Do not recommend. I went in for a simple trim, but the barber spent the entire time ranting about politics and pointing at the massive Trump sign in the window instead of paying attention to my hair. I've been going to Dave's since Dave. I remember when Sherri was apprenticing back in the day and she is a great barber learning all the techniques from Dave who was a master barber. That was over 20 years ago. If you don't like conservative politics you may want to steer clear. I've seen some snowflake reviews criticize Sherri for her politics that she believes strongly in. I'm not crazy about having Fox News in my ear while getting a cut but it's her shop and her rules. Love it or leave it. She's a good barber. read more

My husband went there without a recommendation and was really surprised. Sherry did a great job on his haircut and guess what - there were no stray hairs left on his shirt from the cut. I had been looking for a good barber shop in the area, and this one fits the bill! It's run by one lady: Sherry. If you're wondering, it's called Dave's Barber Shop because she bought it from Dave, and she decided to keep the name. She's very friendly and she'll give you a high quality hair cut. She'll take her time and make sure you're really satisfied with it. She only accepts cash so be sure to bring some. I showed up a little after 6:00 on a week night. It's nice that she's open until 7 during the week. Otherwise I'd have to come in on Saturday since I work 9-5. This is a great barber. First off, you won't see a sign that says "Dave's Barber Shop". In fact, I'm not really sure why it's called that, seeing as how the woman behind the chair is named Sherry. But I've seen it called that in other reviews on other review sites (Google Maps, for instance), so we'll stay with it. But I digress. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon without an appointment. Even with only Sherry cutting hair, I still only waited about twenty minutes or so before being seen to. Not a tremendously busy place the afternoon I went in, which is good. The decor is vintage, old school barber shop. Glass cabinet, brushes, etc...this is not a hair salon, this is an honest to God barber shop. Thank God. They were in the midst of some renovations at the time, so the place wasn't as organized as it might have been, however, it was still very pleasant to wait. The chairs are rather worn, but were still quite comfortable, and they had an LCD tuned to the Masters; I'm not a golf fan, but it was still very cathartic just sitting there. Sherry herself is very pleasant, a middle aged woman who is still very attractive and a perfect balance between motherly and friendly. She chatted with her customers and with some of the other people there (a few other guys were there. Her husband? A friend? The mysterious 'Dave'? I don't know, but certainly regulars) amicably the whole time; never to where I felt like I was being forced to converse, but never left in stony silence, either. As to the haircut itself; phenomenal. I went looking for a good barber after growing sick of the corporate chains I tried (and received extremely sub-par haircuts at), and I've found it. She asked for more input than I've been asked for even at hair 'stylists', and when I expressed that I didn't know, and essentially gave her free reign, she did a wonderful job. She even pulled out the straight razor for a few areas! You -will- pay a bit more for it; the costs I've had at chains was more like $14-16, and this was $18 (children are less, I think $12? Wasn't really paying attention to that), however, if you want a -good- haircut, in a pleasant, friendly establishment, and SE Scottsdale is convenient for you, this place is highly recommended. read more

Call me old-fashioned, but to me common human decency and even better, some degree of customer empathy, should still be a part of running a barber shop. I showed up there at 1p this Sat (well within stated operating hours). Before I go on, a little background: I've been to this shop one time before. That time I called the day before asking when they opened. When I was told 8am, I asked if I could make an appointment for the next day (I start work at 9am). She said, just be the first one here. That didn't seem very customer oriented (plus, I was a little turned off by a Yelp! review that talked about her strong political views, but I figured that shouldn't matter if she was a good barber). Anyway, I decided to give being "the first one there" one shot the next day. As it turned out, I was the first (and only) one there. I got my haircut and listened to her one-sided political views and personal problems. So, back to today's story. When I showed up, there was a customer in the chair and the barber was cutting his hair, but the Open neon sign wasn't lit. I thought to myself, maybe she just didn't turn the "Open" light on (it was a bright, sunny afternoon). When I got to the door though, I noticed there was a "Closed" sign on it. OK, maybe for some reason she was closing early that day, but since my hand was practically on the door knob, I decided to try it. It was locked, but the patron in the chair gave me a smile and put his hand up, which I interpreted to mean, "just a minute." (Mind you, the last time I was at this shop, the door was locked also, when I tried it. She explained, being the only one there and an older woman, she took extra safety precautions.) When the barber looked at me, she also smiled and sort of waved, then turned back to her customer. Now I wasn't sure if she was saying, "wait a minute," but it certainly didn't look like, "sorry, I'm closed." So, I stood at the door waiting. I kinda assumed one way or the other, she would come to the door to let me know what was going on. Mind you, the two of them were no more than 4 feet from the door. When she didn't come to the door in the first minute or two, I thought it was strange that she would have her next customer stand outside waiting, but I've never seen more than two people (1 customer and barber) in the shop at a time, so maybe that was just one of her safety precautions. So, I stood there for the 20 or so minutes for her to complete the haircut. She and her patron swept the floor and cleaned the chair, before opening the door. The first thing out of the patron's mouth as he sort of pushed his way past me was, "she's closing." WTF!! They couldn't give me the common courtesy of letting me know she was closing? There's nothing else near the storefront. There's no other reason for me to be standing there. In fact, they did know exactly why I was standing there, since that was the first thing out of their mouths. I was livid!! Obviously, I will NEVER go back there again. I would have left a 1-star rating because she doesn't seem to care about her customers, but I admit, she did give me a good haircut the first time around. I moved to Scottsdale in 2008, and I had to find a new barber. I tried 4 different barbers in the first year and a half and didn't go back to any of them more than twice. I was never happy with the first cut, but figured they might have been having a bad day so I gave them all a second chance. They all flunked out. I just happened to see the barbershop sign at Dave's and decided to give it a try. I was surprised to find that it was a female barber named Sherry. I told her how I wanted it cut (as I was told by the barber I had used in the state I had moved from) and she gave me the best haircut I have ever had. I have been going to her now for over 5 years and she has yet to give me a bad cut. Now to be frank, she does charge more than the other barbers that I had tried in Scottsdale, but she is a classically trained barber, and you get what you pay for. She has a legion of regulars of all ages, so that just shows you how good she is. She is a little eccentric (I happen to like that), and very friendly and the equipment she uses is always sanitary and she keeps the shop clean all the time. Since she is the only barber in the shop, it is a good idea to call first to make sure she is there. She sometimes has to close during the regular posted business hours. But I strongly recommend her, and have done so to anyone that has asked me to recommend a barber. I have gotten numerous comments on the great way my hair looks after she has cut it. sherry used to be good but now she cant cut hair to save her life. i told her i didnt want it short on the sides and yet she cut it almost down to just the skin. she was using a razor to straighten up the sides and accidentally shaved off a piece of my eyebrow and then laughed and said it looked cool. she still charged me full price of $20. i will never go back to her again. she is the worst barber in arizona. she takes her sweet time which is almost 40 mins of her barely cutting hair and only talking about how much she hates obama and that her son is a loser. read more
