This is supposed to be the Big Kahuna out of the Davenport family green markets/farms located in Stone Ridge. Yes it's much bigger, yes it has organic items in a supermarkety feel, yes it houses a weekly Flea Market, has hot foods and of course, fresh produce. The produce here is smaller in quantity than what I'm used to and costs a bit more than my fave spot in Westchester Cty. Call me crazy, I've been trying to find a duplicate greenhouse/fresh market in my neck of the woods and surrounding areas similar to what I've grown to love while living in Westchester County. But I haven't. It's not them, It's me. I like to discover new items I might not otherwise find elsewhere- but I love more shopping for all my produce under one roof. Service is great. Produce is fresh though.

And now that we live in town, Sunfrost F. still remains our occasional go-to on for plants, produce, prepared foods, some cheeses and other grocery items. As an added bonus, Sunfrost F. has an attached café where you can order a sandwich, smoothie and other light bites. Once you're inside, Sunfrost is a treasure trove. Heck, I even found a papaya and mangoes which I bought one of each! The shelves are well-stocked and to make matters even better, depending on the prepared sides, salads, etc- are made with some of the vegetables that are grown and sold here. Zafars is a hidden gem literally. The road to get here it's right next to the U-Haul store. I probably have driven past this road 1000 times and never even knew that a place like this existed at the end of a uneven paved street. What an amazing place located in new Windsor. I had no idea that this place existed. A family member told me about this place and I have to try it. They have bulk quantity of everything from eggs to French fries and they even have a deli counter. The building itself looks to be fairly new construction. Overall I almost don't want to yelp this place because I don't want too many people to know about it. But places like zafars deserve recognition. I will 100% be back here. Wright's Farm in Gardiner is exactly that kind of place. Established in 1904, this beautiful family farm offers an incredible selection of fresh produce, delicious baked goods, homemade jams, honey, pickles, breads, plants, and so much more. I was especially impressed by their greenhouse operation, which includes both hydroponic and aquaponic growing systems. They grow fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and strawberries right on the property using innovative growing methods. The farm itself is beautiful, with apple and peach orchards, fields of wildflowers, and plenty of seasonal produce. There's also a great selection of perennial plants for anyone looking to add something new to their garden. And there's even a brewery right on the property, making Wright's Farm more than just a place to pick up groceries. It's a destination to explore, shop, eat, drink, and enjoy the beauty of the Hudson Valley. From the incredible selection of locally produced foods to the beautiful landscape and innovative farming practices, Wright's Farm was definitely a highlight of our visit. We've been getting amazing apples and stone fruit from the Maynard farms at the Williamsburg…read morefarmers market for years. But last fall, we had an experience at the orchard itself that we will never forget. We had the best day walking for hours around the beautiful orchard and picking apples. On the way back to the car with our big bag of fruit we realized that neither of us had the key to the car! It must have dropped at some point in the orchard. We were doomed! There was no way we were going to find a small car key within the fields. We walked around for a while looking and gave up we were about to call for a tow. Then we came upon one of the farmers driving the tractor, and showed him the only picture we had taken that entire day. He looked at it for a few seconds and went off in search of the key. 10 or 15 minutes later, we saw him calling for us in the distance. As we got closer, we saw him laughing and shaking his head - amazingly, he had found the needle in the haystack, and we were saved! That day we also got to meet his daughter and grandson, who were taking a ride on his tractor through the orchard and picking apples of their own. Maynard's apples and stone fruit worlds above any of the others we can find in the area, and we stock up every Saturday. But in addition to the quality of the fruit, the farmers are all so nice and always let you taste what's in season before you purchase. And after this experience, it was clear to us that Maynard farms is truly family and community-oriented organization, and made us even happier to buy our fruit from them every week. Last year, they had the BEST warm apple cider donuts - and their hot apple cider was the real deal, not that watered-down stuff you get everywhere else. It was the perfect combo for a chilly autumn day. I was really looking forward to making Dressells Farm a regular weekday stop this fall for that specific treat, but it's a shame they only offer it on weekends. Hopefully, they'll consider offering the hot cider and fresh donuts every day next year so more people can enjoy them!
