I took my Birkenstock sandals to David Page, to have them resoled. The employee who accepted them recommended having the sole and footbed replaced as the cork was broken in one area. They commented on how it was worth spending $80 for getting that done as the leather straps were still in such great condition. When I went to pick up my Birkenstocks 10 days later, another employee handed them to me and I gave them my credit card. While they were running my card, I inspected the sandals and noticed several areas where the leather was completely scuffed, part of one of the leather straps was cut off, and the straps weren't glued back in the correct position. I mentioned that to the employee when they handed me back my credit card. I asked what could be done about this, since this was not how I had left my sandals and they were now in worse shape than before, apart from the new sole and footbed. They took the sandals to David Page, who was in a front corner of the shop. He called over to me that this is how they looked when I dropped them off. He was not in the shop when I dropped them off, so I'm not sure how he would know. I asked what could be done to remedy the damage. David got very upset, threw the sandals in my direction and said "just take them, you don't have to pay." I have never in my whole life encountered such rude behavior and such horrible customer service in a business. I left the shop without signing the credit card charge acceptance. I checked in with Birkenstock Customer Service after this encounter and learned that David Page is NOT an authorized Birkenstock repair shop, despite the sign he has on the counter in his shop and as advertised on his website. Birkenstock is currently working on having him remove the sign and taking down that information on his website as well. Had he been an authorized repair shop, Birkenstock would have guaranteed his work. I also later noticed that David Page charged my credit card with $88.00, despite telling me that I didn't have to pay. I had the charges reversed through my credit card company, so I'm only left with a ruined pair of my favorite Birkenstock sandals. read more

Dave and his staff are great: their repairs are excellent, and customer service is always great. I've taken boots into them for a number of types of repairs and treatments over the past few years: widening the toe box of hiking and mountaineering boots, resoling casual leather boots, et cetera. Each time, I've been impressed by both the care he and his staff show my boots. I also always appreciate that Dave and his team are always honest and up-front about what exactly I'll be getting for the money I'm spending (including telling me when a repair isn't worth the cost). Finally, I don't understand the reviews that say Dave or anyone else there are rude -- I've experience exactly the opposite. They have always been friendly, patient, and clearly very dedicated to their craftsmanship. I have a pair of Asolo hiking books I bought in 2002 and finally this year, the sole gave out. Nevermind that the soles themselves were starting to wear thin too, but literally the bedding underneath the sole gave out. Since my feet really love these boots, I wasn't interested in buying another pair. Instead of looking through Yelp, I called the manufacturer to see if they did sole repairs. They gave me two names and numbers. The one on the West coast was Dave Page. So the process was pretty straight forward: send Dave your info via email form of what you want done and send him your boots. I sent him some pics and I'm sure that helped. He emailed me when he got my boots (which was really cool), and then gave me an estimated complete date. I received the boots and can't be happier! My beloved Asolo's are back in business. Can't wait to use them again. He replaced them with Vibram soles. The boot laces don't match the old ones, so I ended up using the old ones again as they still are in good shape. This was the first time to send my expensive wallet to be repaired at this place. My special ostrich leather gifted from my aunt came back with a horrible finish. The broken side zipper was replaced larger size YKK zipper. It looks so sloppy, unprofessional and bad finish. The zipper is much bigger and not smooth to open. The zipper area has wrinkles and so bumpy. Not a smooth surface at all. This place might be a good place for shoes or large items. But definitely, not for a sensitive, fragile items. So disappointed. I will bring this back to Japan to be re-done ASAP when the pandemic is over. I tried the price negotiation with Dave, but it was refused. read more

I understand Dave has been in the trade for a very long time; yet that is no excuse for horrible customer service and poor craftsmanship. I had brought in a pair of brand new $795 natural leather shoes in to simply have a sole added to them and the natural leather had gotten scuffed/scratched during the process. Dave didn't notice until I said something and further accused that I had brought them in that way. Perhaps Dave could retire and allow his apprentices take over since he seems disinterested in the trade from his lackluster or non existent greeting (which seems to be a norm for all customers) and attention to detail. Perhaps Broadway Shoe Repair could do better. In comparison; cobblers in Japan pay the finest attention to the smallest detail for each job and I really miss the pride that they had in their craftsmanship. read more

