Triumph TR6 group meets second Saturday every month
    JD M.

I've been having breakfast here once a month with my TR6 friends for several months now. The staff always takes very good care of us and the breakfast is delicious. Not fancy food, but very solid American style. All the guys like it and many have said so. This past Tuesday I decided to drop in for lunch. They were having meatloaf as the special. It came with two sides. I choose salad and pinto beans. It was all good. I'll be back for it again.

I had seen someone suggest dining at Darren's American Grill on a local neighborhood site, so we decided to check it out. We came for an early dinner on Saturday night. It's a relaxed kind of place with a huge bar and even live entertainment sometimes. There was a sign when you entered that said seat yourself. We found a two top and sat ourselves down. A friendly older server came and welcomed us and took our drink order. She told us that live entertainment would be starting in about 40 minutes. A couple of diners that arrived a few minutes later moved tables from where they initially sat when they found out they'd be right in front of the entertainment. Hubby wanted chicken fried steak and I ordered chicken fried chicken, with the gravy on the side. We both wanted mashed potatoes and fried okra. The food was delivered quickly and it was very good! Part of my breading fell off the chicken so I took a bite of it without the chicken and it was quite salty. I didn't notice that when I ate it with the chicken. Everything had a great texture and it was served piping hot. I did notice that all the servers just pitched in when needed. We had things delivered and table check-in's by 3 different ladies. They were all very attentive and friendly. We asked for a to-go container that we could put our leftovers in. Plenty of food for another meal for both of us! A man started playing guitar and singing right as we were about to leave. We stayed for "Tequila Sunrise" , clapped when he finished and then left. Food was delicious, service was great and prices were fair. We'll definitely be back!

    A happy Darren's customer.

I ate here years ago with co-workers. Today we met with an ex-coworker that remembered Darren's American. It was a good meeting with good conversation and good food. Walking in, there is nothing that stands out. The restaurant was clean, replete with a modest bar. They'll serve breakfast until 2 P.M. It was time to order. My spouse and friend ordered the meatloaf. The serving was large. The review was good. The sides needed a little seasoning. The chef must be careful seasoning -- a little salt and pepper perked up the sides. I ordered a short stack of beer-battered hotcakes. Unless you're a devout pancake fan, two will be enough, especially if you order anything else. The takeaway is this: From our experience, don't go there if you are short on time. It wasn't a long wait, but we did wait. The portions are good, and the meatloaf size was impressive. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. You'll appreciate the bill. The total was very fair for what was served. I give the restaurant a solid 4. I will return. If you crave dishes ala Americana, Darren's will fulfill your desire.

Took grandson there to get a couple of rib-eyes and they were tough as nails. If they know their quality is poor why have it on the menu.

The parking lot was like what I remembered but inside was a different layout so I am not sure if it was the same spot. Anyway, prices were very reasonable! When the food came out, we could immediately see it passed the eye test--cheese drizzling, real meat, grilled bun. First bite was excellent--I could taste the grilled bun, the flavor of the burger and even the crisped grilled parts of the meat. All other bites, just the same. Had me audibly saying "yum". On top of that, they offered horchata to drink and it was delicious. The fries weren't only well seasoned but they also had an usual kick of heat. This will be my go-to burger spot when I'm in the Garland area. Thanks for being great and charging fairly!

Tonight I went and took my boyfriend for the first time and the girl behind the counter had the worst attitude ever. When asking questions about the menu she was very dry in her reply as if we were bothering her. There was a group that was already seated prior to us coming in. We had about 6 groups come in after and 3 others stayed as we did too. We ordered our food despite the attitude and sat down. Seating is tight but we didn't mind. We paid 3 something for our tea. While filling it up it ran out. When asked if there was more a snarky remark was no I'm not making anymore and proceeded to try and charge 3.60 something for one of the juices to refill. When asked for bbq it was $.50 and ranch was $1.25 for a 2oz cup. The attitude from the lady that is the face when we walk in wasn't needed and I don't think no matter how good the food was that I will be returning nor recommending anymore

This unassuming restaurant tucked in a corner of nondescript row of stores has stood the test of time. My first review of the place was in 2013. Here it is 13 years later then it is still going strong. I went for lunch with the family on a snow day. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. No numbers, they just remember who you are. I always get combo number 1 and add sweet potato fries. The prices are great and not much more than McDonalds but the difference in value is significant. The burgers are not thick but this time I noticed the double burger (#2) is just a couple of bucks more than the the single patty in #1. Note to self for next time. Although the patty is thin, the flavors work. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mustard. No ketchup, you add that yourself. The bun with sesame seeds always comes out piping hot. Sweet potato fries are crispy and not greasy. The combo comes with a drink for $10.99. That's a deal. I hope they stay in business another 13 years!

I ordered the turkey burger along with sweet potato fries. Unfortunately, I was brought regular fries instead, and neither the fries nor the burger really matched my personal taste preferences. That said, food is subjective, and what didn't work for me may be exactly what someone else enjoys. The service was okay overall, and one thing I did appreciate was seeing people genuinely interacting and talking with each other. In a world where everyone is often glued to their phones, it was nice to see a place that seemed to encourage conversation and connection. While my meal wasn't a favorite, I can understand why this place attracts a crowd. I'd still recommend giving it a try and deciding for yourself, especially if you're looking for a casual burger spot with a busy, social atmosphere.

You order at the counter and then wait for your food to be brought to you. The girl who took our order was very pleasant and helpful. I got the Irish nacho but I substituted onion strings for the french fries and she happily made the substitution. The burger was pretty thick and nicely char grilled. I love a good char. It was very good. My only complaint was that I like mine a little less well done cuz it might have been a little overcharred and a tad dry for my liking, but I think that could be rectified by just ordering it medium next time. The bun is toasted which I love. It comes with ranch dressing which was definitely made in-house and delicious (and I'm a ranch snob). It had lots of melted cheddar cheese and onion strings on it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband got the hatch green chili burger and he loved it tho he said his was a little overdone as well. The kids both got the classic burger which comes with two smash patties instead of the one thicker one and they said that theirs was good as well. I got the sweet potato waffle fries which were a little thinner than I'm used to but I actually preferred it that way cuz they weren't soggy and had a little crispiness to the edges. The drinks come in a plastic cup that you can take home with you which I love. So overall very good and pleasantly surprised first visit. Only complaints were that, again, the burgers were a little overcooked and I'll order medium next time and it was a little pricey... $70 for the four of us getting combos.
