2/8/2026 Ate list: Country Fried Steak & Eggs - 9.6 Back in late high school/early college, the original Dave's Diner was open on Perry Square. It was a top 3 breakfast in town for me. I mourned their closing and was hopeful when I heard they would return. But I felt like, there's no way they could measure up to the original. They exceeded my memory. New location embody a throwback and is more spacious than the original. Service was kind and fast. And the country fried steak and eggs was some of the best I've ever had. Every bite was extraordinary. I love this place. Welcome back Dave's. I too will be back. read more

I never heard of this diner until my brother recommended it for lunch today. A nice place in corner of the building in downtown Erie, PA. with a 50's motif. A busy joint but not overcrowded with mostly window seating being in a corner. Our server was a nice young lady with a sense of humor and very attentive. I had the BLT with onion rings, my brother had the cheesy melt (?) sandwich also with onion rings. Everything tasted great and was prepared well and prices were reasonable. Now for my concern - you've probably noticed someone at a restaurant that wasn't like the other quick and friendly staff. This was the young lady acting as our hostess - a sort of disgusted look on her face, frazzled looking and thinking to herself "Oh my God, I'm so busy". All of the other staff were smiling, but not this queen bee. Customers were standing by the register to check out, and folks were coming in to be seated. I'm not sure how she missed us for seating, but bypassed the two of us three (3) times and seated others before us, even though we were clearly in front of others and there first. I wondered "How could this grumpy hostess miss the two of us as we are both six foot plus and built like pro linebackers"? I finally suggested to my brother that we just sit down and we did. The angry hostess then proceeded to walk by and give my brother a dirty look. I said "Don't worry about it, she's not irate with you, she must just hate this job and couldn't wait until her shift was over" - I'm sure you know the type and have ran into this before. I gave the review five stars as I said everything was pleasant and the food was great. I would hate to give a nice place like this a bad review just because of one angry, bitter hostess who hates her job and can't wait for her shift to end! Very cute dinor, decor was done well. In a nice area. First time to this location. I went on a Tuesday for a late breakfast. I was greeted by very friendly and attentive staff. I ordered the basic "The Double" for breakfast, which included 2 eggs, choice of bacon or sausage link's , choice of home fries or hash brown's, along with various toast choices. I figured this would be a good gauge of the restaurant. I ordered eggs over medium, sausage links, hash browns with sourdough toast. I received my meal fairly promptly. I must say, with all the hype over this new dinor, I was not impressed with the food. Portion size was small. Eggs were done well, however they must use small size eggs. I ordered sausage links, only to receive 1 small part of a piece of sausage. I questioned the waitress as to why I only had 1 piece of a small sausage link. She explained that they used to serve two, but then changed to a larger sausage. Therefore, they cut it in half since it was "bigger". It was still smaller than any sausage I've had at any dinor, and I ate it in three bites. I have to say it was good tasting sausage, just the portion was way too small. The hash browns I received were flattened thinner than a pancake and rather skimpy. Usually a breakfast like this is plentiful on the hash browns, but not here. The sourdough toast was toasted well, buttered and tasty. The coffee was good and served hot. I really wanted to like my first experience, but was disappointed in the food. I am still willing to give it one more try, maybe next time I'll order lunch instead. My total bill came to $15 and some change, which I would have been ok with, had it had been a filling breakfast, which it definitely was not. read more

Cute dinor, like stepping back to the 50s. Seated and waited on right away. I had spinach omelet, home fries. Delicious! My friend had greek omelet, asked for more butter for the toast, never got it, couldn't eat her omelet . Server never returned to check on us, never refilled coffee. Had to ask someone someone else for our tab and told her about greek omelet. We weren't charged for it. Also, comped us for parking. read more

Not worth going.they have trouble making toast, can't make decent hashbrowns,serve Italian sausage instead of breakfast sausage. I found an 8 inch long hair in my breakfast bowl. Erie still doesn't have a decent place for breakfast downtown. read more

Don't let the outside appearance steer you away. Dave's is so cute inside. Definitely looks like an old fashioned diner. I ordered the tuna melt, fries and fruit cup. My daughter ordered the pancakes. All of it was SO good. The restaurant was very clean and not very loud too. I thought it was reasonably priced as well. Service was quick and our waitress was friendly. Plenty of parking outside. Bring your quarters though because they aren't credit card meters. read more

I loved this place; visited in September 2021 and hope the closure is temporary. Loved the decor and music. Gave me such a large tuna sandwich that I ate half and took the other half with me. Loved the fresh fruit cup side. read more