I had two pairs of dress shoes that I wanted rubber soles on, so that they could be more "daily walkers" than "once in a blue moon" shoes. I took both pairs to Dave, and he assured me that they'd be done quickly. In just a week or so, the work was completed. Birkenstock sole replacement: I came here because they were highly recommended but upon pickup I was advised that my cork was in shocking condition (news to me) and that I should have been presented the option of having it replaced. Upon examining the shoes at home, they appear to have damaged the cork while replacing the base, with a lot at the front completely removed, and cracking it (and also part of the top where my foot goes). I wish I'd had a closer look at the time, but I had kids with me, and they handed them to me like here you go- not a chance to examine the work. I was disappointed to say the least. Thankfully I can still wear them, but I wish I'd found a place that would have taken more care since they look shabby now and I don't want to break a new pair in. read more

I brought in my very old Blundstone mules (can't be found anymore new) and they came back just like they were fresh out of the box when I first bought them. These shoes had soles that split/cracked and I had almost given up hope of ever wearing them again. I'm guessing they were over 10-12 years old. But another wonderful and generous cobbler (Angel's) suggested that I try Dave Page and it was a perfect solution. Our Asolo boots didn't have many miles on them but they had sat in the closet a little too long and suffered from hydrolysis. A mile into the wilderness both soles disintegrated and left both soles hanging by the tongue. Lucky we had some duct tape with us to hold them together again, and luckily we were only a mile in. We hated to throw away really nice Gore-tex uppers and were thrilled to find Dave Page, Cobbler in many articles and recommendations from Asolo and Vasque. We emailed him and he got right back to us with a quote of $80 for a complete re-bottom and $13 for shipping. When he received them he emailed right away and stated he would have them a week. That turned out to be true and he promptly shipped them back better than new with new Vibram soles. While there is a glue line showing, we were completely expecting that, and we think the workmanship was excellent. Most of all, we have confidence these won't strand us in the wilderness. Prior to this we did not know that most of the famous brands should have the sole replaced by the 5th year. Asolo also reminds on their site that this 5 years may include a couple of years of sitting in the shop unsold. 5 stars to Dave and his crew for coming through for us with flying colors. read more

Great Work, Terrible Customer Service Dave just did a pair of boots for me. The work was very well executed, however the service was horrible. I sent Dave the original box (that I have stored the boots in for years) and received them back, crammed into a US Mail Priority Shipping Box. When I called Dave today to ask about getting the box back, he told me "Its long gone" and didn't really care about the situation. It you want great boot repairs, this is the guy. I sent in my 10 year old Birkenstocks for a complete rebuild. Customer service was great- I got an email from Dave himself saying he'd received my shoes. have a pair of REI spirit boots that I have worn less than 5 times. The soles were dry rotted and REI suggested I send them to Dave. I sent $89 for them to be resoled and NikWaxed...these boots were in brand new condition. Upon return, the sides of the boots, well above where the new soles are, it looks as if a pack of wild midgets wielding sanders attacked my boots. They are now only good for yard work...they are aesthetically destroyed. When I called to question Dave, he couldn't give a crap. When I said they will most likely end up in my garbage, he simply hung up the phone. He was not the least bit interested in the fact that I was disappointed. What a complete douche bag. I heard about Dave Page on Yelp. There was no oak tree. There were no cookies. There wasn't even anyone under 5' tall. No pointy hats. I had to go out and look at the sign again. Yep right place. Lots of old shoes. But do I trust them with my friends that I bought with summer job money in 1972 that have taken me through the bottom of the Mohave Dessert to the top of Mt Rainier; through the jungles and the rain forests and deep into 14 National Parks. Thousands of miles on my motorcycle and hundreds of miles of wilderness. They took the next step for me and then the next when I just couldn't muster another for myself. And here I am ready to hand them over and not a curly-toed felt slipper to be seen . . . I don't know if there is a Dave. It wasn't obvious. But the guy behind the counter knew his stuff and thoroughly checked the viability of my old friends before recommending a second life. "You don't see these very often anymore. You've taken good care of them all this time. It'll take $75 to bring them back but they will last you another 30 years." I could have spent the money toward some boots that weighed half as much made with the latest man made materials. But these are family. I've spent more time with these boots than anyone I know. They can take a crampon and they'll keep your feet dry. They know where to land on the sharp rocks and even took a rattler strike once. After 5 years of sitting in the closet and me resisting tossing them, I took them to the best damn cobbler in the US and they are better than when I bought them. If I was Dave Page, cobbler, my review would be as follows: Two climbing shoes resoled for $37.00. Service was fast. I recommend this business. DP But since I am me, I will ramble a little: Amazingly fast and professional work. I sent my La Sportiva Mythos in after busting through the sole. After 3 days I got an email saying that my shoes had arrived and they would start work the next day. I got them back less than a week later. I got a nice new layer of Vibram XS Grip. These puppies are like-new again. They make me feel, they make me feel so shiny and new... like a virgin, OH! I'm fairly certain that Dave Page wouldn't approve of the Madonna reference. A few people say he is too straight forward. I don't think there should be a such thing as too straight forward. He was fast, efficient, and didn't try to sell me on anything I didn't need. Total price for two shoe resoles and shipping, $37. Best money I have spent in a while. read more

