    Temaki sushi

I loved my experience at Fleurs et Cadeaux. While you enter into what looks like a floral shop, what you encounter inside is a vibey dining room with a large wrap around bar as the center of it all. Our server was really nice, and went over the menu in great detail. We started dinner with a bottle of sake and made our way through some recs for the food order. We started with shishito peppers that had some sort of maple miso sauce that was delish. We also ordered the temaki sushi which was a huge platter of assorted sashimi that came with nori, rice and toppings to build your own hand rolls. I loved the activity of building each bite myself, and it also helped me to savor each kind of fish without rushing through it. In a classic case of over-ordering, we also got Poulet nanban - a fried chicken with black garlic tartare sauce. Thank god the server suggested we do 3 pieces instead of the 5 it normally comes with, because we also god the Udon noodles with sesame and ground pork so that would have been way too much food. The noodles were awesome. Ultimately, this spot is great and it was bustling with good energy on a Friday night. One thing we wanted to order, but didn't, was the duck. They age it for 3 days in white miso and lightly char it, and since we were sitting at the bar we could see them preparing it and it looked divine. Would definitely go back!

This is a great restaurant. They keep a simple menu but the dishes I ordered were good. Had the duck and chirashi. Duck was a bit salty but otherwise grilled well. The duck quality was thinly cut so it wasn't tough but I suspect it could be if it was thicker cut. The sashimi was fresh and the rice was done well. Restaurant can be pretty busy. It's a trendy spot that looks like a speak easy restaurant.

Food was very mid for a place that has such high reviews across Yelp and Google Reviews, and charges at a higher rate than what I have seen in Montreal. We sat at the bar area where we could also see into the grill area. There was a cook making the duck breast and he looked very focused and professional. I would only recommend this restaurant if you're looking for an izakaya (good vibes for a conversation and drinks, not looking for great food).

Amazing local restaurant! Great izakaya with great service and awesome ambiance. The entrance was a little confusing and hidden away but we loved how it just really added to that hidden gem charm. Got the: - onsen tamago: $5 (9/10) poached egg x1 in dashi broth with truffle oil - albacore tataki: $19 (9.5/10) albacore in yuzu ponzu with wasabi chimichurri - poulet nanban: $16 (10/10) karage that is perfectly fried, not heavy batter at all, moist chicken, and the black garlic tartare sauce was wonderful, not too garlicky - canard vielli au miso blanc: $20 (8.5/10) white miso duck aged 3 days, lightly charred, good duck flavor and tender but could not taste the miso even though it was miso aged for 3 days. Also the duck was barely lukewarm when it got to our table. The crispiness of the char was a nice touch - papikra mazemen: $17 (7/10) ramen with roasted sweet pepper sauce, sautéed squash, egg yolk, and sweet paprika oil. A unique concept but was a bit oily and not well balanced TLDR: Excellent date spot or just to hang out with friends!

A hidden restaurant in a pink building that I thought was or is a florist boutique. We were seated inside and noticed the plentiful seating. We had a delicious chirashi bowl which came with seasoned sushi rice, negitoro, and 12 pieces of sashimi. The fish was fresh and the bowl was flavorful. The agedashi tofu came with mushrooms and a broth--a dish that screamed umami. This unassuming exterior was indeed surprising on the inside.

Loved everything about this place!!! The food- duck, chirashi, tofu, soba-Excellent. The drinks-amazing. The vibes-on point. But the best part of it was the service! I called the day of for a reservation and unfortunately they only had a 9:30pm available for the main dining area BUT the lady on the phone mentioned that they have a speakeasy downstairs that serves everything on the menu!!! As soon as we checked in, they led us downstairs and once we got in, our server was so kind. I loved how the entire speakeasy was set up and they even had a beer vending machine!!

Very unique japanese reataurant. There were some sushi and sashimis on the menu, but I opted to go with items I didn't usually see on typical Japanese menus. First off, I went through the wrong door, the side door instead of the front door. Not sure how I missed it. I saw the chinese words over the main door and didn't think that it was the right restaurant. The waitstaff was nice enough not to make me go through the front door again. My waitress was so warm and friendly. Went through some recommendations. I ended up getting the recommended grilled miso aged duck. I got the marinated veggies, and chicken karage. I topped it all of with creme caramel au matcha. The duck was so well executed. Perfectly charred with a thin black layer on the fat side of the duck. You can taste the smokiness from the char. The chef timestakingly grilling each duck in front of the bar crowd. The chicken karage was delicious. Juicy and full of flavor. The white dipping sauce was a good compliment. The highlight of the night had to be the dessert. I was very full after my 3 small plates and a drink, but was able to finish this pudding like dessert with ease. It was light and not too sweet. The match flavor did come through but did not overpower. The sweetened strawberries complemented the dessert well. Service was great my water was never empty for more than 10 seconds. I'd like to try their sashimi next time. Or tuna tataki. The chefs really take their time dressing each dish. Really enjoyed the experience and the food.

