Pineapple Eddie's had been sitting on our "to try" list for probably 4 or 5 years, and thanks to a last-minute change of plans, we finally made it in. The restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside. Once you head through the first dining room and down the steps, you're greeted by a warm, homey dining room with a surprisingly spacious bar. It has a comfortable neighborhood feel, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit. Our cocktails arrived in about 10 minutes, and the hush puppies followed about 20 minutes later. They had a nice flavor, but were much denser and chewier than I expected. The bigger issue was the wait for our entrees. With the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, nearly 50 minutes for fried chicken and jerk chicken felt excessive. The good news? The chicken absolutely delivered! Both the fried chicken and the jerk chicken were packed with flavor and easily stole the show. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, while the jerk had a wonderful balance of seasoning and spice. Those dishes alone made the meal worthwhile. Unfortunately, my mashed potatoes arrived warm instead of hot. After such a long wait, I was hoping everything would come out piping hot, and that side just missed the mark. Cole slaw was fresh but pretty boring in the flavor department. I really wanted this to be the five-star experience that so many others have had. While this visit didn't quite live up to the hype, the quality of the chicken showed why Pineapple Eddie's has earned such a loyal following. Despite having visited Erie a LOT, we haven't ever had the chance to eat at Pineapple Eddie's. Erie has a fantastic food scene and there are so many good places to try that we always run out of time. However, after going to one of our go-to places this weekend that ended up being closed, we finally had an opportunity to try something new. The exterior of the building is so misleading to how spacious and nice it is inside! We were seated in the bar area and had a lovely server. I ordered one of the feature drinks and we decided to try the crabmeat hush puppies to start our meal. Despite not being overly busy, we were a bit surprised at how slow service was, though. We liked the hush puppies but probably wouldn't get them again. Not much crabmeat and a little more dense than we prefer. But the remoulade sauce was very tasty. I wish there were more of it. For my dinner, I went with the jerk chicken and it was phenomenal!! It is spicy, so I wouldn't recommend this dish for something who can't tolerate some heat. But the chicken was cooked perfectly and the flavors were incredible. The rice and beans that came with the dish were also amazing. About halfway through our meal, our server brought us some complimentary mini cornbread muffins. They were delicious as well, but would have definitely enjoyed them a little more if they were brought to the table while we waited over 35 minutes for our entrees to arrive. From the time we were sat to the time we left, it was nearly a 90 minute ordeal. It's the only reason I knocked a star off. Otherwise, this would have been a 5 star experience, without a doubt. One of my favorite restaurants in Erie and always have to make a stop if I'm in town for a few days. They always have amazing specials that I usually go for, can never go wrong with one of their steaks. The caesar salad and cornbread biscuits are a great start. Make sure to save room for their homemade desserts, always rotating selection- if they have the peanut butter pie make sure to try! Loved the food at pineapple eddies! The staff was so nice and welcoming and the food came quickly. The ancient grains bowl was really good- the veggies were delish (especially loved the cabbage), the plantains were amazing, and the quinoa mix was great. The only thing I didn't love was the grilled chicken - it could have been a bit more juicy and flavorful. I'd probably get the shrimp next time instead. I took my guest here as I am a member of Erie Fine Dining. I let the server - Jordan - know about the Fine Dining card prior to us ordering. I had the chicken and waffles. The waffles were good and the chicken was halfway decent but nothing to write home about. My guest had the fried chicken and thought the food was alright but again - nothing special. Service was slow and we waited a long while for our food. The server - Jordan - seemed to have had a lot of tables and so she was very busy - but to the point where it was clear the restaurant needed more servers. After the meal the server - Jordan - took the Fine Dining card from me and when she returned with the bill she was very apologetic but stated she was told the card could not be used because we did not arrive at 8 PM or later (the restaurant closes at 9 PM). I reminded the server that I had presented the card prior to ordering and that she should have let us know there was an issue so my guest and I could have gone somewhere else and she claimed when she worked there last summer this 'was not how it was' and that she had no idea there had been a change. I am unhappy about this as her superior (according to Jordan) refused to make things proper despite the failure to tell their server about their new policy (it was news to the server). Whomever told Jordan not to honor The Erie Fine Dining card needs a lesson in doing the right thing. Had we known they would refuse the Fine Dining card we would have went somewhere else. read more

