Generally not too impressed with everything. When I called to make an appointment, the reception girl tells me, she will book my color appointment but it will just be a consult too see if a particular staff member can do it. That makes me feel uneasy already. I go in, sit down with the colorist and she seems to know how to do it. So I let her know what the reception lady mentioned and if for some reason she thinks she cannot do this then I'd rather wait and have the master colorist do it instead. She seemed puzzled. Since I was in dire need of redoing the color, I let her proceed. She get some bleach ready and slathers it on and now I am wondering why she is not using foil like when I got this done before. 10 minutes in and my scalp is on fire and burning like crazy. So much that I could not withstand any more torture. Maybe this is a normal process but this was not my previous experience. Long story short, my body felt in shock, it got rinsed out, cut and styled. I asked for my cut to be straight across not curved. I expect what I ask for to be done not the opposite. It looked ok so no biggie. Just glad that the less than 1/2 an inch trim didn't turn into more! Then I go to pay and they don't have where you can tip anyone on the receipt! So then I have to go out of my way to find cash back somewhere to not pay a fee which I could not find. So now I have to make an unnecessary trip back just to tip. FYI - You get a different person for every service. Not so fond of that. read more

I went yesterday Sunday March 7th for high lights and a haircut. While adding the coloring and foils, they burned my scalp and they did not listen when I started asking them to stop. Where should I start ? I've been a loyal customer for a year now and I always go to Jean. This time he was not available and the front desk suggested me a stylist called "Daniel" i asked if he is a good one and she said yes he is a professional and in fact charges more than my regular styler ! I said alright then since I was in a hurry to get a hair cut. I just asked this guy to cut an inch off my hair and add some layers and he gave me the WORST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE. After the damage he had done he did not want to style my hair and wanted to leave it damp so I am not gonna see the terrible chop he did to my hair ! I asked him 4 times to curl it in order for me to see how he did and he every time said ok but then just pretended he is curling and the picture is the final result! I can't believe i had to pay 60$ for this disaster ! He then just left me there without telling me if I like the haircut ! Which i know why he didn't and instead ran and started to mop the floor because he was so ashamed of what he did to my hair ! When I informed the front desk lady she didn't apologize to me and gave me a look. They didn't offer my money back either ; i cried for two days straight and when i went back to ask my regular styler to fix this he was shocked at what his co worker had done to my hair ! He apologized while Daniel was working on the next chair not even looking here. I had to eventually cut my hair as short as possible in order to cover his damage. THIS WAS NOT THE SERVICE I ASKED FOR. You guys RUINED my hair and my plans for the next 6 months- a year till my hair grows !!! I need my message to be reached out to this salon's manager and owner " your staff is not qualified to perform a simple hair cut!" I have been doing my hair in Dass for a long time. Omar and luzia are the best over there. the only issue is that Dass customer service has been deteriorating in a way that is not acceptable. My last negative experience was today. Omar was working on my hair and Dass owner son, MR Shaw son, came to Omer and in front of me with a very nasty attitude toward Omar told him to hurry up and to finish my hair because another customer was waiting. 1. Neither Omar or I were late. 2. Mr Shaw son should be more discrete when complaining to his employee in front of a customer, in this case me, 3. Mr Shaw son should treat his employees with more respect. so dissatisfied and disappointed. this used to be a beautiful salon with beautiful people. At the register I complain to MR Shaw son for his attitude. He did not even apologize, all he said is that he can not spend that much time with a customer. Rude rude and rude. Service is pretty good. They generally have appointment availability even at the last minute. But it's pricey. $45 for men's haircut before tip and mine are not that difficult to cut! I have been getting balayage treatments for years by same person in Atlanta. She was not available so I tried Petra Shaw at Dass. She has worked with both my college daughters and done a beautiful job. She did an amazing job on my hair! I cannot say enough good things. I was first introduced to DASS in Perimeter Mall this past June, by my best friend. Since I was making a rather dramatic hair change, I was a bit hesitant, but it was one of the best decisions I've ever been coaxed into! The atmosphere at DASS is upbeat, the music is great and it is very clean and modern. Everyone seems to have their own style (literally), which is a good thing! When making an appt., you are dispatched into a call-center (but it still has the same feel as if you are calling the salon directly). I appreciate how they consider the time allotted for each service so as to not feel rushed through each process. Prices are based on the level of stylist you request (Stylist's for cuts begin at $35 +, Color Stylist prices also vary). DASS has a rewards program which is tallied based upon the service you request (you can even earn points for booking a pre-booked appt.). On