We had a short conversation during which he was very friendly and helpful, and as soon I can I will be sending my Makalus from San Diego, for a resole. I thought for awhile about how to rate this. I mailed in a pair of Italian made EMS boots to DP to be resoled. I didn't hear back for weeks. When I called, he didn't know where they were. It took him a day or so, but he found them. When he emailed me to tell me he found them, he told me they could NOT be resoled, as there was too much wax based waterproofing on the leather already. ...I was unaware that wax based waterproofing created this problem, but apparently it does. Someone needs to tell shoe stores to stop selling mink oil. While I will echo other comments, in that he might benefit by not being so blunt, I wouldn't say he was 'rude' to me. He was just very direct, a bit more direct than most would probably deem appropriate. However, he's the outsource for REI, and is quoted heavily in their articles about shoe conditioning, so he's clearly got skills. I'm just bummed I wasn't able to take advantage of them. I will say, though, he did take the time to answer my questions about why my boots could not be resoled, differences in waterproofing, and he mailed my boots back to me free of charge. Update: I tried them on but hadn't tried climbing in them as I was still breaking in my new shoes. They were unfortunately too big. Rock shoes are no good if they are too big. They will be more comfortable on your feet, but messing around on the wall where you can't get a good grip is not a good feeling. I don't know how that happened, but it did. I called them up and they were not buying my story but told me to come in and bring in my new pair as well. I did and they matched up the pairs and low and behold, they looked bigger. He even checked that they were manufactured as the same size. They took them back and said the rock shoe guy will take a look at them. I will update again once I pick them up and hopefully they fit... ************************************ I hadn't used a cobbler before. I never had shoes that I thought about saving in the past. Usually they would give out and I would figure it's time to get something different. Well, it's a little different with rock climbing shoes. Ladies, if you think breaking in a new pair of heels is difficult.......... try breaking in a new pair of rock climbing shoes! Your toes go numb, the back of your heel develops a giant red sore, and it starts cramping because of the unnatural positioning. Oh wait.... we're reviewing the cobbler, not the painfulness of shoes. Sorry, back to the cobbler. So, I wore through my favorite pair of rock climbing shoes, and I was ready to say good bye and bought a new pair to being the excruciating process of breaking them in when my friend stopped me and told me about Dave Page. I did not believe it at first, but I gave them a call and sure enough, they do repairs (even though I had worn all the way through the leather)! I dropped them off and was told that they would be ready a week later. I had things to do so I picked them up well after the expected date, but I got them back and they are better than new! Broken in, but without the hole in the toe! And I don't have to feel guilty for throwing them out and contributing to the landfill. Win-Win! I took a couple pairs of shoes to Dave Page's shop about a month ago. One was women's below-the-knee, leather boots, and one was men's dress shoes. In hindsight, I should've called and asked him if he does dress shoes, because his website does emphasize "sports footwear and boots," but he had some of the best reviews on yelp, so we decided to go with him. When I got there and showed him the shoes he took one look at both pairs of shoes and just said no. He didn't say "we don't do dress shoes" or "someone else may be able to do it." If one of the shoes didn't look like such a simple repair, I may not have pursued it and I might've just thrown them away! We found another repair shop that was able to fix both pairs without a problem. I do think he could've said more - since he does work in the customer service business. But I could've asked questions. I was just in a hurry that day. I would not go back even for my sports shoes though. read more

