Its been an exceptionally great experience the past 2.5 years I've seen Dr. Behravan and his staff. Reading past reviews , some patients confuse their experience with their own insurance company and place the blame on him which is entirely not his fault at all. Office was rude, my paperwork was lost, Nobody would speak to me except that the doctor would not see me even after I spoke to him in person and he invited me to be his patient. Dr DARIEN BEHRAVAN The most rude office staff I've ever encountered. My procedure was not covered by my insurance so they told me it would be out-of-pocket $1500 when I went to the office to have the procedure done they looked at me like I was crazy when I handed my credit card. They said we only except Cash. The procedure did not help at all when I emailed the doctor to ask what exactly he did. He was insulted that I used his personal e mail address that he gave me to ask a question about the procedure . I've never heard a doctor use such foul language through the procedure . I was recommended to Dr. Behravan for slipped disc pain. My experience with Dr. Behravan's office has been pretty consistent- not respectful of patients time or compassion for patients conditions. On my first visit, I was on time and was greeted rudely by the front office staff. Then, I was made to wait for 38 mins before being put in the office to wait an additional 40 mins before being seen by the doctor. Sitting is hard for me given my injury so of course, this was very difficult to experience. For my phone appointment follow-up, the Doctor called over an hour after our appointment time. After leaving a message with the front office, I just didn't receive an appointment with the doctor. On the second in-person visit, I was on time and essentially tried to be as patient as possible with the front office and doctor. Still, I was made to wait over 35mins for my first and only injection procedure. Although the procedure room was wiped down after the last patient, we literally were booked back to back with no more than 10 mins between use on the table. My follow-up appointments have been essentially quick check-ins with his Assistant. This was pretty much the only appointments that seemed to be consistently on-time. However, upon calling to report increase in pain and discuss this with the Dr., the Medical Assistant and Office Manager were extremely rude and dismissive when asked questions about how to report change in conditions. The Office Manager basically told me that because I was reporting pain that was not covered by the insurance she wasn't obligated to do anything with the information. After reporting to me that she would take a message and hanging up in my face, I hoped to hear from the Doctor directly to discuss the situation I was reporting. Instead, I received no call from the doctor and less than two days later, I received a letter saying that the doctor could no longer serve as my physician. This is the service you can come to expect from this practice. They are rarely on time, they do not like to answer any questions and there is very little direct contact with the doctor after the initial exam and injection. Essentially, if you are looking for a doctor that will give you the pain meds. to numb away the pain, this is the doctor for you. However, if you are looking for a doctor to evaluate your injury and work with you to repair your injury, this is not the doctor for you. I read the reviews across the platforms and hoped to have the better experience. However, I just did not experience that with this practice and it's clear that the front office staff is one the major problems. read more

Do not go to this doctor if you are looking for compassion or a solution. I have had a severe pain in my thoracic spine for 6+ months and he told me it is psychosomatic (meaning only in my head) and after seeing me ONE TIME with NO PHYSICAL EXAM he told me there is nothing he can do for me and I should just keep taking my antidepressants. I have been on antidepressants for several months and they clearly aren't helping my pain because it is a musculoskeletal issue (I know this because it gets aggravated by certain movements). He was incredibly condescending to me and very rude. He also diagnosed me with several things and didn't even tell me, I only found out by sneaking a peak at my chart when nobody was in the room. You also have to wait months to even see him and his office is hectic. STAY AWAY! read more

I am on the opposite side; meaning I work together with Dr Behravan as a third party. I handle Insurance claims and refer to his office all the time. The patients that come from his office result in decreased pain. I know because I handle those claims. He calls me to talk about various concerns with the claims I handle; I agree that if you want sympathy and to be babied -- he is not your guy. He is candid, truthful, and I know that I can get an honest report from him. I had one claim and this man was in excruciating pain, barely able to walk. Dr Behravan handled it very well, and I can tell you that this man is back to bicycling and at full duty work... feeling "amazing." Yes, he will not take some patients; he is a primary physician, not secondary. Some patients may not know the difference and no, it does not take months to get in to see him. After being in debilitating low back pain for over 4 years I was referred to him for pain management. I had left and right lower back ablation and it was a game changer. I was referred to Dr. Behravan for an epidural steroid injection/nerve block for my low back and foot pain. I've been suffering for almost 40 years and just 24 hours after the injection, the pain is 90% gone. The only thing I will do different if I need to go back again is ask for general anesthesia before the procedure. I still don't know what was causing me so much pain but hopefully this nerve block will lead to answers for a permanent fix. Dr. Behravan is considered to be a great doctor but his office manager is