Dave was amazing! He towed us from Michigan City, IN to the suburbs of Chicago. He was kind enough to allow our dog to travel with us. When we dropped the car off at the garage, he then had us load what we could in the truck. He dropped us at our house. He went above and beyond! Thank you!! read more

We traveled to Michigan City with our camper at the end of May 2024 and had an issue where our brakes locked up on us. The campground we were staying at recommended Dave's and we are so thankful they did! With us being from out of town they very easily could have taken advantage of our situation, but they did not. They provided us with a rental car so we could still get to the beach for the day with our kids and did an excellent job inspecting our truck for us. Their prices were well beyond reasonable. We were so grateful for such an awesome shop while we were away from home. read more

Our van broke down on the side of the road while we were on vacation. Dave's was available and responsive. They sent out a tow truck quicker than any of the other places we called and were friendly and so helpful. They even dropped us off at our hotel and then assessed our van first thing the next morning. They fixed the problem and had us back on the road by noon. Prices were reasonable. Highly recommend!!!! read more

Broke down on a road trip, and found Dave's on recommendation from some locals. Repair was quick and efficient and very reasonably priced. (broken axle, parts and labor total just over 300 bucks) When I went to the office to pay, I saw that the employee of the month had her own special chair, which was charming. (Or His own special chair? I'm not sure, it was a dog) Great service, great price. Couldn't be happier. read more

Can't believe how I was treated by this company. I was on my way back to Wisconsin from Michigan when I hit a pothole and blew my tire on 94 by Michigan City. Called Allstate for roadside assistance and they dispatched Dave's Garage to tow me to the dealership. Allstate gave me a time of one hour which wasn't bad because of the weather. Apparently the dispatcher knew the dealership was closed and gated off but didn't bother to call or text me. After about an hour I called to give the driver directions on where we were and the dispatcher said "the dealership is closed so I cancelled the call." Well thanks for the update pal! I asked if we can get a tow to Belle Tire and he said "Gotta do it through Allstate..." ok, I know you have to get paid, so I call Allstate and they refused the service and said they were busy. Wow, just wow. So now I have to wait another hour and a half and spend another $100 for another towing service. I hope they don't screw us like Dave's did. Thanks Dave's Garage! Hope you don't ever get stranded and treated the way you did me! read more

The people at Daves's Garage have become like family to me. I have never had a problem with the service there. The mechanic, Ted, who works on my car is great. I have been going to Dave's for 15 years. The rates are very reasonable, they work with me and have helped me out in many a bind. I recommend them to anyone and everyone. I will continue to use Dave's as long as I live in the area. I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

On May 11, 2018, my tire had a blow out on route 20 on my way to work, and my roadside assistance sent me a tow truck from Dave's Garage. He took me to Dave's Garage and I was advised that my tires were no longer in good shape. They did not have any tires onsite and they replaced my four tires on my Escape and also changed the oil. They worked so quickly although they had to obtain tires from somewhere else. They told me they would be done by noon but were done with everything by 1045am. I was so impressed!! Everyone was kind and honest and respectful and worked quickly to finish before noon and explained the steps that were needed for my new tires. I would highly recommend Dave's Garage and would drive from home (which is an hour away) to this repair shop for further car repairs. Thank you again. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Dropped car off because tire was making a noise and was called and told it'd be over 600 and that we needed a new rim as well as tires. We told him we just got new tires and to only replace the rim and we will find a cheaper tire for the one that had issues as the price was outrageous for two tires. He then started screaming at my husband on the phone and told us to pick the car up and do it ourselves since we seem to know it all. We then took it to Flanigans and it was 80 dollars for the tire and they said nothing was wrong with the rim. They put it on the car and haven't had an issue since. Please do not go to Daves it is a huge rip off!!!! read more

These guys were great. Mark was very helpful, gave me a reasonable quote, mechanics got the work done fast and charged the price he quoted. They also did a diagnostic for free and figured out why two warning lights were on. I love that it's an old fashioned garage not part of a giant retailer. read more

I bought a used alternator for $45 a few days ago from Brinckman's. First of all, the owner has a…read morevery bad attitude. He was very reluctant to answer my questions; he acted as if waiting on me was inconveniencing him. Before I paid for the alternator I specifically asked him if they test them before they sell them. He replied, "Yes." So, trusting him, I bought it. After putting it on my car and finding out that it did not work, I took it to Auto Zone to have it tested. They said that it did not work. I called Brinckman's and told him about the alternator not working. He said to bring it in and he would test it, and if it didn't work he would replace it. I brought it in to him and he tested it and said that it did not work. Then he went back to the testing machine and "grounded it" and showed me that it did work, he just forgot to ground it before he tested it he said. He also said that Auto Zone does not know how to ground my kind of alternator. I called Auto Zone. Their reply: "Their testing machine automatically grounds when it tests." So once again trusting Brinckman's, I put the alternator back on my car and it still does not work. I went into Brinckman's today to tell him about it and get a replacement (like he promised). He said, "Auto Zone does not understand how an alternator works. I'm not going to compare apples to oranges and I'm not going to dispute this any further." My reply, "So basically there is nothing you can do for me?" Brinckman's, "I can credit the $45 from this alternator to a new one" (which he says is $145 and I price checked around and they are $94.) His reply to my saying I price checked and they were not that much: "Mine are lifetime warrantied." I said, "So are the ones I price checked." He said, "Well mine are not." So, basically the owner of Brinckman's promised me a working alternator, wether it was the original one I purchased or a replacement one and is now saying there is nothing he can do for me unless I purchase a brand new one from him. I will never shop here again. The owner's attitude is horrible and his word is cannot be trusted.

The only negative would be that they didn't contact me when the work was done and I had to call in to find out if it was ready. But it turns out that they were somewhat overworked that day. They were really nice people.

I get one elsewhere right after anyways because I don't trust them and the alignment is all jacked up. I hope this review saves some people from going through the same shit I did

AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS. Incompetent service and deceptive practices…read more I was sent to MTI by Discount Tire for an alignment on my Subaru Outback. MTI completely failed to align the vehicle properly, leaving my front specs in the red. When the car continuously pulled and permanently damaged my brand-new tires over the next 2,000 miles, MTI lied directly to me. They claimed I had a "worn tie rod" that prevented them from doing the alignment correctly, just to avoid taking responsibility for their botched job. To make matters worse, they couldn't even provide my final alignment sheets, claiming their printer had been "broken for four months." Knowing something wasn't right, I took my car to an honest, independent shop in town (Apex Auto Care). Their technicians fully inspected my suspension, confirmed my tie rods were in perfect condition, and successfully aligned the car with zero issues. MTI completely fabricated a mechanical failure to cover up their own negligence. I submitted the documented proof of MTI's false diagnosis to Discount Tire's Corporate Litigation department. Corporate issued me a full settlement for MTI's negligence and has since started referring their alignment customers to other shops. Save your money, your tires, and your safety--take your vehicle to an honest mechanic instead.
