One of my favorite little things about Creekside is that they use random coffee mugs at the tables instead of matching ones. It gives the diner such a homey, personal feel. After my mom passed away in 2018, we brought in 12 light blue coffee mugs that had never been used. On this visit, I happened to spot one of those mugs sitting on a table, and it honestly stopped me for a second. Seeing that one of her mugs is still there eight years later warmed my heart more than I can explain. It felt like a tiny little piece of her was still part of a place that has been part of our family routine for so long. My dad ordered off the senior menu and got his usual Denver omelette. Since he has to watch his carbs because of his diabetes, they're always kind enough to let him substitute the potatoes and toast for cottage cheese and fruit. He's definitely a creature of habit and orders the same thing every time, but he's always happy with it! I decided to go with a grilled ham and cheese sandwich and substituted a side salad for the fries. I loved how much ham they piled onto the sandwich. They definitely don't skimp! The staff is always so friendly and helpful, and you can tell this is truly a neighborhood diner where the locals come regularly. My dad even comes here on his own when I'm not in town. Creekside Diner is more than just a breakfast stop for us at this point. It's part of our Sacramento tradition, and we will always come back whenever I'm in town.

After spending nearly $150, most of the meal ended up in the trash. The biggest problem was the excessive amount of salt. Everything we tasted--except the banana pudding--was overwhelmingly salty. It seemed as though the food had been salted multiple times after frying. The fish, prawns, sides, and even the vegetables were so heavily seasoned that they were virtually inedible. We could only manage a bite or two of most items before having to stop eating them. The kitchen should simply taste the food before it leaves the restaurant because this level of oversalting is impossible to miss. The fried corn on the cob was particularly unpleasant. When I bit into it, a liquid unexpectedly gushed into my mouth. Combined with the mushy texture, it was revolting. Of everything we ordered, that item was by far the most off-putting. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that we genuinely wanted to like this restaurant. Instead, nearly every item we ordered was ruined by poor preparation and excessive salt. Food should be enjoyable, not something customers worry might make them sick. The only item I found edible was the banana pudding, and even that was mediocre. It's a little past 09:00 in the morning, Saturday, October 08, 2022, and I'm enjoying the "Lincoln Airport Open House," thanks to the City of Lincoln, CA, and it's time to enjoy a "Bratwurst Dog" at Dave's Dawgs, who had set up their pop-up restaurant to cater to this aviation event. The restaurant began setting up shop at the 07:30 opening time of the event, and was in business and grilling/steaming amazing hot dogs by around 08:30 or so. As soon as the restaurant opened, a line of hungry hot dog lovers formed... Lincoln "fly-in" attendees have good taste when it comes to fine airport cuisine! What could be better than an airport "open house" and quality hot dogs, served by friendly staff? After opening the pit, I asked the chef if I could take photos of the dogs cooking. All of the dogs on the menu looked simply amazing... how could I decide? ... I asked her for her recommendation, and she said "Bratwurst Dog," so that's what I went with. After receiving my "Bratwurst Dog" from the chef, it was time to head over to the condiment bar... maybe a yard away. You can dress your dog with dill relish, sauerkraut, pickled jalapeño pepper slices, mustard or ketchup. The slot for diced onions was empty, which was a slight disappointment, but since this dog was so juicy and amazing, the onions weren't really missed. After agonizing over the menu - all dogs were amazing - I went with "Bratwurst," after asking the pitmaster for her recommendation. What a dog! The quarter pound bratwurst hot dog was perfectly grilled and steamed - Placer County guidelines - thanks to the skill of the chef and pitmaster. The dog was served on a large, fresh, chewy bun, with just the right bun-to-dog ratio which is crucial to a good hot dog, or bratwurst dog. One bite into the bratwurst I was rewarded with a crisp S-N-A-P! ... thanks to the natural casing... and a "rush" of juicy, goodness flavor, that only comes from a perfectly cooked, and perfectly made quality bratwurst. The flavor of this bratwurst was "absolute superlative" good... Simply said, if you're a "foodie" and you love a delicious, quality bratwurst, Dave's Dawgs should be your restaurant of choice. I dressed my dog with diced, pickled jalapeño pepper slices, mustard - naturally - along with dill relish and sauerkraut. Too bad the condiment bar was out of diced white onion, but my "Bratwurst" was standalone delicious, so dressing was simply an enhancement to the amazing "Bratwurst Dog" I enjoyed on the mid Saturday morning. One bite into Dave's bratwurst will make a believer out of you that Dave's Dawgs serves an amazing hot dog, of any variety, at any occasion.