very rude and disrespectful. I had an appointment on December 14, 2022 and they asked for a urine sample, which I'm happy to give because I have nothing to hide. However, when I was told about it as I checked in, I said I just used the restroom and I will try to give what I have. She said well we need one and I replied okay. Mind you I have given one many times before after seeing the NP. So, I was under the assumption that it was okay to do it this day. I went in the waiting area and was sitting waiting for a long time, so I kindly go to the window and ask "what's taking so long" because normally it's no wait. She rudely said we need a urine sample and you can't be seen without one. I said okay, I didn't know you wanted it immediately and said I have given it many times before after seeing the NP and she rudely said no, it must have been at another office, I politely said no it's been here because this is the only doctor that requires it. I said you appear to have an attitude issue today and she said I could say the same. I said I would like to talk to the doctor and she said he is with patients. So I continue to sit until I had to urinate and I did went back to the window and someone else was taking it, here she comes saying here, I said this other lady is helping me. So I went in and the NP was acting differently than my last visit. I explained to her about the office manager and she said "she is usually good" but she knows that woman is rude and unprofessional with patients. After I finished with the NP, I asked to see the Dr, of course they wouldn't let me. I even went to ask for his email address and they said we don't give it out. They did everything to block me from seeing/speaking to him. A couple days later, I get a letter stating he could no longer be my physician. The doctor and I always talk off the record, when I see him in the office , he even got on to the office staff about giving me an inappropriate cup once. I was diagnosed with a pinched nerve in my neck in March 2020. During physical therapy it was recommended that I seek treatment with a pain management doctor. I was referred to Dr.Behravan by a co-worker and am very grateful I contacted his office. Dr.Behravan is very knowledgeable, patient, understanding, and very sympathetic to the pain I'm experiencing. He recommended I see a surgeon to perform an anterior cervical disectomy and fusion. Following surgery I continued to have a lot of pain. Dr. Behravan was very thorough in his examination of my injury/pain. He really understands the severity of my pain and always recommends appropriate treatment. He recently performed a nerve ablation on the right side of my neck. During the procedure he made sure I was comfortable and was able to numb the area successfully without the use of anesthesia. A huge perk is this procedure was performed at his office location as he has a surgery/operating room on-site. His office followed up the day after my procedure to ensure there were no complications. I have another appointment with him next week to have a nerve ablation performed on the left side of my neck. I've seen other pain management doctors that spend very little time listening to my concerns/pain and typically just write a prescription and send me on my way. This is not the case with Dr.Behravan. He takes the time to understand my pain to provide an accurate diagnosis. He is truly committed to providing long term pain relief with real solutions. Dr.Behravan truly cares about his patients and their well being. I feel a genuine partnership with Dr.Behravan as I understand my role in performing my daily physical therapy exercises to build strength in my upper body since most of my pain is in my neck and shoulders. I wrote a review over a year ago, but I removed it after receiving an intimidating response from the doctor. I'm writing again this time in hopes of helping people who may be in a similar boat as I was. I was referred to Dr. Behravan by Dr. Joseph Cheng after I had sudden and debilitating back and leg pain, and even when steroids made me able to walk again I had significant loss of function in my left leg. Dr. Behravan was dismissive of my situation. I eventually switched to Stanford Orthopedic (I wish I had done this MUCH sooner), and my herniated disc was immediately identified, diagnosed, and operated on. The results have been life changing, but unfortunately because I waited so long to get better care I may never fully recover all of my leg function. So I don't understand some of these 1-star ratings. I feel so fortunate that my annoying HMO process landed me in the hands of Dr. B. He's been one of the most intuitive and caring doctors that I've ever seen. I think people mistake his intelligence and expertise for rudeness. While he is a little sassy, I think it's a good thing - it adds character - it makes him human and relatable. Since I've been under his care, I have gotten nothing but great referrals, advice, and treatment. His staff has been super helpful and responsive - not sure how people have anything but nice things to say about the ladies in the front. Ok, I get that some people complain about the wait. The first time I came to Dr. Behravan, I waited quite a bit too. But the staff let me know that sometimes on procedure days, wait times can be a bit long. I won't dock points for that. read more

