    Strawberries!

Dressel's never disappoints. This is my family's go-to. Perfect place to go apple picking (get the honey crisps!), eat apple cider donuts, drink apple cider, and have a real Hudson Valley experience. Right now they have a bunch of varieties of strawberries to choose from. They are so small, sweet, and juicy. There's nothing like farm-fresh fruit!

After much research, my family and I decided to visit Dressel Farms for our first time ever apple picking excursion. Upon arrival, we immediately noticed and appreciated how this farm is not commercialized. It still manages to maintain a great family-owned feel and everyone we came across was so warm. Even though we came the last week of apple picking season, we were able to pick a good amount of apples. Overall we were very pleased with the farm and will return next year!

I came on a Sunday afternoon and it was not that busy at the time. There was just a few farm animals (2 goats, 2 bunnies, a few roosters and hens...and a family dog ). There wasn't an admission fee or parking issues. Their strawberries and raspberries were delicious. They sell ice cream in their fridge so you can enjoy eating it under the shade on their park bench.

Dressel Farms is a MUST visit when travelling up to the New Paltz area. Since going to college, this was on of my favorite places to be when fall hit the Hudson region. If you're like me and love everything Fall: apple-picking, cider donuts, fresh cold/hot cider, leaves changing and that brisk flannel/scarf weather...go here for the full experience. This orchard being one of the bigger and more popular farms, has a lot to offer. There's a few farm animals for the kids. I remember seeing chickens, ducks, turkeys, bunnies and more. I'm not sure if you can pet them, but they're cute too look at! They also have a little kiosk where you can get your bucket to start filling with apples. Compared to grocery stores, they're honestly not THAT much more expensive. The price per lb. escapes me... sorry I'll make a note of it next time! The orchards are absolutely beautiful. They have a wide variety of apples: gala, honeycrisp, golden, empire, etc. When you walk a bit further you'll hit the view. It's breath-taking. Seeing the mountains and the "country-side" if you will is something that I miss when at home. Their prime apple-picking seasons are in September in October. I would highly recommend more towards the first or second week in Oct. Being that they will have ripe apples but still enough on the trees to pick. They also have a hayride to bring you around the grounds. They're big enough that you can do this. I would also hit up the spiked apple cider stand. Delicious. And last but not least... my favorite place to go is the barn filled with fresh fruit, honey, pumpkins, pies, maple syrup and HOMEMADE APPLE CIDER DONUTS. I LIVEEE for these in the fall. I think this is the main reason why I look forward to this season. They're not only fresh but fluffy and perfectly coated with sugar. Get the freshly pressed cider too. It's right on par. So make sure to grab a bucket, munch on an apple and sip on some cider. This local family-owned business will be sure to put a smile on your face.

Excellent farm with amazing views. Apple picking was great with tons of Macintosh, Cortland, and Gala apples...the varieties available to pick vary by week. They had hayrides, flower picking, cider tasting, animals, etc...plenty to keep you busy and entertained. The apple cider donuts here are some of the best I've ever had, especially if you eat them while they're nice and hot! The apple cider is also excellent. The store also sells apples, pumpkins, butternut squash, local honey, and other goods. Can't wait to come back.

Now that we're living in The Catskills, my quest to find that similar market prototype I grew to love in Westchester, continues. I had forgotten hubs and I came here before during one of our bi-annual trips to The Catskills. Recently though, when I searched for produce markets near work in Highland, Wallkill View in New Paltz popped up within a short driving distance. As you drive past all of New Paltz bustling shops and restaurants on Main St, you'll soon approach a sleepy farmland area overlooking Mohonk Preserve in about 5 or so minutes. I've been hard-pressed to find a market that tops my favorite one in Westchester and checks all the boxes. Wallkill View grows and sells a nice mix of produce the area has to offer. And when veggies and fruit aren't grown on-site or in season, they're sourced from elsewhere. Unlike other farm markets that operate only Sat+Sun, Wallkill V. is open everyday. Well...almost. These folks shut down for Christmas and throughout the winter- reopening in March. Prices are about $1 more than what I paid down in White Plains- but hey... I get it. Service is great though.

Walking inside, it's a different experience at Wright's Farm. This visit, I want to buy a bottle of local wine and some local cheese then go back to the hotel. I noticed towards the back, I see a wall of homemade jams. And they're all packaged in these cute mason jars! Strawberry Jelly is a must but then we went a little nutzo with a few more jam flavors as well as homemade apple sauces, fresh cheeses and pickles! Sunday, its check out time and we're heading back to Long Island after breakfast. My wife said we need to go shopping for dinner today. I said, Let's go back to Wright's Farm and pick up dinner? And this was the highlight of our trip. In the cold cases, I see homemade ravioli, one of the stuffings was corn? I had plans to stop in The Bronx and get a few boxes of Raviolis. I gambled and said lets try their corn ravioli. O.M.G. This ravioli was fantastic! My wife made it with fresh sage from our herb garden. It was a little pricey but it was better than anything I had this year. For the week, we bought a large ham steak and a ham hock for pea soup. I saw something interesting, a black futsu squash? I told my wife, lets buy one and take a chance. Amazing! My wife cooked this squash and it came out deelish. Dessert? My sons inhaled the apple cider doughnuts we bought home for them. Wright's Farm, it was a pleasant surprise to discover your local farmstand.