previous visits, they have advertised a 15% discount for walk-ins, Mon-Wed., but I no longer saw this advertised while there tonight. Prices were raised in the summer so this promotion may have compensated for the increase. I speak for a living so my Stylist and Color Stylist are always respectful for when I would like a "quiet" appt. or if I am in a "chatty" mood. Tips are cash only. So last weeks hair debacle had to be fixed. (see previous review for the full story). I've been to Dass before. The Mall of GA location is nice, my colorist Brandi is not there anymore. The Northpoint one left a bad taste, the stylist who took care of me was a pompous you know what. He actually said, "I know what women want," when I tried to tell him how I wanted it done. This locations was quite refreshing, bigger than the others and friendlier. I came on a busy day. Matt met me and I really love that he didn't just sit me down and start talking above my head while looking at the mirror. He took the time to sit down across from me and ask me what happened to my hair and what I wanted done with it. Dude was fast, he fixed the burnt caramel brassy color into a warm chocolate brown in about an hour or so. He wasn't rough as some tend to be with my poor tender head.. Very professional and I felt like I was in good hands. I ended up giving him a hug after it was all said and down and a good tip. Then saw Donna the stylist. She was very friendly and when I told her the cut I wanted she gave suggestions on how it would frame my face better. She was absolutely right. I started smiling at the results as my hair got dry. It was perfect. Mastercard commercial started running through my head. I must highly recommend Chin, the esthetician. She is the EYEBROW QUEEN. I know there are now other eyebrow places in the mall, but please don't miss Chin. She is sweet, smart and always makes me look more polished on that way out than I did on the way in. The only drawback to this place is that they do not let you tip on your credit card, which I think is terribly cruel to their staff. Dass, please rethink this policy! This was my first time at Dass Salon, and I loved it. I called in randomly late one night (2 hrs before they closed) and thankfully, they got me an appointment an hour later. Logan is AMAZING! I'm not going to lie, I was a little bit scared, because I'm horrible with keeping up my hair and it has been 9 months since my last cut,,. not to mention I had never met Logan before. She praised me on how healthy my hair was, and because she was so friendly and sociable, it went by so fast! I definitely recommend her. I have been away from home for a few months and was forced to go to different colorists twice in another state. I am so upset with my hair from the out of state stylists! I colored my hair yesterday there and I specifically asked that I want to make sure my grays will be covered. And the stylist said he will put base color to cover my grays and put partial highlights so, I will get the best result. I looked at my hair this morning in natural light and all my grays are still there and the highlight color is not even, part of it is too yellow and other part is too light. Moreover, They charged me $160 for this hair. So disappointed, I used to go there for my hair cuts, but I won't be back again. Poor service. read more

I generally go somewhere else to get my hair done, but my wedding was so close to a major holiday that my regular salon was closed. I had to go somewhere else to get my hair done, and had no time (or money) for practice runs. I had recently had my hair cut to shoulder length (the first time my hair had ever been short) and didn't know what to do with it. So, I make an appointment here with a stylist who can supposedly do wonders with shorter hair, to make me look fabulous for my wedding. I also schedule an appointment with their make-up artist. The morning of my wedding, I get a call from the salon: my stylist is out sick - can I reschedule for another day? WHAT? I re-explain that, no - I can't because I'm getting married in 6 hours. Isn't there ANYONE who can do my hair? After some humming and hawing on the receptionists part (and a few minutes on hold) she finally tells me that Don Shaw himself had agreed to do my hair. Well - it IS his own salon! So, I breathe a sigh of relief and head over. When I arrive I wait only a few moments until I am ushered over to an older gentleman, who is surrounded by 4 or 5... I would call them groupies, but apparently they were students or apprentices of some kind. He asks me what I want - and I explain that I don't know: just something nice. He tells me that whomever cut my hair last was a cross-eyed idiot, because it seems my hair is uneven (by a millimeter or something). He has my hair washed by one of his groupies, he trims my hair, blow dries it, parts it on a different side than normal, and tells me that I'm done. That's right... he did nothing (leaving me no time to go home and re-do it) and charged me for it. If that weren't enough, then the older Russian make-up artist starts slathering on pounds of make up, makes my eyebrows somehow look like little fuzzy caterpillars and tells me how lucky I am to be getting married so young - so I can start having hundreds of babies right away. I wanted to cry all the way home, but didn't want to make myself look any worse than I already did. So... what do I look like in the few wedding pictures that I allowed to be taken? Well... by the time I got there and everything was said and done, my hair was basically greased down to my head like a helmet (from all the unnecessary product he put in my hair and did nothing with), totally straight and not