I had a great experience With Dr. Behravan. I was referred to him to have a discogram and was apprehensive about having the procedure. He spent at least 15 mins with me before the procedure going over the particulars of what he was going to do and what to expect before, during, and after. I was put at ease by his caring demeanor and the procedure went smoothly. Afterwards, he went over the results with me and gave me a detailed report to take back with me to the referring surgeon. This is, by far, the worst medical experience I have ever had. I was a patient of Dr. Behraven's for several years. He runs a pain management clinic in an office which looks like it hasn't been decorated since the 70's. I have had to wait for up to three hours to see someone, even though I had a scheduled appointment. Dr. Behraven seems to think it's okay to see you initially, get you set up, and then pass you off to one of his PA's. I wouldn't know what he looked like if I ran into him on the street; it's been years since I've actually seen him. His PA's are little more than prescription writers. They don't listen to your pain level problems and won't go talk to him to adjust your medication. I was actually dressed down for saying one swear word which wasn't even that strong, by a woman younger than my daughter. She is no longer with the office, which is a real benefit. His office staff is rude and incompetent. They seem unable to make any decisions without talking to someone "higher up" and can't even keep appointments straight. When I left the office, I needed to have my records faxed to my new doctor, and they were less than helpful in getting that accomplished. The office manager basically told me that it was nice knowing me and to get lost when I transferred. The behavior of the staff - including the PA's - is unacceptable and unprofessional. I think that Dr. Behraven really needs to take a close look at his office and staff to see what can be done to streamline things, get some competent and polite people in there, and perhaps not worry about how much money he can make by cramming people on his schedule. It would be nice for future and current patients to go to an office which is inviting, well-run, and actually have access to the actual doctor instead of a bunch of drones. I am not one to write reviews because let's face it they come only when you're upset and we have a tendency to not leave reviews when we are actually happy but I have to say my experience with this doctor was definitely the worst! I had to push off my appt a month after my initial one. I rescheduled and wrote down 2 pm as she was saying it on the phone. Turns out my appt was actually for 1 pm and they could not help me except to make an appt for the following day at 1:45 pm. So great, I'll chalk it up to my bad and now I have to take extra time off work. I get there the next day. Didn't wait long, honestly. Was seen maybe 15/20 minutes after check in, not bad! It's a PA that's helping me who was very sweet and listening to my explanation of pain unlike the other staff at this establishment that are pretty much the worst! While the PA is taking down notes I noticed "No cell phones, no video" etc. thought that was odd. I've never seen that in a doctors office before. Anyways, while she is filling things out and does an exam on my neck and shoulder when she returns back to the desk the Doctor comes charging in like a bull in a china shop. He starts degrading her and circling things on a piece of paper my other doctor wrote telling her she needs to "read, read, see what he says here, read! This is very simple she has a crushed c4 or c5" he goes on about some other crap and then starts speaking loudly at me about what's my percentage of pain from 100% I told him 80% shoulder 20% neck well he didn't like that answer and corrected me by saying "No, your neck and shoulder are 100% what's your percentage of pain?" I'm confused and nervous cause this dude is yelling at me so I say again "I just said 80% shoulder 20% neck" he says "Yeah, that's what I said" then goes back to his PA. He starts rambling off some medications and tells her to prescribe me Topamax because it helps people to lose weight. I have no idea what topamax is so I go and fill it at the pharmacy. I do a consult just like any new medication and they say "this is for your seizures" I tell them I don't have seizures??? They asked what's going on and why would the doctor prescribe this medication if you don't have seizures? I said he told his PA it was some type of nerve blocker. Pharmacist tells me that's not on their off side list of medication to treat nerve damage. So I'm all confused. I researched the medication and it's side affects are weight loss due to a metallic taste in people's mouths that causes them to stop eating. Also, memory loss. Lots and lots and lots of memory loss. My Mother works in the medical field and told me to not take it. So here I am still in pain, clueless on what the hell happened and the guy comes in like a bull in a china shop, yells at his people over microphones (no wonder they're so miserable) and doesn't meet and greet his patients. He actually lectured his PA and said walking out in a stern tone "You're not out of here today until we go over you checking in new patients. You don't leave until I talk to you" whoa, buddy, think you might wanna save that conversation away from your "new patients?" I'm glad he has helped others but I'm sure Behravan and I will both be happy to not see one another again in the future. read more

So originally I wrote a great review about this doctor and clinic after my 2nd appt but decided to remove it. Initially, in July 2016 Dr. Behravan found a quick answer to my pain with the medical branch block which gave me 3 weeks of relief...what a blessing as I had experienced about 4 yrs of ongoing pain. I just found out July 2017 that Dr. Behravan did not ACTUALLY provided me with the radiofrequency procedure he was supposed to perform in Sept 2016, instead he gave me a facet steroid injection which lasted only 1 month and never reached 100% of pain relief. Now, this came after I certified a letter to him about his unprofessional office staff and manager. It appears he didn't like that I complained to him about them, then gave me some BS injection and decided he no longer wanted me as a patient Oct 2016. The fact that I, the patient wasn't aware that I didn't receive the proper approved procedure and my fate was in this doctor's hands is VERY scary....who knows what else he could have done to me? Thinking back, Dr. Behravan did me a favor by no longer keeping me as a patient because I don't have to wonder