    Kapow tofu

This area is actually Virginia, in a confluence of three states where VA would have been my last guess if I woke up here wondering where I was. This restaurant is separate from the downtown stretch and has an airy interior with plenty of light. It is notable for having a vegan-friendly menu. My tofu was deep-fried and quite crispy and I enjoyed it texturally. I didn't ask them for the highest spice level; the default was noticeable but I'd ask for more if I had another shot at it. After being told that the other tea drinks were powder-based and the Thai iced tea was freshly made, I opted for that and it was a robustly flavored way to wash things down. Harpers Ferry and the surrounding area doesn't have a ton of places like this, so crossing state lines was easily worthwhile for me.

A GEM of a culinary delight! Everything was amazing! My daughter and i stopped in here on a whim, after a day of shopping, and were not disappointed. Very friendly service and fresh made dishes, served hot. Presentation was beautiful The restaurant is small and run out of a converted home, very quaint but clean. Definitely worth the drive!

I was very excited to try this well-rated Thai restaurant during our stay in Lovettesville, and I really enjoyed the food! The food was very fresh, piping hot, and flavorful. My favorite was the Tom Kha soup. Of the food we ordered, the Tom Kha stood out as especially delicious. The rest of the dishes were solid but not stand-out amazing. I enjoyed the red curry with tofu. My partner loved the shrimp taco appetizer. He thought the crispy shrimp pad Thai was just okay. The prices were high for the dishes. One weird thing on the menu is that the basic Red Curry is marked as $15, but if you want veggies or tofu it's $2 extra?? Normally veggies or tofu are included in the base price and then maybe shrimp would be extra. Why not just put the base price at $17? Either way, $17 dollars is expensive for curry with tofu. However, the portions were very big. We couldn't finish our meals. Overall, a good restaurant, a solid 4/5.

We were looking for a place to eat near the wineries and everything was becoming absolutely packed. Luckily this restaurant popped up and it was DELICIOUS. They have really great selections for wine and a bunch of apps that are great to pass around and share.

Checked in to this thai restaurant. Very authentic thai food. The Thai tea is the best here. I have not like Thai tea in most of the places but this one you will have to try it. The drunken noodles is good as well. The broccoli soup is great.

On a recent drive in Virginia, we stopped at this restaurant on a whim. The place is small but worth a stop. The food is fantastic. The service is attentive and friendly. I highly recommend it.

Terrible... they shouldn't ask for the spice level when everything they make is mild, at best.

    Is it mostly for takeout?

Not really. Since Covid situation, everything have changed…but now our dining room ready to serve our customer again..;))

Is this place under new management? How does the new place compare in terms of food and service? I experienced long wait times at Thaiverse and it was pretty pricey.

Yes, it is a new management.

SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

I liked the addition of panko breadcrumbs for crunch, but I wish the imitation crab meat had been shredded more finely for better texture. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Basil Crispy Duck (added $1 for Thai spicy). They definitely delivered on the spicy level, but the duck itself was not crispy. It came with rice and bell peppers and basil. The sushi tasted fresh, which was good. Service could use some improvement. We had to ask for small bowls for soy sauce, and when we requested a dessert menu to celebrate the birthday, we were told the kitchen had already closed. It would have been nice if our server had given us a heads up before the kitchen closed. The ambiance is cozy. It almost feels like dining in someone's house. They had Halloween decorations up and murals of historic Frederick painted on the walls. They also have a private parking lot, which made it convenient. Overall, food was good, but a little more attentiveness from the staff would've made the experience even better.

Kanpai is in a prime place along Rockville Pike, but depending on when you go you may find easy parking. (If you're not bothered about where to park, ignore what I just said.) Out front there's something that looks like a tuk-tuk or rickshaw. Tbh, don't know if it's theirs or the business next door. The restaurant itself is clean and elegant. Also, not as loud as some Korean BBQs (thinking of KPOT off of Randolph Rd), which is important if you don't like being overwhelmed by everyone else's noise. That is one big '+' in Kanpai's favor. The waiter was cool and very helpful. Because of him I now know what the thin meat slices are meant for (which is for the soup), before then I had no clue. The food itself is good. Like, why wouldn't it be? I actually prefer the shabu-shabu (soup), makes me wish I knew how to do that myself so I wouldn't have to go out as much. Yes, the grill meats were great, as was the kimchi. These places are not cheap, but it was enjoyable while I was there. If you're not in a rush you can go a few doors down afterward to an import store selling everything from K-chips to puzzle-kits. So I would say...take your time. But don't warm your seats for more than 90 minutes, as Korean BBQs tend to kick people out (nicely, nicely) if one overstays. P.S. I'm sure they have some great drinks there, but even if I wanted to I couldn't loiter. That's what Bethesda is for. (Or at least how it used to be.)

Today we tried Lazy Fish because it was recommended by David's colleague. We got the Pork Belly appetizer, Lazy Rainbow, Lazy Shack, and the Lazy Spaghetti which was on the Specials menu when we went. Pork Belly: Although the pork itself was fatty and tender, and a bigger piece than we expected, although waaaaay too much cabbage and a little too sweet from the pineapple for my taste. Lazy Shack and Lazy Rainbow: LOVED these rolls! We were actually impressed by how fresh the fish was?? And the amount and texture of the rice was on point. Multiple tables next to us got the Lazy Rainbow so it seems like a popular one to get. We also appreciated the real crab that they used (although I may have gotten the smallest piece of shell in my Lazy Shack, but it was so good I didn't even care). Lazy Spaghetti: Basically like a massamun beef curry and spaghetti fusion. On the tad spicy side for me. Was really creamy and the sauce to spaghetti ratio was a little heavy (on the sauce side) that I wish there was more spaghetti to soak it up. Definitely would stick to the sushi here (although I'm a sucker for a sushi + hot dish combo). Would consider coming back to try some of their nigiris next time!
