We heard good things about dar Poeta so decided to give it a try. First the good, the place was jumping most people were Italian and not tourists, the wait was 10 mins, and the people were very friendly. The neighborhood was cool, young hip Etc. The pizza imho was average to below average, crust seems to have cornmeal, sauce not bright, cheese hi fat style on cheap side. The service was zone defense, prepare to catch anyone, they are nice but are super busy. Fun place but not great food. read more

One of our favorites spots in Rome. Outstanding pizza with a great vibe and crowd. The usual late dinner crowd in Italy resulted in having to wait about 30 minutes for a table but it was well worth it. The individual pizzas were perfectly balanced and delicious. The crust is thin and on the crispy side but not overly so as to snap when you bite in to it. For me that's the hallmark of a great crust ... crisp enough so that you can hold it without it flopping down but soft enough to still have that great bread (baguette like) quality. read more

We had horrible service at Dar Poeta. We were so looking forward to our meal here because it had come so highly recommended. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. We had a little bit of a wait to be sat which we were okay with. However, once we ordered our food, it took over an hour and a half to get even the appetizers. Several tables beside us were sat, ordered their food, received and ate that food, paid and left, before we even got a salad. They gave us our wine to drink but we were so starving that we couldn't drink all of it before our meal. The food was good, but not worth the wait. read more

This is a great casual, no frills pizza eatery right in the heart of Trastevere. By all accounts a very busy spot, we went on a Saturday night, with a 25 minute wait but was well worth it. We were sat downstairs in the basement with a mix of locals and fellow sightseers, service was fast and friendly, staff had decent English. Pizza's hit the spot perfectly, previous night we ate in a fancy spot around the corner so we were in the mood for a no nonsense pizza feast. Full of flavour and base was a perfect mix of thin and crispy. Not talking gourmet levels of creationism here, but for the price you can't complain. The only minor complaint was the simplicity of the antipasti, for €9.50 it paled in comparison to other establishments nearby. I'd go for the Pizza, mains and cheap booze (Large Peroni's for €4.50) and be prepared to get basic sides, appetisers. Oh and chocolate mousse for dessert was great. read more

My wife and I ordered two pizzas and two beers and we had one of our favorite meals in Rome. The pizzas were very good, with a light, thin, crisp, and doughy crust. The toppings were excellent; I had the carbonara and my wife had the dar poeta. The carbonara was very heavy and filling, the dar poeta had a nice spicy bite to it. We washed everything down with two tall beers and the service was prompt and polite. I highly recommend getting a pizza here. read more

You absolutely must have pizza and bruschetta from this place. My recommendation is to get the bruschetta sampler which is arranged by the chefs and ALWAYS amazing (order "il poeta consiglia misto di bruschette per assaggiare piu gusti"). Not kidding when i say there were 6 different kinds and ALL phenomenal. I had an unbelievable pizza with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and arugula. I have no idea what oil they drizzle over the pizza but it's amazing. The locals seem to all go for the buffalo mozzarella pizza (just order "bufalo") which is AMAZING as well. While there, be sure to get so e Peroni (famous Italian beer) which goes well with pizza, and don't dare leave without having the nutella-filled calzone. Definitely a top notch pizza in Rome. Hard to find, but you won't see many Americans here. My only gripe is the service borders on rude. Keep in mind we are not your typical westerners, and I am not the type to throw a hissy fit like those prototypical °ugly americans.° So let me just say °They served me water in a broken glass.° That is correct, the water glass had a jagged edge along the rim....I could have cut my finger, it was that sharp. Probably because of the dim lighting in the restaurant, I did not even notice the problem until the end of the meal.... The owner offered me a free cappuchino for my troubles, and I was OK with that. However, if he had taken 50 percent off my bill (as would be the case with most restaurants in the US), my review would have been more generous, probably in the 5-star range. Best pizza I've tried in Rome! The staff is also super attentive and prompt, and the food arrives within 10-15 minutes even during peak dinner hours. There might be a wait during normal meal times, so plan accordingly (or better yet, show up earlier!). My favorite menu items are the Patataccio, mushroom calzone, Dar Poeta, and the Sarmonata. The ones I will probably not get again are the Superbufala and Parmigiana. I think the Superbufala would be fantastic if you're 100% positive that you like artichoke (I obviously overestimated my love for artichoke...), but the buffalo mozzarella topping was delicious. The Parmigiana tasted alright, but the moisture from the eggplant made the pizza very soggy. Also, don't order the suppli. The price listed on the menu is for a SINGLE suppli, so it's very overpriced. Tasted alright though. read more

The pizza here is the best my boyfriend and I had in Rome! We ended up comparing every pizza we ate in Italy to this place and nothing came close. I had the Dar Poeta (mozarrela, zucchini flowers, garlic, ham, hot pepper) and the boy had their Superformaggio pizza. The flavors were pretty good and the crust is really really, really good. It was deliciously thin, crispy and chewy! This is definitely the type of pizza I dream of and crave. Their carafe of house wine was pretty cheap too. We ended up getting there about 2:45pm so the place had almost emptied out, so I can't speak to the vibe when it's bustling. The waitresses were nice and cracked a few jokes with us as we stumbled to pronounce what we wanted. I have to say that these pizzas were not only incredibly delicious, but also very unique. The crust has this great doughy/light combination (I think it's cornmeal?) that I didn't even know I'd been searching for! I got a pizza with this amazing Buffalo mozzarella, fresh cherry tomatoes, and basil (picture attached, warning: drool-inducing). I literally can't even recall what my boyfriend had because it's all just a blur of pizza-induced happiness (how's that for romance). We saw another table get the Nutella calzone and it was HUGE and looked delicious but we were so full we just sorta stared at it longingly for a while and ate with our eyes instead. This place is such a hidden gem. It's tuck away in one of the many streets in Rome. We were looking for a spot to eat and we were Happy to discover this one. The ambiance is very cozy and welcoming. You are quickly greeted and seated with your choice to either eat inside or out (we chose outside). The waitress swiftly set up the table and took our drink order. There is such of a variety of pizzas to choose from. Each one sounded more mouth watering than the one before, in which made it difficult to pick just one. The Funghi pizza was delicious. Just the right balance of fresh cheese and sauce, with enough savory mushrooms. My sister selected one with fresh mozzarella with sweet cherries tomatoes and a bit of basil sprinkled on it. The mozzarella was so delicious that we ordered just the mozzarella by itself. If you are visiting Rome and looking for a good pizza. I highly recommend this place. I make it a point to try different places throughout my stay in Rome but this was one of the best I've had. After eating one of their pizzas makes it hard not to compare with any other pizza after. This is the best pizza I have ever had. This one pizzeria had an irrationally large influence on my decision to study abroad in Rome. Everyone who I have sent there has come back raving. The pizza continues to fill my dreams. If you look at the ratings, you will see that the people who speak English rate this much higher than the people who speak Italian. I think the Italians are probably from Napoli and don't want to tarnish their city's deserved reputation as the only real pizza mecca, or maybe they just don't like that Dar Poeta is hard to categorize, in that it is not thin enough to be Rome pizza but not thick or soft enough to be Napoli pizza. Whatever the reason, at least to foreigners, but I have some Italian friends who have been sold as well, this place is in a league of it's own, especially for Rome (although I have never been to Ai Marmi). If you really want a pizza trip though, go to Napoli. read more