really nice at all. My face was shiny and nearly reflective from too much makeup. And I kind of resembled a mid-80's prostitute. Hurray. I wouldn't go back - not in a million years, and not for a million dollars. I'm just totally, 100% disgusted with the way this business is run, and by what it's owner/founder lets walk out of it's doors. But I suppose that's what you get from a mall-salon. I went to DASS initially for an eyebrows and upper lip wax and Chan was amaazing! My boyfriend and I wanted to do a couples spa day and the receptionists were more than accomodating in regards to trying to book both esteticians for that one day. They informed me that they would get in touch with us to confirm. We waited for a week and they still hadn't gotten back to us. My boyfriend went ahead and made reservations at Jazmin spa, which turned out to be a better choice in regards to price and service. DASS finally got back to me and I had to decline. I recently booked an appointment for coloring. I had an appointment on Sunday to meet with Blaine. He had a great haircut that was dyed an awesome color so this gave me confidence that he would understand the colors I wanted. When I got in we did a brief consultation and he informed me that for the result I wanted I would need to come in for an additional one or two follow up appointments, which I expected and was fine with. That day I spent a total of five hours there. He started by stripping the initial color I had. When that was done I had blonde hair with some of my old color in random spots, since it did not lift in the first process. We had to stop there and he placed some conditioner on my hair and had me sit under the dryer. I waited for half an hour and finally asked a staff member where blaine was and if I was done. They informed me that blaine had left a while ago and redirected me to another staff member. Unfortunetly I can not recall her name that started with an "S" but she was great. I had a follow up appointment for Tuesday since blaine does not work mondays. I wore a hat to work the next day since my hair was a blonde mess. As I was walking from the parking lot towards dass for my appointment on Tuesday I received a voicemail left ten minutes earlier. I checked it and it was dass calling me, ten minutes before my appointment, that blaine was out sick that day and I would have to call and reschedule. Since I had reached their doors by the end of the message I went in anyways. I was furious that I had to go back to work with that splotchy blonde hair and that they had cancelled last minute. On top of it wednesdays were also blaine's day off so I had to reschedule for Thursday. I recently moved to the area and had deadlines for paperwork for the dmv, social security office, city hall and etc while working forty hours a week. So unfortunetly I could not make it in on Thursday due to spending my day at the dmv. I had to reschedule for Friday. I came in on Friday for a 1030 appointment and ran a little late due to traffic. I got in at 1040 and they informed me that blaine would not have time to take me and that I had to go back at 1245. I live half an hour away and saw no point in driving home only to drive back. I was looking to run some errands before going onto work but can't do that either. So instead I am sitting around for two hours doing nothing. it was a horrible experience having to have blonde hair for a whole week with red splotches all over. This place was an inconvienence and I will not patronize this establishment again. read more

Nice folks but .. did you know that you have to dry and style your own hair if you go in for color? Most bizarre thing ever. I went in and got a color service the other day. All went great, the colorist was very nice and all. But after the coloring application was complete and I was shampooed and all she said, "If you're interested, our self-serve style station is over there" and directed me to this little area with hair dryers and brushes and what not. I was just stunned. Like .. what? I'm standing there with a soaking-wet head, wearing a cape, drying my own hair in a salon? I sort of expect to walk out of a salon looking a little better than I do when I just walk out of my house, you know? This would be like, you're at a restaurant and they go, "Would you like dessert? Here's a cake pan and there's the oven, knock yourself out!" read more

I have a few things to say about Dass since I have been here four times in the past year and a half for a cut. My first experience was with Morgan, like a previous reviewer and she was amazing! She looked like tinker bell, except more spunky and modern and as I was getting my hair shampooed I had asked to have my hair like hers. I was then adviced she would be cutting my hair. I was thrilled and she did such an amazing job that I didn't need to go back for a cut for over 6 months. My hair grew out beautifully, and I didn't NEED to use products to get it to work for me. I could blow dry it, sleep on it and I was good to go. When it was time to get a trim, I called and asked for Morgan only to find out she had broken her arm. I decided I absolutely had to have her so I would wait until she got better. I called a month later only to find out she was no longer with Dass! While at Dass the first time, Morgan told me a senior stylist there, Demetrius had cut her hair. I thought I would give him a try my second time since Morgan no longer worked there. Since he has been with Dass 15 yrs + he charged $70 for the cut. So... I went in with a picture or how my hair looked when Morgan cut it and also spoke with him about her and how he had cut her hair before. I had asked for the same cut, but that was not