We had two of Chef Daveed's team -- Esmerelda and Edgar -- come prepare meals for our family reunion of 12 people on two different nights of our trip, and perhaps it was the best food we had the whole week (and we had a lot of great food.) First off they were very warm and friendly people. Secondly, they were able to improvise with the kitchen and tools available at our rental house and not miss a beat. Thirdly, they are both talented chefs and made stellar meals. Oh, and I should mention that when they left, our leftovers were organized and packed away in the fridge and the whole place was spotless. We hired Daveed Chef Service to prepare 4 dinners during our family's visit to Puerto Morelos. They were amazing from start to finish. We were 8 adults and 5 very young grandchildren. Chef Daveed provided all the necessary information before we got there and responded quickly to questions. We had Chef Luiz and Marianna prepare the meals. They were outstanding. They came in, set the table, answered our questions, prepared amazing food, gave us suggestions on what dishes to order for our remaining meals and left the kitchen spotless. The food was varied and delicious and watching them prepare it was so interesting. The deserts, prepared by Chef Luis's wife, were also amazing. They were easy going and wonderful to be around and never seemed bother by some of the chaos created by having so many young children around and parents who were in and out of the kitchen. Chef Evalina prepared 4 delicious meals for us on our week long visit. She did the shopping, showed up with prepped meals, cooked the food en casa, served us, and cleaned up afterwards. Everything we had was fantastic. She made chicken in a mushroom cream sauce, fish vara cruz, both fish and seafood ceviche, chicken enchiladas, fish tacos, chicken in poblano sauce, fajitas, chili rellenos, guacamole, and the spiciest habanero salsa that I ever craved. For the kids, she made quesadillas, hamburgers, taquitos, meatballs, and rice. The hamburgers were less popular among the under 10 crowd, but I was afraid to put my hand anywhere near the quesadilla plate lest it get chewed off by the wild animals attacking it. Her brownies weren't as sweet as I expected, but I might trade one of my kids for another lemon pie. We had 12 people in our party, and having a private chef turned out to be more cost effective than going out to a restaurant. I couldn't be more happy with the Daveed Chef service we booked for our recent stay in Tulum. Particularly Chef Luis and his partner Samuel provided impeccable service, food and personality over the course of the seven meals prepared for us. Each dish was delicious, fresh, authentic and we could tell it was made with care and craft. Always on time, always flexible, and always very happy to be there. Additionally we asked for Mezcal tasting and while I can't remember the sommelier or bartenders names they were equally a delight and I recommend this service as well! This Chef service is amazing!! Chef Daveed sent Chef Sergio, along with his assistant, who were both extremely kind, and they prepared the most amazing meal. It was our first night in Tulum and this meal was exactly what we needed to start off our trip. They were punctual, prepared and clean and organized. They were also extremely kind (just like everyone else we met on this trip). We wanted more traditional Mexican food rather than an upscale meal that are typically offered in Tulum restaurants and that's exactly what we got. Everything was just so fresh and amazing! We hired Chef Daveed's chef services for our week long trip to Akumal based on the many glowing reviews we saw on Yelp. You should know that this is a service and Chef Daveed does not personally prepare the dishes but instead you are assigned a personal chef who prepares the dishes. You are instructed to choose between 5 and 6 dishes per meal from a fixed menu though personal requests can be accommodated. We had high expectations after our last chef experience in Mexico and the $3k price tag for our week long stay (including breakfast, lunch and dinner). We expected restaurant quality cuisine and service but were disappointed on both fronts. To be sure, some of the dishes we had were excellent, especially the soups and tamarind salsa. But many others were simply okay and some were a complete disappointment - like when our "chef" served us frozen "Eggo" waffles for breakfast accompanied with generic faux maple syrup or the cheap tortilla chips we were routinely served or the salads accompanied with cheap store-bought italian dressing. Some special requests turned out well - like the carnitas tacos (though they were missing the restaurant quality flare we'd hoped for) but others did not - like when we requested chocolate lava cake (which was featured on the specialty menu) and instead got a store bought iced chocolate cake. We did find Chef Daveed to be responsive to some of our initial feedback, which included missing dishes, no welcome cocktail as requested (and paid for) and our chef's near constant personal phone conversations in our villa (on speaker phone). But he still charged us for an extra dish at the end of the week (despite the fact that we had communicated with him about the numerous missing dishes on our menu). As the week progressed, our chef began to offer more personal touches, like offering afternoon cocktails and smoothies, which we would expect with this type of service. We do not fault him for our experience as Chef Daveed ultimately bears the responsibility for adequately preparing and supporting his staff in their roles, a responsibility he is clearly struggling with as evident by our experience. read more