What just happened?! These people are so rude it's epic. I couldn't believe them. I came in to pick up my boots. I stood by the pick up/drop off table for a few minutes being completely ignored, although a gal with piercing saw me. I went around the corner and waved at the owner. He ignored me as well. (!) I then approached the girl asking if she could help me. She gave me a deer in the headlights look and said with such a tone as if I was crazy: "Excuse me?!" Then finally came over to tell me with an attitude that they were open until 6:00 and closed now and it is 6:30 already (!) Ok, great, I did not know that. The doors were wide open. There were no signs "Closed". So I was sure the business was still open. Is it just me or the decent thing would be simply to inform a customer walking through your wide open doors that the business is closed? I mean, care to put a sign out? Instead they were all determined to have me stand there for as long as I wanted/had patience for and continue to ignore me.. What?? Oh, and I was picking up shoes that they said it was easy to fix only to call FEW days later to tell me that they couldn't fix it (it was a simple changing of a heel tip, btw). Well, I won't BOTHER them to come in neither after 6pm nor before anymore. And maybe you shouldn't either. read more

From Yelp, it seems Dave is go-to guy for sports footwear. THE REPAIRS: - A pair of La Sportiva Nagos that had a split in the toe area. He recommended a half resole, and special repair for the split. - A reheel of leather boots, where the previous repaired heels (from Emerald City Shoe Repair... don't go there) had just fallen off within a month PRICE: - $37+tax for ONE pair of climbing shoes. I brought up the other reviewer who said he got two pairs resoled for that price, but it must have been a typo. Dave didn't think anyone would do the job for that low. Compare to $100+ for new shoes. - $20+tax for the boots PARKING: There's paid 2 hour parking and a free 30 minute loading zone in front of the shop. QUALITY: Happy customer overall! read more

Dave does it. Dave Page's shop used to be (maybe still is) the outsource for boot repairs brought in to REI. His shop is the only place in Seattle that'll touch my squirrelly Italian alpinist boots. He has rebuilt my Birkenstocks slides & light-hikers too. He has the supply chain to get the right soles and the expertise to make sure the repairs come off without a hitch. Dave's shop is expensive and he's kind of a pain in the ass, but I've never found my trust in him or his apprentices misplaced. read more

I took a rock shoe in because I heard Dave does good work, but good work is no excuse for the attitude. He seemed to think I should have brought both of my rock shoes in even though I only needed one replaced. I almost felt like bringing in my other shoe just to show him how great the rand is on that shoe. Here's the problem with bad customer service. If he does a great job, then I MAY come back. If he doesn't then I probably won't. And if he gets so much work it doesn't matter to him, then more power to him. Strange place. I took in two jobs. My boots came back with new heels, ahead of schedule at a good price. The second job was to sew two straps where they were buckled together and marked with ink. An employee glued and sewed them together with one end upside down. Another employee thought this was fine and the owner told me "In your opinion" it was wrong. After seven trips to his store to straighten this out Dave offered no concern that the situation upset me. They're competent with the simple stuff, but there are too many other shoe repair places in town to put up with the arrogance in this place. read more

3 strikes and your out. First time I sent my boots the shoe laces he sent me didn't even fit the eyeholes on my boots. really 30 years and you can't match up shoelaces. also the toe of my boot the glue did not hold 100% and there was a small area not glued. he did not message me when it was shipped after I got a verification that it did ship, I had to hound him once again for a tracking #. the final strike occurred just recently I e-mailed him to make sure he was still open and was told there was a 2 week turnaround time. Well what happened was I sent my boots in 3 weeks latter I have to hound him to respond to me. turns out he had been sitting with his thumb up his but for 2 solid weeks. He did not call me he did not email me. When I confronted him about it he, the business owner called me a moron. So he didn't feel like repairing my boots so instead of actually performing the minimal amount of customer service he was ignoring me his plan was to throw my boots in the trash. What the other reviews say about this man is true he is an old glue sniffing hermit who no doubt has suffered sever brain damage from his occupation. take your business any where else but this fool.