Round 2! I gave Pineapple Eddies a second try during a visit to Erie and this time it did not disappoint! We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 6:00pm. We were seated right away at a table towards the front. The room was dimly lit and slight Smokey. Most of the tables were full with a steady flow of patrons. Based on a recommendation we ordered the hush puppies for dessert and it was a large portion of hush puppies on a bed of remoulade. For my entree I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas and a side of veggies. I thought the chicken was really spicy but the rice and peas cut the spice down. The veggies were a nice portion (cabbage, kale and carrots) but they could have been cooked just a few minutes longer). My colleague ordered the jerk burger and said it was good, but the best but he was satisfied. I wanted to order the chocolate cake for dessert but they were out. We really wish the food was as great as the service. We must have ordered the wrong items, because the local reviews seemed great. For us, we will not return. I wouldn't recommend the crab hushpuppies. They sound better than they are. The spicy sauce under the hushpuppies made the dish better. The free mini cornbread muffins were dry. I ordered shrimp and grits and the grits were not hot--sorta warm. I've come twice since my first visit and the food is amazing every single time. Our servers were very helpful and provided excellent service. There's a large variety of drinks that can cater to whatever you prefer to drink. The food is some of the best food in Erie. Everything was cooked to perfection and packed so much flavor. Staying overnight on our trip to the Finger Lakes in NY we checked Yelp and saw the great reviews for Pineapples Eddie's so we got a reservation (not sure it was needed on a weeknight). We were seated in the downstairs section of the restaurant which has a very cool old bar. I started with a hurricane that was very tasty but not sure up to the punch of the ones in NOLA. They serve hot corn bread muffins dripping in honey butter as their bread - very good. I had the spicy shrimp with plantains and dirty rice. It was quite good. My wife got the pan fried catfish which she like a lot. The prices were very reasonable compared to a lot of restaurants these days. Much appreciated. Our server was excellent. She was very attentive without being intrusive. A nice touch at the end of the meal is the hot towel for your hands. One more five star review for this place! read more

Been wanting to try this place and so glad I finally did! I read about the crab meat hush puppies so had to try that out. Each entree comes with two sides. I decided on Southern Fried Chicken with coleslaw and plantains while my bf got the pan seared catfish with chef's rice and beans and yellowstone grits. Everything was so good! Chicken was perfectly crispy, not too oily, seasoned very well, and juicy. Coleslaw was delicious and I could eat a whole order of just the plantains. Pan seared catfish was light and tasty, and it had a salsa sauce on it. We were stuffed at the end. Wish we could've tried the creme brulee because I was eyeing it on my way in but maybe next time! Such friendly and quick service! The table has a note that says understaffed so service may be slow but we didn't think so at all. Loved the vibe, the music. Will def recommend to my friends. The portion was very small though which was a bit disappointing considering it was a side. Chicken was amazing, easily 8.5/10. Very crispy skin with a lot of flavor, and it wasn't greasy or fattening as well so I felt pretty good after eating it as well. Pricing was okay, about $23 for the meal. For the quality I would pay this price, but a bit too expensive to buy regularly. Biggest down side is lack of parking, but I just parked down the street and walked about 5 mins so it's not terrible. I was drawn back from the very beginning of my experience. First thing through the door our waitress asked "reservations". I did not. Took us to the lower level (basement) which ok no big deal it was very nice ambiance. Only one there and she sat us at a side table and I simply asked if we could sit at a bigger table, she said "NO" we will be very packed all night and these tables are reserved. Next thing she says is "you are using the diner card" ( diner card is a card you buy and lets you try new places and it is boho, only Wed or Thurs) I said yes we are. She says her shmeal and walks away. The food was actually 7 out of 10. Mind you we see a few folks coming down and the other server is letting them sit wherever they want and it was not busy. Waitress brings the bill and I give her the diner card and my card. I did not look because I figured the amount in my head with the drinks. I like to leave cash tips and always pay the tip based on what the bill would have been without the discount of a meal. Asked her to break a $100 bill. When she came back I checked our bill and she added 20% gratuity. I was truly takin back because we were not in a large party and I expect them too but most don't. Two things I thought, she gets stiffed on her tips because of the card or she can be very rude and still receive a tip. We were dressed nice and were always very polite and respectful. Absolutely Amazing We were seeking places to eat. We wanted something on the water. We ate at a couple places that turned out to be duds. There is another place but we decided not to try it out. My son found this place. The parking is tough. They have a small lot that fits 6 vehicles. You have to rely on street parking. I was about to leave and go somewhere else but then a spot became available. We were greeted and found out they do reservations. I recommend it because it gets packed. The waiter was very professional and knowledgeable about what was available. I had the special fish and rice, wife hd eddies burger, and my kids had the chicken and waffles. All of our food was excellent. Tasted very good. We also had desert. Kids had bread pudding, and my wife and I had the red belt Ale which was so good. First of all, let me say the staff go above and beyond hustling! You may have to wait a little longer between courses or for your meal or bill to come to you but it's not from lack of staff effort or hard work! So bravo to all of you! In town for an RC racing event with my boyfriend and we thought we'd go for a nice dinner, Pinapple Eddie's did not disappoint on my meal!! Our meal started with an appetizer of the crab hush puppies that came nice and hot and crispy- they tasted pretty good, just wish more sauce had accompanied them. We were also given small cornbread mini muffins served with honey, a little on the dry side but still good! For main entrees my boyfriend had the Jerk Chicken and the waitress looked very surprised and said to him "you know that is very very hot" and he replied with a quick yes, that's fine I like spicy- after placing our complete order she brought back over a waiver form that he had to sign in order to eat it so needless to say he was both excited and terrified to try the chicken. Boy, what a disappointment, while he stared it was hot it wasn't overly hot and still could use "a little flavoring". My entree on the other hand was EXTRAORDINARY! I had the Beef Burgundy special over potatoes. If they have it on special and you are there - don't think twice- ORDER IT!!
