Dave's Dawgs is a small pop-up, family owned and operated restaurant that seems to "pop up" at many events in the greater Sacramento area. For all hot dog lovers and "foodies" any event where Dave sets up shop is a joyous occasion, as Dave's Dawgs serves some of the best dogs all around. It's a little past 09:00 in the morning, Saturday, October 08, 2022, and I'm enjoying the "Lincoln Airport Open House," thanks to the City of Lincoln, CA, and it's time to enjoy a "Bratwurst Dog" at Dave's Dawgs, who had set up their pop-up restaurant to cater to this aviation event. The restaurant began setting up shop at the 07:30 opening time of the event, and was in business and grilling/steaming amazing hot dogs by around 08:30 or so. As soon as the restaurant opened, a line of hungry hot dog lovers formed... Lincoln "fly-in" attendees have good taste when it comes to fine airport cuisine! What could be better than an airport "open house" and quality hot dogs, served by friendly staff? After opening the pit, I asked the chef if I could take photos of the dogs cooking. All of the dogs on the menu looked simply amazing... how could I decide? ... I asked her for her recommendation, and she said "Bratwurst Dog," so that's what I went with. After receiving my "Bratwurst Dog" from the chef, it was time to head over to the condiment bar... maybe a yard away. You can dress your dog with dill relish, sauerkraut, pickled jalapeño pepper slices, mustard or ketchup. The slot for diced onions was empty, which was a slight disappointment, but since this dog was so juicy and amazing, the onions weren't really missed. After agonizing over the menu - all dogs were amazing - I went with "Bratwurst," after asking the pitmaster for her recommendation. What a dog! The quarter pound bratwurst hot dog was perfectly grilled and steamed - Placer County guidelines - thanks to the skill of the chef and pitmaster. The dog was served on a large, fresh, chewy bun, with just the right bun-to-dog ratio which is crucial to a good hot dog, or bratwurst dog. One bite into the bratwurst I was rewarded with a crisp S-N-A-P! ... thanks to the natural casing... and a "rush" of juicy, goodness flavor, that only comes from a perfectly cooked, and perfectly made quality bratwurst. The flavor of this bratwurst was "absolute superlative" good... Simply said, if you're a "foodie" and you love a delicious, quality bratwurst, Dave's Dawgs should be your restaurant of choice. I dressed my dog with diced, pickled jalapeño pepper slices, mustard - naturally - along with dill relish and sauerkraut. Too bad the condiment bar was out of diced white onion, but my "Bratwurst" was standalone delicious, so dressing was simply an enhancement to the amazing "Bratwurst Dog" I enjoyed on the mid Saturday morning. One bite into Dave's bratwurst will make a believer out of you that Dave's Dawgs serves an amazing hot dog, of any variety, at any occasion. Look for Dave's Dawgs at special events over the greater Sacramento area, and enjoy his delicious dogs, served by friendly staff. read more

The lines were stupid and the customer service was nonexistent..... After waiting in line for 25min the main guy started a new line for lemonade without even considering the 20 people in the existing line....it was also taken forever to make 1 lemonade the employees seemed to be clueless... I will never waste my time with them again.... read more

I had been driving by Dave's Dawgs and finally tried it out. I asked for Dave's Dawg hot dog. On the photo it was a hot dog with mustard, ketchup, onions and tomatoes. What I received was an old hot dog, with some nasty looking jelly. I was told he was their chili...this was the WORST hot dog I have every tried...I will never return. So disappointing!!! How could you mess up a hot dog? I should have known their not doing so well, I was their only customer at about 1pm in the afternoon...save your money!!! read more

I finished some light shopping @ AAFES( old McClellan AFB Base Exchange) and decided to grab a quick snack from the food court. Noticed Dave's Dawgs and ordered myself the Chicago Dog. My server grilled my fresh hotdog and put on all the fixings. The dog was great! It was grilled just right, fresh tomatoes, onions, and pickles. This just may be my new grub spot! Got a hot link today from Dave's Dawgs who happened to be catering an event I went to. Hot link had the perfect amount of kick and snap. Good snap is essential. Nice assortment of toppings and condiments. Bread was soft --WIN. The three others who were with me were all happy with their hotdogs and the two young fellas working the stand were pretty friendly. $4 for a Hebrew national dog which can be had for $1.50 with a drink at Costco. I don't know what got into me, I should have known better. I should have got in the car and headed straight to Costco. Dave's feels like a "take the money and run" kind of business. I definitely will never fall for it again. read more

We were out at Out of Bounds Brewery on Sunday and Dave's Dawgs happened to be the food vender. After a few beer tastings the cravings for something salty set in so my fiance and I decided to check out their menu. I got the Pineapple Sausage and he got the Bratwurst (both $4 each). The Pineapple Sausage was sweet, juicy and had small chunks of pineapple inside. I thought it tasted great. Dave's Dawgs offers a small variety of quality specialty dogs and more condiments than your average hot dog stand. My fiance discovered the jalapeno mustard along with some other spicys. The condiments were fresh, sausages good and buns were soft. The vender was friendly and helpful in pointing out the different sauces. If you are looking for mobile sausage then Dave's Dawgs is the place to be, if your looking for something other than sausage, there are a lot more mobile options in Sacramento. read more

