TL;DR: Sold me the wrong size bike, dismissed my input, repeated mechanical issues never fixed, tried to charge me for their mistakes, and treated me like a nuisance instead of a customer. I bought a $600 bike from this shop and told the owner at the time of purchase that I felt like I was leaning over dramatically towards the handlebars. Instead of helping me find the right size frame, he sold me the bike he had in stock and assured me it was fine. After a few months of riding, I developed constant neck, back, and wrist pain. The bike also had recurring mechanical problems. The tires rubbed against the frame or brakes, sometimes preventing the wheels from turning at all. Friends would help me adjust the seat or tires, but the fixes never lasted. When I brought it into Dashing, the owner dismissed my suggestions and insisted on making small incremental adjustments. This led to multiple trips back and wasted money on trips that never solved the issue. Including trips where I would call Dashing, ask the owner if I could bring my bike within the hour, arrive within the timeframe, and see a "Be back soon" sign on the door and wait indefinitely (usually another ~45 minutes) with fellow customers who'd appear until the owner returned annoyed. Estimates of when my bike would be ready were rarely honored. My bike was once in shop at the onset of beautiful weather (I missed a big social bike ride) for weeks longer than estimated. Getting in touch with someone on the phone despite leaving voicemails was impossible. I was later told by an employee that, "[They] don't really check voicemails." They also struggled with intra-staff communication between the three employees that I encountered. I would come in with an issue, tell it to the employee on duty who'd come up with what felt like a solution only to encounter at my next visit another uninformed employee who was not privvy to any of the reasons my bike was at the shop in the first place. The only helpful experience I had was with an employee named Rose, who actually listened, made on-the-spot adjustments, and checked with me before sending me home. Unfortunately, once I started riding again, the same wheel problem returned. Each time I brought it back, they would adjust spokes, but the issue kept happening. On my third visit, they even tried to charge me again for truing the tires, claiming my earlier adjustments to the stem plus my weight caused broken spokes. At that point, I told them to stop service and give me the bike back. What frustrated me most was not just the repeated mechanical issues but the dismissive, condescending way I was treated, especially by the owner and the other guy that works there. They never took responsibility for their poor service and acted like I was a nuisance or expecting free services instead of a loyal customer who had been shopping with them for years. On top of that, my bike would be returned to me with damage: the rubber that encases the break, split; the handlebar tape, loose; the cap on the handlebar, missing. There'd be no acknowledgement of the damage from Dashing. I would bring it to their attention only to be treated like it wasn't their problem. The current owner benefits from the community's assumption that the Dashing Bicycles on Sophie Wright Pl is owned by the same women that owned it under the same name, Dashing Bicycles, when it was on Broad St. Dashing Bicycles's current ownership (James, the face of it) does not uphold the same standard of care or accountability. I would not recommend buying a bike here. read more

I waited nearly 45 minutes by their door today because there was a "be back shortly" notice & this is the only bike repair shop in this part of uptown. There's no way to leave a message for them because their voicemail is backlogged (why?). GNO Cyclery on Carrollton answers the phone & is open during their posted hours. Had a flat tire and brought my bike in--within 10 minutes, they had it fixed and ready to go. They even noticed my brakes were a little too tight and adjusted them on the spot. Super friendly, efficient, and clearly know their stuff. This was a night-and-day difference from another local shop where I dropped off my bike for a derailleur fix and tune-up, and they had it for over a month with barely any updates. The guys over at Dashing Bikes was super helpful with getting my bike way more comfortable then when I got it! I walked in with some questions and they asked me to bring my bike in. And they got right to work. They checked my brakes and recentered it for me. And also helped get me more fitted on my bike by swapping to a shorter stem and it made such a drastic improvement! On a stroll down magazine street, I came across this cute, and not so little, bike shop. They have gorgeous bikes for sale, extra handlebar grips, baskets, you name it -- they have it for sale. I have not yet need any repairs on my bike but when I did need