I live on the corner of 3rd and Broadway, and one day I happened to notice a small repair shop across the street called Sky Fix. Not just phones either; computers, software issues, hardware issues, all of it. It made me realize how many hours of frustration I waste trying to Google solutions, watch YouTube tutorials, or use AI to generate step-by-step fixes that somehow never actually work. In my case, my charging ports constantly get clogged with dust and dirt, and instead of simply fixing the problem I end up spending hours stressed out, fighting with cords and restarting devices. At some point you start asking yourself: how much is your time worth? One of the things I love about Sky Fix is how accessible it is. I live right across the street, but even if I didn't, there are multiple parking structures surrounding it and none of them cost more than about ten dollars max. You can park and be at the front door within seconds. It's also directly off the Broadway & 2nd Metro stop, which honestly makes it one of the most accessible tech repair stores in the city. But the real reason I'm writing this review is Eric, the owner and manager. I work in tech myself, so I know what real intelligence in that world looks like, and Eric is one of the most adept minds I've been around in a long time. But what impresses me even more is something most people probably never notice. I see how he treats the homeless people who walk in with broken phones. I see how patient he is with people who are confused, stressed, or just trying to get a dead device working so they can contact somebody safe. I've watched him help people without charging them. I've watched him treat everyone in the neighborhood with dignity regardless of what they look like or whether they can pay. That kind of humanity is rare. Everybody around here knows Eric, and after getting to know the place a little better, I'm honestly proud to support a business like this in our neighborhood. Downtown can feel chaotic sometimes, but places like Sky Fix remind me why I still love living here. I mean I will tell you this downtown gets ridiculous finding a really cool spot with people you can trust is a bigger deal than you might think I don't have a lot of of those people in my life actually so thank you Eric for being one.

Either way, the experience was so terrible I feel compelled to share it. I called this shop multiple times beforehand to get a quote for a cracked screen repair. The technician assured me it could be fixed and recommended going with the aftermarket glass. After assessing it in person, he confirmed the plan, took the phone, and told me it would take about an 1-2 hours. When I returned, the phone was completely taken apart. Suddenly, the story changed. He claimed the back case also needed to be replaced to fit the new screen--something he specifically assured me wasn't necessary before he started. He also said that there was something wrong with the front facing camera, which it didn't before I gave it to him. He quoted a new price for the extra work that almost equaled the cost of a brand-new phone. Because the extra cost didn't make sense, I told him to just put the phone back together, offer a fair price for his time, and I'd just buy a new phone instead. (The phone was fully functional before this; it literally just had a cracked glass). He completely refused to reassemble the phone unless I paid for both the new rear case and the glass. He basically held my device hostage, forcing me into a costly repair under his terms, or forcing me to walk out with a completely disassembled, non-functional phone. I felt backed into a corner and had no choice but to pay. Unprofessional, dishonest, and predatory business practices. Avoid at all costs.

I contacted them via Yelp, asked for a quote and their hours, and they responded quickly with a very reasonable price--comparable to a regular shop, but even better, they could come to me. Despite their advertised 24/7 hours, I was skeptical, but sure enough, Sean showed up at my house at 10:30 p.m., right on time. I was a bit late, but he was very understanding. He repaired my LCD screen, and since my battery kept losing charge, I asked him about a battery replacement while he was working on it. He quoted me a really reasonable price, so I said, Why not? Let's just knock them both out at the same time!! Afterward, he took me through all the troubleshooting steps, testing every feature, and everything seemed perfect at first. The next day, though, I started experiencing some issues. Thankfully, he had given me his personal number in case that happened, so I contacted him immediately. He was back at my house within 24 hours, replaced the LCD screen again under warranty, at no extra charge. His customer service was outstanding--he made me feel completely at ease--and this experience was so awesome, I already know I'm going to hit him up to fix the two iPads that I have broken. I met with them that same day, within a few hours. Sean (apologies if spelled incorrectly) tried various methods, including a new phone battery, however he knew and explained that, due to it being a motherboard issue, it would be more complex and costly without a guaranteed result. My phone did not turn on again (it's a Samsung S10) and they provided me with tips on what I can do next and possible upgrade options. They have amazing customer service and were very understanding and patient with my questions and with allowing me to watch as they worked. She was incredibly kind and took the time to explain the entire process to me. Since I arrived close to closing time and didn't have an appointment, she let me know they would run diagnostics on my laptop the following day. There's an $89 diagnostic fee, and if repairs are needed, part of the $89 fee can be used towards the cost, which felt reasonable. The next day, Martin called to let me know there was no damage and that he had cleaned the affected keys. He explained that my laptop passed all tests, but the battery was consumed. When I wasn't sure what that meant, he patiently explained and advised that since the battery wasn't swelling and the computer was still performing well, there was no need to replace it unless I noticed issues. I really appreciated that he took the time to explain everything and didn't try to upsell me. I was able to pick up my laptop later that same day which was less than 24 hours after dropping it off.