Again, 3 STARS - NOT A BAD RATING! These guys are great. The woman is exceptionally sweet and efficient with her cart. She's usually conveniently right outside my office building and her prices are the BEST!! I have been on the search for an epic hotdog though and have yet to find it. I ordered the Chicken Mozzarella dog to try it...it was DELICIOUS but keep in mind it's not your normal Bratwurst flavor so you have to dress it differently. I also tried the "caramelized onions" and though they were sweet, and also were diced onions...I would pass in the future on this concoction. I don't know if it's a sauce added to the onions or what...but not what I was expecting. (I was hoping to get a Bacon Wrapped Hotdog, and that the onions would be caramelized in the BACON grease! ...I have I expectations...I realize that now. hahahha) I also saw a sign that says Bacon and Cheddar dogs...and thought YES!! Bacon Wrapped Hot DOG!! WHAT!?! ... not the case. It's FRESH bacon, but just bacon bits. :( A great hotdog stand, good prices, and good service... but not my favorite. I wouldn't bet on this blowing your mind, but if you must have a decent hot dog and find yourself near the Capitol, this cart will hit the spot. Food: Sounds like Dave caters, but I'm familiar with his dawgs from the cart operated by an older woman on N and 9th. Calling these dogs gourmet would be a bit of a stretch, but it looks like they're making an effort. For instance, you have the option of adding caramelized red onions for free! They also have tons of yummy sauces, diced white onions, and relish with which you can judiciously (or not) dress up your dog. The dogs come in several forms such as bratwurst, veggie, pineapple sausage, and my pick, the chicken sausage (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/daves-dawgs-sacramento#n63Pwaq3O0F6v3-2W4Ex8Q). Should you opt for the $5 meal, you will also get chips and a drink along with the dog. Not a bad deal! Still, I wish they invested in better buns and that they grilled the dogs on the spot rather than keeping them warm in murky hot dog water. I wonder if sidewalk barbecuing is illegal and, if it's not, if they could please start doing that for me. On second thought, I'm pretty sure the Air Resources Board would not be ok with this. Atmosphere: There are two kinds of people, those who would willingly buy a hotdog from a cart on a street corner and those who just don't know how to live. Make sure you are in the former category. Service: The woman wielding the tongs seemed like she was having difficulty. As a result, there were a couple moments where I paused and thought, is this sanitary? The answer is probably no, but I didn't have any intestinal issues after eating the dog and my colon is a veritable canary in a coal mine. The sausages and hot dogs were a little bland and seemed to be just heated versus grilled, which in doing so left the bun a bit soggy. No one likes soggy (that's with an "o" not an "a") buns. read more

Well, not sure what I expected, but it was definitely more than what I got. Two co-workers and I walked over to the "truck" to check out Dave's Dawgs. What we got was a hot dog cart pulled by a truck. OK, I can accept that. I mean, really, some hot dog carts produce some darned good hot dogs! And so did my elementary school on hot dog day! Two of us got bratwurst, and the third opted out because he really wanted a hot link and today Dave's had none. So I'm reviewing the brats. The brat were small...small as in the bun extended about at 1.5" past the brat on each end. The first bite was all bun (but hey...the bun was nice and soft!). The brat was served on a foil-wrapped steamed bun that was not the least bit soggy. There were plenty of condiments with many different selections of mustard (who knew there was that many different mustards!); ketchup, hot sauce, relish, onion, jalapenos, and sauerkraut. I was thinking, "Thank goodness for condiments!" because that brat looked really lonely on that bun. As far as taste, the brat was tasty, but just a bit bland. The brand I buy at my local grocery store, IMHO, is much better and certainly bigger. Again...THANK GOODNESS FOR CONDIMENTS! Overall, I'd say it was just OK. I paid $6.00 for the brat, small bag of chips, and a bottle of water. That equates to $4.00 for the dog, $1.00 each for the chips and water. I gave it an extra star because the dude working the cart was a really nice guy and I felt bad that there were only five of us out there. read more

I was walking around Downtown, looking for some good street food (of which there is a decisively lacking amount in Sacramento) and I stumbled across Daves Dawgs. I talked to the owner for a bit, she said they had 4 locations throughout the county and had been around a while. I decided to get a pineapple dawg, which was quite tastey. I wish they had a more gourmet selection of street food in Sacramento, but this place worked. I'd go back, but I wouldn't run there. read more

Terrible customer service. The lady talks too much and doesn't know that people have short lunches. I wasn't even able to get my food because she couldn't multitask. She was literally standing there talking to one customer until he said he had to go and then continued talking and standing there with the next customer.
