The best Napoletana style pizza I had in Rome! The city of Rome is not exactly known for their good pizza. Most of the restaurants only serve Roman dishes which includes mostly pastas. The few pizzas you usually find on the menus, are not exactly the best and they are catered to tourists. Dar Poeta is different because they specializes in pizza and calzones....and they are the best in the city! Another amazing thing about Dar Poeta is that they are open a little later than most restaurants, which makes it a great spot to stop by after a few cocktails. During my visit to Dar Peta, I had the pizza with prosciutto, cheese, and salami. My pizza was everything I could've asked for! The flavor of the meats, the cheese, the dough....everything was just perfect! My husband had a little of my pizza and agreed that it was so much better than his hahaha. I'll be back! read more

Dar Poeta is situated in the beautiful neighborhood of Trastevere opposite bank of the river Tiber and south of the Vatican. The prices are very reasonable, that get even more reasonable once you consider the location and the quality. Pizza may have been invented in Naples but different regions of Italy offer different versions of "local" pizza. In Rome you will find pizza in a few different ways: by the slice, roman style or naples style. Roman-style pizza is round, with a very thin-crust, and usually cooked in a wood-burning oven. These pizzas are topped with cheese or not, and/or with tomato or not. The other toppings vary but again, owing to the thin crust, the tradition is to have very few toppings. Compared to the Naples style where the dough is breadier, softer and has a slightly thicker crust, with edges that puff up. We ordered the Buffala Pizza which was topped with Buffala cheese, tomato and basil... just three ingredients and it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The cheese was so fresh along with the homemade tomato sauce topped with fresh basil... For dessert- we ordered the Pannacotta Caramello and it was perfect. The melth-in-your-mouth texture of the pannacotta with the thick layer of carmel in each bite was incredible. There's a ton of mozzarella liquid left on top of the pizza, and we figured it was either we got a piece of "extra juicy mozzarella", or the chef just didn't care about the presentation that day. Either way, we were too hungry to think so we ate it right away. The pizza was pretty to the eyes (except the spot of the milky cheese liquid). The crest was thin and chewy, the ingredients were fresh. My friend and I enjoyed the combination of fresh mozzarella, basil and tomatoes. When we stepped out of the shop. There was still a lot of ppl waiting in line. We couldn't tell why this place is SUPER popular to be honest. Yes, the pizza is reasonably price, enjoyably delicious and conveniently located. My husband and I shared the Amatriciana and Parmigiana pizza and both were incredibly delicious, I mean nothing in the States compares to the deliciousness we had at Dar Poeta! Straight out of the oven, not too much sauce, not too much cheese but you know when you have a fresh pizza and this was made from scratch! Our server was so sweet and friendly and even though this location was packed, we were seated pretty quickly and did not wait more than 10 minutes for our pizzas. Have you ever tasted a real, homemade, made to order, authentic pizza? You will probably never find a real pizza in the United States unless you travel to Italy and that is what we did. I found this amazing, family owned pizza place and all I can say that the pizza was HEAVEN. I will never eat another pizza in Los Angeles ever again because nothing can compare to the real thing. Acourse we ordered pizza and there must have been 50 different types. I did the mistake and ordered one that seem to be just tomato sauce and olives. Disappointed and the waitress wasn't much help either. This place was recommended by our AirBnB host because supposedly good taste and inexpensive. I would pay the extra and get better pizza. Dar Poeta is hands down the best pizza that I have personally had in Rome and possibly anywhere. My husband and I loved this place so much that we stopped here for dinner several nights during our stay in Rome. The location of this pizza haven is in the bustling Trilussa neighborhood - with delicious options and everywhere, one after another. Dar Poeta is on a slightly off street, accessibly mainly by foot or motorbike. The streets are narrow, making it impossible for a cab to get too close (we got off at a nearby bus stop and were able to walk easily). Each night we came here, huge wait. For some this may be a deterrent, for me, I want to know what all the fuss is about. It is worth it! We waited close to an hour each night and seated inside each time (although outdoor seating is available). Our favorite pizzas ended up being the Dar Poeta with sausage and zucchini (unique for us, but amazing flavor) and the Carbonara (very cheesy). We also tried the Super Bufala - equally good, slightly less cheesy. The pizza here is absolutely amazing, and the wait is well worth it. It's a must try when in Rome. read more

This is one of the best places I ate at while in Rome and some of the best pizza I've ever had. The service was wonderful, from the hostess to the waitress to the owner who helped out with things as it got busy. And this place is busy. I ate here around 6pm one day and around noon another and didn't have a problem getting a table either time, but the restaurant filled up really quickly for dinner. The tables are pretty close together so don't expect it to be super spacious unless you're 4+ people and have a whole section to yourself, but I didn't mind the intimacy. (Makes for a good time soaking in what's going on around you!) The bufala pizza was by far my favorite and was one of the ones recommended by the waitress. I also tried the prosciutto crudo and the amatriciana pizza another day and the prosciutto was unforgettable.... plus it was a HUGE plate of it. You'll need to share, or not if you're solo and are going all out. The amatriciana pizza was good but extra saucy, so I'd get another kind if you're not huge on sauce. I still dream about this place often... will 100% return when I'm back in Rome. read more

A word of advice: Arrive on the earlier side for dinner if you'd like to reduce your wait time. Or, just make this your lunch spot to eliminate the wait altogether. The bruschetta was great but honestly it's hard to find bad bruschetta in Italy because the tomatoes are so red and fresh. We stumbled upon this place in our cute little neighborhood in Rome, Italy. Almost everyone was getting pizza, but what caught my eye and what brought me here was the calzone. I had my mind made up that no matter how distracting the pizza might be, I'm going to stick to my guns and get a calzone and have pizza at all the other places. I found the will power to stick to my plan and got a ham and mushroom calzone and a half pitcher of house wine. I asked for some marinara sauce (I know that might be an American thing to do, but...) and the super friendly server obliged. I devoured my calzone and slowly took down the 50 cl of red wine and felt like a king. This place gets packed, but the service is fast and friendly. There a lots of people waiting for tables, so this isn't a place to sit and linger for hours. The servers were all ridiculously hot at the time I went, I don't know if that is typical, but I didn't notice that anywhere else that I ate. This place is worth crossing over the footbridge and water for. Google map it! Their service is fast and great. Be warned the Parma appetizer is huge! Don't let the cheap cost fool you into thinking it's small. The hummus and lemon bruschetta was exactly that; others has the traditional with tomato on top and it looked fresh and amazing- I'd get that. Be warned the margherita pizza is not the same as the states with basil and blobs of Mozzarella, it's actually just a plain cheese pizza. A delicious one but boring nonetheless.
