I live on the corner of 3rd and Broadway, and one day I happened to notice a small repair shop across the street called Sky Fix. Not just phones either; computers, software issues, hardware issues, all of it. It made me realize how many hours of frustration I waste trying to Google solutions, watch YouTube tutorials, or use AI to generate step-by-step fixes that somehow never actually work. In my case, my charging ports constantly get clogged with dust and dirt, and instead of simply fixing the problem I end up spending hours stressed out, fighting with cords and restarting devices. At some point you start asking yourself: how much is your time worth? One of the things I love about Sky Fix is how accessible it is. I live right across the street, but even if I didn't, there are multiple parking structures surrounding it and none of them cost more than about ten dollars max. You can park and be at the front door within seconds. It's also directly off the Broadway & 2nd Metro stop, which honestly makes it one of the most accessible tech repair stores in the city. But the real reason I'm writing this review is Eric, the owner and manager. I work in tech myself, so I know what real intelligence in that world looks like, and Eric is one of the most adept minds I've been around in a long time. But what impresses me even more is something most people probably never notice. I see how he treats the homeless people who walk in with broken phones. I see how patient he is with people who are confused, stressed, or just trying to get a dead device working so they can contact somebody safe. I've watched him help people without charging them. I've watched him treat everyone in the neighborhood with dignity regardless of what they look like or whether they can pay. That kind of humanity is rare. Everybody around here knows Eric, and after getting to know the place a little better, I'm honestly proud to support a business like this in our neighborhood. Downtown can feel chaotic sometimes, but places like Sky Fix remind me why I still love living here. I mean I will tell you this downtown gets ridiculous finding a really cool spot with people you can trust is a bigger deal than you might think I don't have a lot of of those people in my life actually so thank you Eric for being one.

I specifically told them there was an electrical burning odor because I was concerned it was more than just a screen issue. I was assured that replacing the display would fix the problem, so they ordered the part and proceeded with the repair. After waiting for the part to arrive, they then told me the new screen didn't fix anything and that the logic board was actually damaged. In other words, after confidently telling me what the problem was, they ended up confirming what I had been worried about from the beginning. To make matters worse, they refunded the screen repair but still charged me a very expensive diagnostic fee...even though the diagnosis they gave me was wrong. Paying a premium diagnostic fee for an incorrect diagnosis is hard to justify. Unfortunately, the experience got even worse when I picked up my laptop. The customer service was incredibly poor. About 35 minutes after I left, they called to tell me they had forgotten to give me my charger. This happened on a Friday around 5:15 PM. They closed at 6:30 PM and were closed all weekend. I needed that charger immediately because I had to work using the laptop with an external monitor, which only works while plugged in. I explained the situation and even suggested they send it to me with an Uber Courier so I could keep working. Their response? "There's nothing we can do. We can hold it until Monday." No apology. No effort to make it right. No reimbursement. No ownership of their mistake. Because of their negligence, I had to scramble to find someone else to drive across town before they closed just to pick up the charger they forgot to give me. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a business responds when they make them. In my experience, this shop took no responsibility, showed no urgency, and offered terrible customer service from start to finish. I won't be returning, and I cannot recommend trusting them with an expensive device.

I contacted them via Yelp, asked for a quote and their hours, and they responded quickly with a very reasonable price--comparable to a regular shop, but even better, they could come to me. Despite their advertised 24/7 hours, I was skeptical, but sure enough, Sean showed up at my house at 10:30 p.m., right on time. I was a bit late, but he was very understanding. He repaired my LCD screen, and since my battery kept losing charge, I asked him about a battery replacement while he was working on it. He quoted me a really reasonable price, so I said, Why not? Let's just knock them both out at the same time!! Afterward, he took me through all the troubleshooting steps, testing every feature, and everything seemed perfect at first. The next day, though, I started experiencing some issues. Thankfully, he had given me his personal number in case that happened, so I contacted him immediately. He was back at my house within 24 hours, replaced the LCD screen again under warranty, at no extra charge. He also said that there was something wrong with the front facing camera, which it didn't before I gave it to him. He quoted a new price for the extra work that almost equaled the cost of a brand-new phone. Because the extra cost didn't make sense, I told him to just put the phone back together, offer a fair price for his time, and I'd just buy a new phone instead. (The phone was fully functional before this; it literally just had a cracked glass). He completely refused to reassemble the phone unless I paid for both the new rear case and the glass.