I had such a great solo meal at Restaurant Fleurs et Cadeaux a week or so ago when I was in Montreal on an impromptu solo trip. Restaurant Fleurs et Cadeaux is a Japanese restaurant, sake bar, and natural wine bar. The building from the outside doesn't necessarily look like you're about to enter into one of the coolest, vibe-iest restaurants ever. It's so cool inside - dark with great bar seating and amazing kitchen views. I had a reservation for 1 at the bar, which was a great place to sit for a solo meal (I sat next to someone else having a solo meal). I had their chirashi for dinner, which was really classic and fresh. Although I love a solo meal, I wish I'd been eating with some friends so I could try more of their food (everything on the menu looked amazing)! The chirashi was all I had room for (plus drinks), but I'd definitely love to go back and try more of their food. Their beverage program is outstanding - they had great options in every category! Because I wanted to try so much, I had one glass of wine, one sake (a French sake!!!), and a cocktail - all were great! The service at the bar was fantastic, too. Overall, just a great meal - one I'd be happy to repeat when I'm back in Montreal!

A trendy place with a cool take on Japanese sushi. There's not really any sushi on the menu but the dishes are still unique and delicious. The quality of fish was quite good and while the rice wasn't your traditional sticky rice it was also good. The fried chicken dish was one of our favorites. They were lacking an a la carte option for the visitor who just wants to try some maki sushi but would still recommend

Amazing French-Japanese fusion tucked away in Chinatown! We had heard great things and wanted to try it out on a whim. We were so happy with this decision! Came in as walk ins and luckily they had spots for us right away. We ordered a handful of dishes that all came out in fairly quick succession. The uni mousse was first and it was unique with amazing uni flavour and texture, served with shrimp crackers. Then the agedashi tofu - I wanted to drink the broth. The miso duck was delicious, cooked to perfection, and went so well with the grilled green onion. And then the chirashi bowl had perfect sushi rice and sashimi topped with elements like a shisho leaf and ikuri that elevated the bowl and added a great mix of flavours. Finished with the hojicha creme brulee which was fusion dessert perfection. Sake selection was great and the service was top notch! Definitely plan to come by for a visit if you're in town!

We tried Fleurs et cadeaux for date night and was seriously impressed! Located in Chinatown, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but the moment you step in, it is a completely different vibe than the rest of Chinatown. The decor is vintage yet trendy, upscale and inviting. The restaurant itself is not very big, so it has that dimly lit, intimate feel to it. The chef is Japanese, from Japan and the food was honestly top notch. We loved every dish we ordered and as well as the Asian inspired cocktails. They also have a very lovely selection of fun natural wines. We had the miso duck magret, chicken yakitori as well as the DIY handroll tower. The fish was so fresh and probably one of the best sushi I've had in Montréal as of recent. The minute we left the restaurant, we started telling all of our friends to make a reso there! Parking can be difficult in Chinatown but there is a small parking lot right beside the restaurant. I can't wait to return to Fleurs et cadeaux; it's perfect for date night, girls night or a double date! Would not recommend for a large party as there is limited seating. Overall: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Value: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Miso duck is great. I wanted the fried mochi and uni pasta but both were sold out. The tamago was really jus an poached egg. Fried chicken flavor was good but it came out cold .

Walked by this building so many times and never knew it's a restaurant! Made a reservation for Sunday night but didn't really need it, plenty of bar space. Hostess was also my bartender & waitress. She gave me a bunch of recommendations, and I ended up with the duck, karaage & gomae. Also started off with the Yune drink because I can't say no to yuzu. It turned out to be a yuzu flavored old fashioned, one of my fave drinks! There's also a sizeable sake collection which I couldn't partake this time. All 3 dishes I ordered were excellent - the duck was cooked perfectly with caramelized ion on the skin. The karaage was crispy outside and juicy inside. But the gomae really amazed me, it came with a light & flavorful dashi broth, the tomatoes were flame kissed so the skin was charred but inside was a burst of sweetness. It almost didn't need the sesame sauce. I thought the music volume was perfect too. Great experience!

