We went to Darren's to try their hamburgers and they were great!!! Their Onion Rings were very good as well. The service was prompt and friendly. It has a neighborhood sports bar feel to it. While we were there we noticed their breakfast menu. Tried the next morning and had the same food and service experience. It's definitely going to be a go to place us now. read more

If you like fried everything, this is the place to eat!!!! We were a large group that had the private room, which was super hot, lacked AC. Burgers needed salt & pepper. CFS is ok. Fried jalapeños had way too much breading. Wish the chili cheese fries had been made with their regular thick FF's, but came with raw thin FF's, our least favorite item. Margaritas were weak and way too sweet. The beer was room temperature. Never got our waters or sodas refilled. Appetizer plates were dirty and chipped. Also we didn't get enough for each person to have one, so they brought paper plates, lol. Meh! read more

I've been having breakfast here once a month with my TR6 friends for several months now. The staff always takes very good care of us and the breakfast is delicious. Not fancy food, but very solid American style. All the guys like it and many have said so. This past Tuesday I decided to drop in for lunch. They were having meatloaf as the special. We love going to Darren's. We eat there for breakfast quite often. All of the waitpersons are attentive and friendly and the food is really good. Prices are reasonable and lots of times I pick up lunch or we eat lunch there. I have a friend who swears they have the best liver and onions in town. I like the ribeye steak. Everything is always cooked well. Also dining in is pleasant because it isn't noisy like many of the new restaurants. Good food and nice people. Go there. read more

I had seen someone suggest dining at Darren's American Grill on a local neighborhood site, so we decided to check it out. We came for an early dinner on Saturday night. It's a relaxed kind of place with a huge bar and even live entertainment sometimes. There was a sign when you entered that said seat yourself. We found a two top and sat ourselves down. A friendly older server came and welcomed us and took our drink order. She told us that live entertainment would be starting in about 40 minutes. A couple of diners that arrived a few minutes later moved tables from where they initially sat when they found out they'd be right in front of the entertainment. Hubby wanted chicken fried steak and I ordered chicken fried chicken, with the gravy on the side. We both wanted mashed potatoes and fried okra. The food was delivered quickly and it was very good! Part of my breading fell off the chicken so I took a bite of it without the chicken and it was quite salty. I didn't notice that when I ate it with the chicken. Everything had a great texture and it was served piping hot. I did notice that all the servers just pitched in when needed. We had things delivered and table check-in's by 3 different ladies. They were all very attentive and friendly. We asked for a to-go container that we could put our leftovers in. Plenty of food for another meal for both of us! A man started playing guitar and singing right as we were about to leave. We stayed for "Tequila Sunrise" , clapped when he finished and then left. I don't know if it's because I'm old school or not but the cooks in the kitchen (that I have seen) are not the typical cooks. There are well "seasoned" folks which to me is why the food AND service is always GREAT!!!!!! This is not my only review for Darren's either but I leave another review to show they are consistent!!!!! It's just a hole in the wall, old school diner style restaurant. Both my wife and I had their hamburgers. We both agreed the hamburgers were delicious and cooked exactly as ordered. Plenty of TV's around the room. Don't remember the gentleman's name who was singing and playing guitar but it was a pleasant surprise. Service was great, kept checking on us regularly. I ate here years ago with co-workers. Today we met with an ex-coworker that remembered Darren's American. It was a good meeting with good conversation and good food. Walking in, there is nothing that stands out. The restaurant was clean, replete with a modest bar. They'll serve breakfast until 2 P.M. It was time to order. My spouse and friend ordered the meatloaf. The serving was large. The review was good. The sides needed a little seasoning. The chef must be careful seasoning -- a little salt and pepper perked up the sides. I ordered a short stack of beer-battered hotcakes. Unless you're a devout pancake fan, two will be enough, especially if you order anything else. The takeaway is this: From our experience, don't go there if you are short on time. It wasn't a long wait, but we did wait. The portions are good, and the meatloaf size was impressive. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. You'll appreciate the bill. The total was very fair for what was served. I give the restaurant a solid 4. I will return. If you crave dishes ala Americana, Darren's will fulfill your desire. read more

Not in review of food, just FYI if you have a group. We needed seating for 25, knowing they have a meeting type room, thought this would be the place. I have never seen more than 4 tables full here. When I called, he had to think about it , didnt ask any further questions such as timing or anything just a hard NOPE. Thank You to the ONE waitress at IHOP, that handled all 25 people with no issues. read more