what I got. He kept asking me questions when I thought the cut should be pretty clear. "Do you want this shorter?" etc. In the end I was left with very little hair (I looked like a boy kind of) and nothing near the cut I had asked for! I was so upset at dropping $70 for such a worthless do. Third trip to Dass, I decided back with the mid level stylists. I don't remember my stylist name for that trip, her price was $40 like Morgans, and I remember going to work the next day and everyone telling me how horrible my hair looked. They just kept asking why I cut it, I had to actually go back to the salon to ask her to fix it. In the end, it ended up looking okay, bearable but nothing to call home about. I probably could have cut my hair on my own and saved myself the $40. The fourth trip to Dass I decided to just walk in for a special they have on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, this time at Lenox. I forget the stylist I had then, but she was the worst I've had yet. She brought me hair books and asked me show her what I wanted. I picked a few out, at that point she advised me she couldn't do those because my hair was naturally curly and I should embrace what I have. I thought this was ridiculous. I was thinking "If morgan could do it, why can't you?" I finally decided on a short layered cut that complimented wavy her because she was being sooo unbearable and pushy, the end result looked nothing like the picture which she then tried to blame on me stating I didn't know what I wanted. When I asked her to fix parts of my hair, she made excuses like, "you can fix that with a styling product." Which basically means she was too friggin' lazy to cut my hair and wants me to "fix" it with styling product. I continued telling her that one side the cut was straight and was poofing out around my ears, and she adviced me to just let it be. This stylist charged $50 which was ROBBERY. She was the worst stylist that has ever laid hands on my hair and after my experience with her I will NEVER go back to DASS. I will be looking for the new talents at Van Michael to see if they can perform better than the amateurs at Dass. They are charging big bucks for Great Clip quality, and it's nauseating. read more

As an Atlanta native, I've been to all salons in Atlanta but keep coming back to DASS. Only they know how to do it right. The cost is not pricey compared to other "trendy" salons in Atlanta. They've been around forever like 40+ years. Currently, I only trust my hair to Omar. He does cut and coloring. I'm very particular as I have fine straight hair. EDIT: Sadly, Logan has moved on and no longer works here. Ask for Logan. Bring Cash. My wife was the one who tried Dass for our 2 yr old daughter on a whim when she really needed a cut. They were in the Mall and just popped in to see if someone could trim up our daughter. My wife was so happy with the cut and care that Logan gave (it's not easy to cut a 2-year old's hair by far) that she decided to make an appointment for herself the next week. After my wife went and hearing how happy she was, I decided to give Logan a shot at my hair too. She is great. Granted, I'm a guy so it's not as complicated as a woman's hair, but I was tired of the lazy, cheap cuts I had been getting at the fantastic-great-barber-clips-sams. Anyway, I highly recommend Logan. She is very friendly and great with cut and styles. The thing is, while Logan is fantastic, I don't really like the Dass company. First thing, you must have cash to leave a tip. They will not put it on your card. That's a bit annoying and I feel it hurts their stylists more than anything. Especially for people who go the first time and don't know or just forget to stop and get cash before hand. Second problem I have is the "follow up call". The next day, after your visit, you will get a phone call asking how your visit was. I feel that this could be asked at the time of the visit or perhaps mail a post card to the customer which would feel less intrusive to me. The most annoying part, however, is about 2 weeks after the "follow up call", I get TEXT MESSAGES on my cell phone asking if I wish to sign up for text alerts and notifications about my appointments. Don't be fooled, this is not a courtesy "alert" system. It is designed as an advertisement to remind you to make your next appointment. It is SPAM sent to your cell phone and it is the most off-putting, annoying, ridiculous thing a company can do. This is the type of thing that causes me to do business elsewhere. Fortunately for them, Logan still works there and she is the reason I go. I have loyalty to her, but not this company. read more

I was at this location a month ago and the stylist was not friendly at all. She messed up the hair color and when i complained about it they refused to give me refund. I spoke to the manager, Vida, who gave me corporate's phone number because they didn't want to refund me. I called Petra in corporate and left 2 message already but haven't heard anything back. Looking for a new salon closer to home. I had gone to Dass in the 90s when it was still Don Shaw, and thought I'd give it a try. Saw the same junior stylist twice. First haircut was OK - the back looked great, and she softened up the too-blunt bangs in the front after I asked her to. Went back again just wanting it trimmed and layers cleaned up and was not happy at all. Had to ask again to go softer in the front and sides, and now both bangs and side layers are way too short and still blunt. Looked awful the next two days of trying to style it myself. Thank goodness my hair grows quickly -- but I'll still have a LOT time to find a new place before this mess grows out a bit. read more