Right about now I noticed that everyone around us was getting some warm bread with butter. I looked at the menu to try and see if that was something we needed to order as an app. I did not see it on the menu so I assume it's just given as your app while you wait for your dinner. I got the beef tartar as my main dish. You have the option of picking between a garden salad or fries to go with it. I went with the fries. They are served with some mayo, just like I like it. The beef chart was delicious. Portion are good. This might also be an option if you want to share an app. It comes in two sizes, I got the bigger one. For dessert, I picked a crème brûlée with a cheese platter . Crème brûlée comes with a lovely crust , which I honestly enjoyed quite a lot. It is a very thin layer of crème brûlée with a thicker than usual sugar crust. The cheese platter came with three very small piece some bread and a jam. I would believe to be blueberries. I was disappointed by the cheese platter not because the cheese were bad ones but just because it was a three bite done deal. I would've liked a bigger portion to share. Overall, very positive experience.

The owner, hostess and wait staff were so friendly and gracious, and this feels like an authentic neighborhood restaurant, not a tourist trap. If you're staying in old-Montreal, you can't go wrong with an intimate dinner here, either inside or outside on their outdoor sidewalk patio. Order Breakdown Starters: Ceviche ($16): Marinated scallops with ginger, sesame, and seaweed. A light, acidic, bright start to open up the palate. (This dish was delicate and texturally well-balanced, with a simple yet beautiful presentation.) Polpetta di Nonna Maria ($18): Two of grandma's veal meatballs simmered in tomato sauce with Parmigiano. Rich, savory, and perfect for dipping any table bread. (Classic Italian comfort food. The marinara was perfectly seasoned and the appropriately sized meatballs were soft and flavorful. The bread was warm and soft with a delicious crust, the perfect vehicle for the extra sauce.) Mains: Orrecchietti con Salsiccia e Rapini ($30): Classic short pasta paired with savory Italian sausage, bitter rapini greens, garlic, olive oil, and parmesan. Very traditional, rustic, and full of flavor. (The pasta and sausage and butter greens were cooked perfectly, and the greens provided the acid to offset the richness of the olive oil and sausage. Dusted with fresh Parmesan, the savory profile was near perfect.) Insalata di Tonno ($32): Seared fresh tuna over a bed of spinach with their house sesame dressing. Keeps things fresh and balanced alongside the rich pasta. (This was the standout dish, with delicate tuna slices laid out across a bed of fresh baby spinach, garnished with sweet and tart cherry tomatoes, with a savory sesame sauce drizzled over the top. The sauce was notable since it didn't overwhelm the flavor of the perfectly seared tuna.) Paired with fresh peach Bellini aperitif for my wife. I don't drink, and she drinks sparingly, but she kept mentioning how delicious it was. The dinner was rounded off with a delicious tiramisu presented in a glass dessert cup. Definitely try this place if you want an unpretentious local establishment with a focus on quality.

I looked at the listing for La Graine Brulee more than once and had to think about it. I finally went in. This place is indeed weird. However, it all turned out to be better than I thought. There are all these seating areas, with some on either side of the front door and then several on a circular bench radiating from the center and making for quite a few tables. That's where I sat. Take note that there is also a big wooden cube with a lot of graffiti on it. The service was pleasant. I ordered some hot tea and they made a vegetarian burrito for me at late hours. (There's no way in hell you'll find something with meat or poultry in here.) I'm glad I was able to eat something before turning in. The prices were acceptable for what I got and its location, between 2 and 3 blocks east of the city's main Metro station at Berri-UQAM. In looking around, there was a good cross-section of people. It's more about nearby UQAM (translation: students) than it is "Le Village," which is now mid-rise and high-rise condos ... and the cranes that go into making them. Tables with books and laptops were the norm which, in my mind, is a good thing. Either way, there wasn't anyone over 40 here as far as I could see. That said, I don't know how willing I'd be to go back, unless in the same situation, and I have to joke that I don't know if personae who are middle of the road, and right of that, would like it here. However, if you are cut from the same cloth as the ownership and the other patrons, meaning bohemian and "new age-y," then I would strongly recommend it. I'm talking tribe! I will rate it within that context since they are not looking to serve the "mom, apple pie, and Chevrolet" crowd. Also, being on Saint-Catherine Est might foretell its personality, since Est and Ouest along this major thoroughfare can be two different worlds. However, La Graine Brulee delivered on a (vegetarian) burrito and some hot tea that I needed before turning in and did it well.