My husband and I went yesterday for Breakfast; all I can say is that it was amazing. He had a traditional breakfast with the most amazing bacon and I had a cheese omelet that had those amazing cheese pulls you see on the Food Channel. Yum Then we went for dinner, and OMG we had the special smoked beef rib roast...AMAZING...Perfectly cooked and the amount of smoke was delish....my husband had Okra which was hand breaded and fried. The local crowd was fun too. All in all was both experiences were awesome...we are going for lunch. I've heard the burgers are amazing. Everyone needs to give Darren's a try. read more

So hubby and I had breakfast at Darren's American grill for breakfast. Met a great guy named Lou who plays the piano there on the weekends. He also used to be a stunt guy for Walker Texas Ranger. We really enjoyed chatting with him and looking at the many photos that he had of his time in acting. Hubby had pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. The pancakes were light and fluffy. He enjoyed it. I had the veggie omelet with pork sausage, wheat toast and hash browns. It was really good. The prices are about what you would typically spend on breakfast. Staff was friendly. Worth trying it out especially on Saturday or Sunday morning when Lou is there playing. read more

My husband, his car club and I go to this venue once a month for breakfast. The food is always really good, and the service outstanding. Today we had a larger group that was not anticipated. Angela, our server, did an outstanding job of handling all the separate orders, bills, etc. I don't know how she did it but did a wonderful job as well as the kitchen staff!!! Thanks to all! Couldn't get waited on. Got seated, took 5 minutes to get a menu & water & after that, the waitress wouldn't even make eye contact. After 15 minutes we got up and left. It was probably 70% full, and where we were sitting, no one was around so she can't use being busy as an excuse. It's a shame as we were looking forward to dining here. I would like to start this review by saying I have been a bartender myself for 15 years. I am very well known in the industry. I am a kind and patient guest and bartender. I have cleaned literal human poop off the floors walls and toilets of my establishment and still never treated anyone the way Darren himself the owner of the establishment treated us last night. A friend of mine organized a dinner party of our closest friends. All adults. We like to drink. I have personally taken care of and tended to each and every single person at the party. No one is a difficult guest. We staggered in 2 by 2 and were all there about 10m before or after our reservation. There was live music. It was busy. It was abundantly clear to me that they were painfully understaffed but our waitress was still a Rockstar. When we placed our orders. I ordered a blackened chicken sandwich. I did not receive the sandwich I ordered. I received a blackened piece of fish. I mentioned it to our waitress and she abruptly informed me it was chicken and ran away. So I waited for her to come back and told her it was definitely fish. She snatched my plate from infront of me and didn't offer to let me keep my onion rings I was literally eating (and had asked for) while I waited for my food and the rest of the table was eating. A friend of mine ordered a prime rib . Cooked medium. The one he received was very well done so he sent it back. Darren proceeded to come out of the kitchen and into the dining room to publicly yell at my friend and tell him that it was medium. Darren mentioned he had to waste a piece of meat because he doesn't know how to cook a steak and all this nonsense. I asked our waitress if I could solve it and take that prime rib in lieu of remaking my sandwich that was also served incorrectly. I would prefer my meat medium as well but this was well done and flavorless. My teeth are dull from the immense amount of chewing I had to do to stomach half of this flavorless burnt prime rib. If it was the first piece of prime rib I had ever had I would never eat meat again. It was disgusting. As was Darren's attitude. 30 minutes after the original embaressment Darren decides to come out again and yell at my friend and kick him out. The first time he was supposed to be remaking my friends food. He did not. He came out and was a total a hole . It was uncalled for. When we received our bills I was charged full price for the prime rib. No discount was given anywhere at all. No apology. No nothing from management outside of the embaressing toddler fit he threw inside of his own restaurant. I confronted Darren. Who mind you is a much larger man than myself and we got into a verbal altercation that he almost turned physical. This man is easily a foot taller than me and a hundred pounds heavier and took steps towards me with his hands in my face like he wanted to fight. This was at 7pm full restaurant. Infront of Jesus and everybody. Our dinner party was ruined. Darren is probably just as horrible to his staff as he was to his patrons. I'll never go back and i suggest we starve the man out so we can have a nice restaurant on that corner instead of the slum he is running. read more

UPDATE: Recently, I had a chance to attend an event (Kentucky Derby), for a friend who had normally held this at her house for the last 15+ years. They did everything for her: private room, the owner's Mom made a Derby Pie for the group & the waitstaff was phenomenal! I have never seen a restaurant go to this extent for a customer, but Darren's did! Way to go, please give them a try! read more