equipment in the past I drove all over the city because there aren't tons of bike shops around. Can't wait to support this business. Excellent bicycle purchasing experience! I had a thousand questions (ok maybe not that many but it was a lot!) and they were so patient and helpful and answered all of them plus some. I test drove the bicycle several times and did not feel pressured at all on making a decision since I wasn't sure of what I wanted as this was my first bicycle in a very long time. The shop is tiny. I didn't expect that as their reputation in the city is large. I took my bike in twice to get flats fixed and in one case to get a tire replaced. The repair was done efficiently and quickly. Because of COVID-19, only one person can be in the shop at a time. I dropped off my bike and waited in the car until they were finished. Needed my daughters tire replaced and every place we called had a two+ week backlog. We went on a Sunday at noon and were the only ones there. The exterior is awesome! We barely stepped inside and the staff person sized up the bike, knew what we needed and said he start on it right away. We came back in 40 minutes and it was done, $16. I haven't had a bike since I was a kid (I'm now 38). I didn't really know exactly what I was looking for, I had a budget in mind, and I'm very tall so I needed something to fit my frame. Dashing Bicycles is next-door to the salon my friend owns and had come recommended not only by her, but also a few other people I know. When I walked in, I was greeted by Paul who took into account how I would be using the bike (along with my other needs) and he offered two options, both of which I test rode. I just spent over 100 dollars here. A tune up and some parts swaps ended with a squeeky derailer, improperly adjusted brakes, poorly wrapped bars, and drop bars where the drop points down instead of back. The entire transaction was off-putting as the person I spoke with was condescending, paid no heed to the kind of bike I wanted, and contradicted herself about geometry and adjustments. I didn't say anything because she was so over the top self assured and condescending I just wanted to be out of there. Never again. If I had a flat on Esplanade and Broad, I would walk my bike for hours rather than go back here. read more

Cute little bike/ coffee shop near our hotel. My husband purchased an awesome NOLA biking shirt, and I enjoyed some lattes. The two gals that own the shop are super sweet and friendly. there are also some pretty cool vintage items as well- It would be awesome if they sold some of those items online! I was a loyal patron of Bayou Bikes for many years, but I got tired of their condescending attitude. Dashing is a bit farther for me to go, but I find they are courteous and helpful. Their repair charges are also cheaper than Bayou. The shop is very small with limited inventory, so if I need something right away, I may not be able to find it here. My son was looking for a new bike and has found out that you get what you pay for. So, after being disappointed with his bike that he bought on the internet about a year ago which broke almost immediately, he started researching bikes with close to 5 stars online. We went to a place in Hammond near his college and had a bad experience with Gray Cat cycles. We decided to look at bike shops either in or near the New Orleans area. We went to one bike shop Bayou bikes or something like that and my son told the lady there what he was looking for and actually she told us to check out Dashing. She said that they moved to a new location so I called to make sure of the address. The man who answered the phone was so polite and told me the address and we went there and was actually greeted outside the door because I told him that I couldn't find the building but knew I had to be nearby. He helped my son right away. My son purchased a Retrospect Harper in a matte olive green. He purchased a kick stand which was installed there in the shop. The bike totaled about $340.00 with the kickstand. It is the bike of his dreams, and loves riding it. It will be used mostly to get around the college campus. I was so impressed as how knowledgeable and caring the staff was that I brought my bike to the store to purchase 2 new tires and to get a little tune up on it. I was told that it may take around a few days to get it back or a week. I got a call a couple of hours later that my bike was ready!!!!! People truly do make a difference. I wanted to support the shop in my neighborhood and went down to get a post lock for a bike someone gifted me when leaving. The woman helping me was friendly and quick. She measured what size I needed and brought it out and slipped it on the post with my seat and told me the part cost $6. Great! Then she tightened it with a few twists of the hex wrench and casually said as she was walking to the register that it was a $5 charge to install it.
