and he told me that the kitchen made a mistake and that it would not happen again. Well, it happened again. I returned the salad and asked for a refund. The staff said: 1. It's not our fault, its the kitchen's fault 2. What's wrong with the lettuce? 3. Sometimes we use a different lettuce when we don't have the right lettuce. What does that mean? 4. It's not my fault. 5. Go ahead and tell Addi (the manager) Basically, don't bother me with your food quality issues. Those are all wrong answers. The correct answer is, "I'm sorry that happened, let me fix it for you". I did not get a correct answer. I was given attitude. We had an argument about the food. The server was disrespectful and rude about the situation. Then, something ridiculous happened. I was reviewing the receipt, to make sure they did the refund correctly. After all, if you cannot get the order right, why would I assume the charges are correct. Then Emanuel, the staff person said to me, "dont roll your eyes at me". Buddy. I need reading glasses. It's dark in there. I'm not eye rolling, I'm squinting because I have old people disease and I didn't bring my reading glasses. Which is exactly what I said to Emanuel before leaving. I will not be ordering from here again. Treating regular customers like trash is not good for business. The bad food is one thing, but the bad attitude and refusal to accept responsibility for messing up an order, well, that is inexcusable. Every time I have ordered here, especially during the pandemic, I have tipped 25% because I felt it was the right thing to do, and I wanted to help them stay in business. After the way Emanuel and the bartender woman treated me, I will choose to spend my money elsewhere. You should too. EDIT: I spoke with the manager, Addi. I was very disappointed in his response. Addi was only interested in talking about his point of view. He insisted that I should have talked to him first before writing a 1-star review. I did not feel that he gave two squeaks about how Manny (Emanuel) treated me, with the exception of the eye-rolling part. He said he would "take care of it" on his end. I did not receive an apology or anything that resembled an apology. I walk by the restaurant every day with my dog. Addi ignores me now with an angry look about him. That is a shame, but whatever. I stand with my opinion that this a restaurant that lacks customer service and judgement. I recommend finding another place to eat. read more

In the short time I've been living in this neighborhood, this is the only place I've come back to. First time I went was during a weekday for lunch and my partner and I both had the falafel platter. Not only is it delicious but what a bargain! For 10 bucks you get a legitimate platter that you can barely finish and everything on the plate is a win. Went back for brunch and got the Mediterranean breakfast and it didn't let me down. The za'atar bread was delicious and the salad and eggs also A+. And again, SO MUCH FOOD. Even through the pandemic, this restaurant and its staff made me feel loved and connected to the food scene here in New York. We walked up and sat in the outdoor seating area, ordered 3 falafel wraps and a glass of wine, and we were so happy and full afterwards. The wraps were made to perfection, hot and freshly made. We ordered in from here a lot! This is a Greenpoint staple for mediterranean food. Their lentil soup can heal the soul, the Fatoush salad is excellent. When we need a clean, healthy but flavorful meal we order from here. Everything is very fresh and they deliver quickly. The ambiance inside is lovely too with beautiful Moroccan lamps. It is not a large place, very cozy and feels very authentic. If you decide to dine out, a great move is to walk off your meal by strolling over to Mcgorlick Park down the street. Dar 525 is a mecca for Mediterranean food! I live for their pita which is a puff ball of amazingness. Decided try out this Greenpoint location, one of two in Brooklyn for lunch and came out feeling more than satisfied. I ordered one of their six lunch special platters, the Kafta kebab, which had ground lamb and beef, pita bread, green salad, rice, and baba ganoush. All that food for $8! The ground lamb and beef were succulent with a medley of aromatic spices and full of flavors. Everything on the platter complements each other. The coolest part is the pita which is made fresh to order in their own. From any angle in the restaurant, you can see the oven. When I saw the pita, I didn't realize it would be a ball. It doesn't lose its puffiness until you poke a hole in it. Not only is it light and delicate but also a perfect accompaniment to the baba ganoush. The restaurant isn't particularly large so it's more for small groups. There windows blanket warm natural lighting to the dark woods of the space. The aforementioned oven is the main feature in the decor. Service is wonderful and the lady even gave a complementary dessert which I forget the name of but it was a pistachio cake with honey with a fragrant floral essence I surprisingly loved. Legitimately left my house not knowing where to go to eat with my friend. He's vegetarian and most of my food at home is meat. I also didn't feel like cooking today. Got in my car and he said that this was a hot, new place and it is basically down the block from me. Go in and the ambiance is nice and hipster. The entire place inside and out is rustic. It feels authentic because they play Middle Eastern music. Oh and for those of you looking for some drinks, happy hour is from 12-7. $5 beers and house wines. We order a pistachio personal pizza to share. That was absolutely fantastic. I don't know how it works but it does. It's crushed pistachios over a pizza. And not just a few pistachios. The entire pie was layered in pistachios. I got the DAR burger, which is a burger with feta cheese and some veggies. It was also super good. My friend got their falafel dish. He definitely liked it. For desert, we got basbousa which is like a coconut cake A bit dry for my tastes but it's actually good. I'm used to flan types of cakes drenched in milks. Finally, we got the Arabic coffee which is supposedly stronger than espresso. We will see about that! :) Highly suggest this place if you're in Greenpoint! read more

This place is the best. We've ordered delivery multiple times but dined in for the first time recently. The atmosphere is cool, casual, great for a quiet dinner with a date or group of friends. The food (as always) was outstanding, I suggest dining in for great recommendations and service. On a side note: my car got hit and destroyed on the street right outside of Dar and the owner helped us recover video of the wreck. I ate here twice in the week I stayed in Brooklyn. I tried the lamb plate the first time. It was tasty. The environment was welcoming and delightful. The second time was a different story. I walked into an oven- it must have been 100 degrees inside. I tried the chicken kabob plate this time. I did find the chicken to be a little on the dry side. I do not know if their lamb is better than their chicken and if serving lukewarm water is normal. Would I go back and try it? No. I did enjoy the first meal though. Home away from home! I stopped into Dar 525, for a late lunch during the opening weekend of it's second Brooklyn location. The Mediterranean-styled restaurant felt comfortable and cozy, decorated with hanging lamps and colorful pillows which aligned the back wall. The dining room feels intimate as it is filled with less than 10 tables and a traditional firing brick oven positioned behind the bar. The temperature dropped a bit this day, so for a starter, the chicken soup was the obvious choice for me. The chicken soup is served with freshly baked pita bread. The middle of the bread is filled with air and I couldn't help but smile when it arrived to the table and I was able to "pop" the middle of the fluffy pita, and watch the warm air flush out. For my entrée, I ordered the lamb kebob platter, which I highly recommend. The lamb was tender and tasted delicious. The platter is a good choice if you have a big appetite because it comes with pita bread, salad, rice, hummus and baba ganoush. I enjoyed the baba ganoush and recommend this dish on it's own as a first course to share with others. read more
