If I were lactose intolerant, I'd still come here for their soft serve ice cream and or milkshakes. They're that good. I was in town visiting family and this was our nightly adventure to get out and grab some ice cream. Expect lines and limited parking during peak hours. Tip - it's all peak hours. Everyone was friendly and patient waiting in line. It's Vermont, after all. Everyone knows that the ice cream will be there and that everyone gets a turn. Forget your diet! Buy the ice cream. This charming little spot serves ice cream and food. Both are delicious. We were in town for a week, but we stopped by three times for lunch or dessert. We never had a bad experience with the staff. They were always friendly and willing to help, even if they closed in two minutes. We had long lines each time, but they moved fairly quickly. This review is based on service for ice cream at the window. Went on a Tuesday afternoon and there were 3 people ahead and after 20 minutes, there were still 2 people ahead. The previous review was correct, if there is more than 1 person in line, don't bother. What made it worse, there were at least 2 employees inside just chatting away instead of helping with the line at the window. The menu is digital and annoying because it keeps changing every 15-20 seconds. So once you find what your interested in, it changes and you have to refocus your eyes when the page your trying to read comes back. The counter outside should be for ice cream only, with one person taking orders and the others just helping get ice cream and take it to the other pickup window. Unfortunately, since the place in Springfield Vt is not open again this year, this is one of the few places with soft serve. Unless your willing to wait 30 minutes to get a cone, don't bother. read more

Great service .. great ice cream in the hot summer months .. nice meals , they have specials like prime rib, on Wednesdays? I think.. and generally a fairly nice menu of say.. diner sort of meals , like hamburgers , fried fish meals , sandwiches .. and so on.. there are always a fair number of customers , but it's only open during the summer. I really recommend their ice cream. A blast from the past! The Dari Joy has been an institution in BF for many years. I love the mascot on top of the building which reminds me of a Bob's Big Boy, classic!! The Dari Joy is located close to the Arch Bridge to NH, where I've been working. I can see this place from North Walpole! This seasonal ice cream restaurant offers hard ice cream (around 30 flavors), soft serve ice cream treats, frozen yogurt, shakes, floats, and smoothies. Typical drive-in favorites include burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken, fried seafood baskets, fries, rings, pizza, and cold drinks (Pepsi products). The prices here are very reasonable, all items I saw were under $10 including the Seafood Platter ($8.50), a hamburger ($0.99) and kids meals served with fries and soda was $3.25-$3.95 plus tax. The place is order at the counter inside and at the outside takeout windows. The dining area has booth and counter seating with a jukebox and the restrooms are partially outside via a door in the dining area. On warm days working outside or riding through the area, I can get a flavor burst cone or a cold refreshing coffee shake and I'm a happy worker. The shakes are not too thick which is good for sipping through a straw and a small is only $2.13 with tax. I pay almost double for the same thing on the Seacoast. read more

Good god googies! Have been passing this joint for many years going to Walpole, NH never bothered to stop until June 4, when I saw a sign 'we now serve lobster rolls all season long'. Stopped in for lunch on way back, walked in & WOW what a throwback to the 60's including the luncheonette counter & stools. The place was full of families. Sat at counter & started to look at the posted menu items looking for the lobster roll. Another WOW moment the prices were also a throwback - Ham & Cheese sandwich $2.95, Double Bacon Cheeseburger $3.95, Hamburger or Hot Dog $1.50. I was blown away with the prices. I though that there were leading 1's missing - but no, those are the real prices. I was getting disheartened, didn't see the lobster roll on the menu. Within a minute or two a young lady stepped up to take my order. I asked do you have lobster rolls? Yes we do as she pointed to a little hand written sign right in front of me on the counter - "Lobster Roll - $13.95" One lobster roll. Mayo or clarified butter came the response. Mayo. What else? French Fries. Comes with it came the response. What else? Sprite. Will Mountain Dew do? No - water then. Within a couple of minutes my lobster roll arrives. The classic New England roll - on a toasted New England potato hot hog roll (sides trimmed), lots of fries. First bite - ooh yum, lobster, mayo, lettuce leaf on a bun - nothing more, nothing less & lots of lobster. That lobster roll would be a minimum of $20 - $25 in NYC Well worth stopping in for the rolls and a nostalgic trip back in time. It would be a real throwback if they had weekend muscle car shows in the parking lot. Oh by the way, the lobster roll was the most expensive item on the menu that I saw. Not sure why the ratings are so high for this place. Although, there are only a couple reviewers and appears most people get the ice cream. We went there for a quick dinner. Inexpensive fast food quality food that tastes like what you paid for. The fried clams were exactly like the frozen clam strips from the grocery store that you would make at home in the oven. Place has been there since the 50's, my mother in law used to go there as a teenager for ice cream. This was more of a nostalgic stop for us. After eating our so-so food, they had a major mix up on our total charge that took what seemed to be 30 minutes to correct and give me a refund. The manager agreed to refund $8 back to me. I was told the charges listed on the menu, which is posted outside on the wall, is not correct. This is not an acceptable practice. They either need to update the outside menu prices or honor those prices posted. In addition, there was a new employee who took my order. Having cash registers that calculate each item automatically for them would be best. One that lists the items ordered on the receipt with item totals next to each. It looked like they manually calculate the stuff on little hand calculators which is part of the problem. read more

The service is honestly not great, the employees spend half their time chatting in the back rather than actually preparing any food, and the portions they give here... Dear Lord! They are ATROCIOUSLY large. I suppose it's nice that people are getting their money's worth, but when I ask for a small, I mean a portion that would be recognizable by the general public as... well, not the 5-gallon bucket's worth they're giving out here. And while the food itself isn't terrible (their chicken is dry though, watch out for that) I would strongly recommend checking out other places before you stop at Dari Joy. read more

The look of this place is neat. Really colorful dining chairs and a walk up ice cream counter. Service left a lot to be desired. I placed my order which was chicken tenders and onion rings with a side of blue cheese. It didn't come back so the any blue cheese. But she was so quick to walk away so I walked up to the counter to ask for some. She never came back to ask how everything was going and she looked upset when I walked up to the counter without a check. But I was sitting there waiting for it. I asked for some non diary cookie dough ice cream to go and she looked like she seemed overwhelmed by the last minute order. I would've gladly asked for it for dessert had she come up to give me a check or ask if I would like anything else. I worked in fine dining so I always make sure to be as kind as possible to wait staff. I don't expect being catered to hand and foot while I'm at a local diner like this but it's like she was actively wanting to avoid me. I left feeling pretty crappy. read more

But the basics would seem the same: good food, decent prices, and friendly, local vibe. If you like soft ice cream, they do it well. If you'd opt for sandwiches like grilled chicken or hamburgers, they'll go down easily. If you want a meal, try the fried clams or fresh-caught haddock; both are very tasty. The prices are about as cheap as you can find even for small-town VT and NH, and the servers couldn't be more pleasant. You can order inside sitting down or use the outside take-out window.