Out and about in Erie..In search of a place to eat breakfast and figured you couldn't go wrong with a diner right? Very busy weekend morning service as expected.. no problem. The diner was crowded and took us a few minutes for a waitress to come over which is expected because it was busy. We love "diner" burgers and we're in the mood for a burger so we both ordered a burger and fries. The burger was meh even dressed up with salt and pepper and condiments didn't help. It was a super thin Patty of meat..looked small and cheap. Like a white castle little slider burger? The fries were even worse they had zero taste- very bland. Salt and pepper and ketchup did not help. they could've been in the freezer too long? it tasted like nothing? Maybe this place isn't known for their burgers but for their breakfast? We were not impressed at all with her first visit and left hungry. Two stars sums up our visit. read more

After an early morning appointment in Erie, I was hungry and decided to grab some breakfast before making the 1.5 hour return trip to Cleveland. Much to my surprise was this vintage 50s diner, complete with with white checkered tiles and hanging lights! I was seated immediately and after glancing over the menu, decided on the veggie omelet. The omelet was a fine mix of peppers, mushrooms, cheese, and came with home fries and warm sourdough bread. What a delightful take on a traditional American favorite! If I am ever out in Erie again, I'll definitely make a point of stopping at Dave's! read more

Don't typically give five star ratings. However, we found this little gem on Yelp and couldn't be happier that we stopped by. It's clean, family friendly, and the service was great. The only suggestion I have is that you go hungry, as the portions are HUGE. The other nice thing is it's all priced great - way below what you would pay elsewhere. Needing a quick and early place to grab some grub, we headed to Dave's Diner to be enamored with the car decor. There were car parts hanging from the ceiling while the specials on the board sounded delicious (hello peach filled French toast). We opted to go basic, because we had a hankering for eggs. Only about a five minute drive from the Marriott and since the hotel got poor reviews for breakfast decided to check this place out. Very busy but a short wait and food was delicious! Excellent diner and great atmosphere. Looks as if Guy Fieri might pop out at any moment. Got here before the rush. Had a 3 cheese grilled cheese and their cup of mac n cheese (for breakfast ). Husband had one of their bowls with the most delicious sausage gravy. My only qualm is the fact that I asked for sweet n low/splenda for my coffee 3 times and never received it from our server. read more

Because of the Pandemic, we have only eaten at Dave' Diner twice, but we had excellent food both times. Parking was available out front, and even though it was busy, we were seated right away. The food we ordered ranged from omelettes, to sandwiches, and everyone was very pleased with their choices. Service was very fast with an attentive server. We would go back because of the food and the vintage diner atmosphere! read more

Dave's Diner is great option for breakfast in Erie! It's almost always busy, and there's a good reason. Once we were seated I ordered a mimosa. It was probably the best I've ever had (I know it's only two ingredients but it was really good!). My boyfriend ordered the breakfast bowl with extra meat. He was shocked at how big it was and only ate about half of it. He said it was amazing. I ordered the stuffed French toast special (comes with a side of meat) which was peaches and cream. foods great and fast but today's front staff were all about themselves and it was social hour beyond pale. really bad vibe as patrons sat without menus, drinks. wait staff blew right past us without a glance and we were menu-less. got my own which is never a problem if staff is overwhelmed. crazy - and i'm glad to say unusual but still. wheels were off. our server returned with coffees from somewhere else but still didn't seem to be in our corner. i watched the kitchen put our food in the window and try, to no avail, to get a server to pick it up for a minute or two. all three engrossed in some conversation more important than everything around them. servers should be very attentive yet fade into the background, in my opinion. it's a balance - today they faded away completely. having said that near the end of our meal they sort of figured it out and started working again. we'll be back for sure and would hope management has this serious blip fixed - if it's s blip (whatever a blip is). read more

I'm visiting from NYC and I have to say this was the best omelette I've had in a very long time. The veggies in my omelette where extremely fresh, omelet cooked perfectly, the bread they served was outstanding and the omelet was perfectly folded. Went to try out Dave's Diner Saturday morning . We get there and the host tells us it's a 10-15 min wait. So we go outside and wait 10-15 min and around that time the host comes outside calls us back in by name to tell us our table is ready . At this time a car pulls up in front of us ; and it was someone the host knew, as they walk in before us , he sits them at the only open table "meant for us".. as he makes his way back he tells us we are next and then I ask how much longer he replies "idk that table or that table are looking to be about done" as I look those tables arnt even half way through their food. I asked him to take us off the waiting list and we just left . Don't recommend. read more

I only give it 3 stars. The food was wonderful but the waitresses were not. There were at least 4 of them. We waited to be sitting until they got done talking. Once sited she gave us menus and that's it. Waited more then 5 mins to see if we wanted something to drink. So I am saying you want food from here just order it to go read more

I came in asking for change for the meter out front, the waitress with the glasses today 9/30/19 was complaining about how she had to make 2 more f'n milkshakes for the day. I should of left right then. Took almost 10 mins to get a drink because the waitresses were fighting over who had my table.