about the proper care nor do have to deal with his staff. If the office staff and manager are dysfunctional, rude and unprofessional, that speaks volumes about the doctor as they are a reflection of him. Worst doctor and staff you will ever meet. Average wait time is over an hour. Longest I waited was 3.5 hours. Don't come here if you have a choice you will definitely regret it!!! The nurse practitioner and the doctor are the worst. Darrien the dr is rude condescending arrogant and much more. I was on workers comp and had really bad back pain especially after the surgery not too long ago. The nurse practitioner told me she couldn't put me off work and told me to take personal time or vacation. Seems like she really wasn't trying to help me get better. Again DONT COME HERE!!!!! A forum of one-star and five-star reviews...now isn't that curious. Also interesting how quickly new "5-star" reviews surface after a less-than-stellar review is posted. Very suspicious! A reputable doctor wouldn't engage in the shameful practice of inflating his own ratings, much less be concerned with his image on the interwebs. I'm not insisting that's the case here, but geez. Spraking of which, I made the mistake of selecting this physician carelessly from the interwebs rather than through a legitimate referral.  He's by no means unintelligent, but lacks any discernible bedside manner and is the most contentious individual I've met in the medical profession. No surprise then that he's a lousy doctor; he does not appear to have practical approaches to nor interest in exploring patients' conditions that he can't immediately solve and is quick to push prescription meds. Being asked "what is your pain on a scale of 1 to 10" each visit not only is cliche but pointless.  In all fairness, my case was fairly complicated, but when my pain wasn't being resolved, he tried to convince me that I had a psychological problem.  In my case, he was correct, but ONLY from the sense that I should have run for the hills rather than subject myself to periodic abuse through continued office visitations, which is why I'm giving an extra star.  He even asked questions about my relationship with my parents of all things...given how apparently bitter he is, perhaps he should ask himself that one. He's also obsessed with money and tends to exhibit a "victim" complex. I paid him (not the clinic) rates for procedures on amounts that he set as I didn't have insurance at the time, and then proceeded to complain that I wasn't paying much of anything, even though I gave well in excess of $1000 for services rendered.  The procedures performed were akin to nerve blocks, and I learned that contracted insurance would have paid the clinic a much lower rate anyway. He then advertised how much he typically gets paid for his procedures, as if I should give a bloody damn. Issues of office dysfunction and timeliness (or lack thereof) in this doctor seeing patients are already covered in other reviews and need not be repeated; any patient review stating that they were promptly seen should be regarded as highly suspect, unless this doctor accepts reservations that I'm not aware of. To supplement, he didn't show up to the office TWICE for scheduled appointments, his staff didn't advise ahead of time like a competent medical organization would, and I never received so much as an apology for driving in excess of 100 miles through major traffic arteries for nothing. He once employed a sadistic blond-haired lady who was extremely condescending; for all I know, she was his girlfriend given the similarity in attitude.  A couple of personal items mysteriously disappeared when I was in the office as well. His unique practice of real-time dictation with a laptop is additionally distracting, but I suppose it saves time so he can cram more patients into his schedule. Ultimately, my problem was resolved by a knowledgeable doctor who demonstrated compassion for his patients. read more

I was a little shocked to see some of the lower reviews on here, as I just love Dr. Behravan! He really takes his time to understand my pain, takes detailed notes to make sure he fully documents my medical history, and always remembers me when I come back for my regular check-ups. I do agree that the wait can be long, which almost made me give him 4 stars, but it's truly been worth the wait. I think some of his patients may be disgruntled as he is a no nonsense kind of guy, and makes it known upfront that he does not handout prescriptions for pain pills. He apparently will gladly tell patients to go somewhere else if they are just there to try to get their drug-fix. Each time I see him, he always reminds me that he is a holistic doctor, and his goal with his patients is to try other treatments first. He expects his patients to follow his doctors orders before he will even think about prescribing some of the stronger pain medications that so many in our country are sadly addicted to now. Surprisingly this approach has been successful with me, and was a breath of fresh air compared to the last pain doctor I saw who only took five minutes to write me a prescription, and didn't seem to know or care about the damage the pain pills he prescribed were doing to my life. Dr. Behravan helped me get off pain pills, and guided me through a much less aggressive treatment, which includes yoga per his orders, that has worked miracles. My back feels better than it has in a very long time, and I am pleased to say that with Dr. Behravan's help I got off and have stayed off the pain pills. I started seeing Dr.Behravan originally for a hip problem which has led to surgery and for chronic migraine. He performs Botox on me every 3-4 months. I drove to see Dr Behravan from Marin and it was more than worth it. Starting with his staff they are very helpful and knowledgeable. I went in with migraines, after seeing a neurologist and no relief. Dr Behravan is very knowledgeable, passionate about helping his patients and found the solution to my migraines.