We hired this service for a week stay in Playa Del Carmen. We had a total of 7 meals (4 breakfasts and 3 dinners). Chef Nahum and his assistant Carolina went above and beyond from prepping to cleanup (they cleaned up the kitchen better than the actual maid!). All the meals were excellent with beautiful presentations. It was better than any 5 star restaurant in town in my opinion. Everyone kept "mmmming" with every bite. And, yes, even the kids (4 and 7) that we were with loved the food and the chef ensured that some of the items were kid friendly. There were plenty of leftovers after every meal that it kept us full the entire week. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to hire a chef in this area. First I want to open up with I've given bad reviews in the past but never only given just one star but since this was during our vacation and the amount of stress I was put under I have to give them one star. I hired Chef Daveed for 2 nights based on the wonderful reviews. On our first night in Akumal he was supposed to show up by 4:30 to start cooking, me and our Friends had traveled all day. They didn't show up till 2 hours later, and it wasn't Chef Daveed it was 2 of his Employees they were super sweet Ladies but the food was just mediocre. The beans were very spicy(I had already requested mild spice)and they had hotdogs in them, the fish had zero flavor, the cilantro sauce was bland the only dish that was good was the empanadas! They also forgot to bring the 2 mixed drinks I had requested. On the last night in town by 5pm they had not arrived so I decided to call Chef Daveed and I requested that they not included the mixed drinks since they did not bring them the first night and because it was our last night and we still had drinks at the house, Chef Daveed went off on me screaming over the phone when I tried to explain to him that he should not be upset since his Employees had already forgotten the drinks the first night. He wasn't having it and the phone either disconnected or he hung up on me, needless to say his Employees were again late for the service we already expected that, but the food was even worse then the first night. The Veracruz Fish was covered by vegetables and under the vegetables I think there was 3 small chunks of fish, hardly enough for 8 Adults, the lettuce in the salad had brown leaves in it, the chorizo in the sopes had rocks in it my husband almost broke a tooth, same hotdog beans, the only thing good was the enchiladas(but we found bones in them as well). So over all I give the dinners a 4 but because the Chef was so rude and so unprofessional on the phone with me and because he didn't even bother to give me up front notice that he would not be cooking the meals(sent a email the day of the first meal) and because he did give his Employees my phone number so they could at least call or text me telling me they were running late, as a Professional Chef he advertises himself as, I gave him 1 star. When on vacation the last thing you want to have to do is listen to a screaming Chef!! His Employees were very sweet and totally Professional they did Apologize for being late did a fabulous job cleaning up so we did tip them 20%. It's not the Ladies fault for not being trained currently in food preparation and for having to work for a Self Centered Unprofessional Chef run the other way, don't hire this guy all he will do is spoil your Vacation!! read more

It was delicious, and by far the best meal we ate on our vacation. Francisco and Sergio were fun, engaging and funny. We used Daveed Chef Service for a birthday party in Tulum for breakfast and dinner and we were thrilled with the results. The food was delicious and Chef Manuel and Carmen were great. They did a fantastic job and were very friendly. Chef Manuel's churros were seriously one of the best things I think I've ever eaten. He served them with ice cream and taking the last bite of that dessert was kind of sad, knowing it was about to be all gone. We were discussing margaritas and Chef Manuel offered to get all of the supplies to make them and then showed us how to replicate his recipe. We hired Chef Daveed and his team for a bachelorette party in Tulum and it was definitely the hit of the trip! They were so accommodating creating the same dish but vegan and gluten free for 3 of our party of 11. Everyone absolutely loved the food! It was so fresh and there was so much of it too. We hired Daveed Chef Service to provide meals during our stay at a villa in Tulum for the week, and we were not disappointed! Chef Gabriela and her assistant Yeremy did a fantastic job providing us breakfast/brunch each morning and dinner three evenings during the week. All of the sauces were wonderful, the fruit was sweet and plentiful, and three of our favorites were chicken enchiladas Verdes, Chipolte Meatballs, and Beef Chili Rellenos. It was so nice to not have to worry about cooking for ourselves or finding a place to go out and eat every day. I would highly recommend them if you are renting a home in this area. We had more food than we could eat each morning which gave us leftovers throughout the day to munch on. Preparations were all fresh and well prepared. They brought all of the groceries (plus some extras that we asked for), cooked, cleaned up after, and stored all leftovers in containers in the refrigerator. The food was wonderful -- we did one breakfast, complete with fresh squeezed orange juice they squeezed at our place, and a dinner complete with flan for desert. We used chef Daveed for a private dinner in our airbnb for 5 people while we were on vacation in tulum. Overall the food was amazing. Daveed helped us pick a menu and was very fast with his response time. He was also very flexible with us as we had to change the date and the location from playa del Carmen to tulum. The chef that cooked for us was chef Manuel. He spoke great English and was very personable. It was fun to watch him and his assistant Carmen cook everything from scratch. Our rental home didn't have much in way of pots or pans but they totally made it work and everything looked beautiful. The food was so good we asked for cooking tips and recipes which they were happy to share with us. The best part was at the end of the night they even cleaned the dishes and left the kitchen looking better than it did before they arrived! The final cost for dinner for 5 people was around $200 plus tip. Totally worth the cost. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be calling them. read more

Both times Daveed's chefs Gustavo and Gabriela came to our house and it was so fun to have them cooking in our kitchen while we enjoyed our drinks and watched them work. Both meals were totally different... best salsas ever, wonderful chicken mole, shrimp tostadas... We had leftovers for the next day too! While we did enjoy several great meals in Tulum as well, Daveed and his team delivered not only a total deal for our group of 6 (much more affordable than dinner out for our group, given that we had our own booze!), but wonderfully authentic food as well.
