    4. Oxtails

So disappointed that I ordered a large oxtail plate through DoorDash and I only got 3 full oxtails (that were small). The rest of the oxtail was mainly bone. I feel like the picture is making it look more full than it was, so just know that if you're getting oxtails. The portion is not going to be worth it. You're paying for extra rice really!

Curry goat with a shared oxtail from my husbands plate lol

I've had food from him 3 separate times and it's always really good and fresh. The curry goat is my favorite. The jerk chicken strong 2nd and the veggies are always cooked to perfection. Great service and reasonably priced for this economy aside from the fact that it's the best Jamaican food in the IE.

I grabbed the Jamaican Beef Patty while my partner went with the Curry Chicken, roti, and chickpeas. While we waited, I noticed the lovely young lady in the back happily singing as she made the patties, and I'm convinced she seasoned them with good vibes because every bite tasted like love!! Hands down the best Jamaican beef patty I've ever had, crispy, beefy, savory, ridiculously aromatic, and that little dab of habanero sauce had my mouth pleasantly on fire for a minute!! The curry chicken was no slouch either. I stole a bite of the roti dunked in that rich curry sauce, and wow... so flavorful and delicious!! Safe to say I'll be dragging the whole family here the next time they visit. Highly recommend!

Seriously, you need to come here…read more It's located in a dining hall at the back end. Very hole in the wall type of place. But listen, I don't care where you live; it's worth the trip. The jerk chicken was amazing and very generous, a little spicy, but not you have to down some milk. The cabbage, I feel is the real standout in this meal. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. The chicken curry was also a little spicy but again, you're not drowning in water. Also seasoned to perfection. The service was amazing, and the food was delivered to us very quickly (we ate at the hall). I highly recommend this place and try the grapefruit soda. You'll love it!

After craving Jamaican food for what feels like forever, I finally decided to search Yelp on my way…read morehome from working in LA and came across The Taste of the Caribbean in Long Beach - and wow, this hit the spot in a way I've been missing for too long. For context, I've always loved Jamaican food and even have family who make incredible, authentic dishes, but I haven't had anything close to that in a year. So my expectations? High. My craving? Even higher. I ordered the jerk chicken dinner with peas & rice and cabbage medley, and some plantains - to go. First off, the service was amazing. The woman who helped me was genuinely warm and welcoming, and you can tell she cares about what she's serving. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted the jerk sauce on the side and made sure I was okay with the spice level when I said no. That attention to detail matters. The food came out quickly (it was mid-afternoon and not busy), and everything stayed warm all the way home--which is always a win for takeout. Now let's talk about the food: The portion was generous, the flavors were on point, and everything tasted fresh. The jerk chicken had that perfect smoky, spicy kick - exactly what I was hoping for. The rice and peas and cabbage medley were a great balance to the heat, and the plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. I did notice another review complaining about the spice level being too high... and honestly, I had to laugh a little. Have you had jerk chicken before? It's supposed to be spicy - that's the whole point. Personally, that comment is part of what made me choose this place, and it delivered. If you don't like spice, jerk might not be your thing - but I'm sure there are milder options if you ask. Bonus: they offer online ordering and delivery through Uber Eats and Postmates, which makes it even easier to get your fix. Overall, this place brought back the flavors I've been missing for so long. I'll absolutely be back - and probably sooner rather than later.

First the food!! it was delicious, each dish featured multiple flavors playing off one another, in a complex but not overwhelming way. The food is restaurant quality, and the authentic Jamaican flavors are just half the story, chef Greg takes a simple dish like red pea soup and he turns it into an edible piece of art. Of all the dishes that he cooked for us, I would say that his homemade stew pork with mashed potatoes was my favorite. But each dish was delicious! The Jerk chicken, rice and peas, with cabbage, the shrimp linguine, beef stew and red wine, festivals, and the bbq wings. I highly recommend chef Greg's authentic Jamaican cuisine.

All in all a hidden gem and in my opinion one of the best Jamaican spots in Cali! I ordered the oxtails, island shrimp, beef patties, brown stew chicken and curry chicken. Every meal comes with plastic silverware and 4 sides: plantains, a hefty serving of rice-reallyyyy flavorful- festivals, and salad. Every.single.thing.was amazing even the sides were cooked well, my personal favorite was the oxtail and shrimp! If you want authentic Jamaican food give Greg's kitchen a visit you won't regret it, he cooks with love and you can taste it in each bite. I devoured the brown stew chicken way too fast and forgot to get a photo lol. I will definitely order more while in the IE.
