Takeout via Drive-Thru: This was my first time trying Dave's Hot Chicken, that reddish hue of the batter made me nervous, so I went with the mild spiced chicken slider, just to be on the safe side. The chicken was moist, and the batter had a crisp texture, a little different from the usual fried chicken coating I'm used to. I even caught a hint of something subtly sweet, which actually made me enjoy it more. The kale salad and potato bun really set it apart from your ordinary chicken sandwiches. The mild heat could've used a little more kick, so next time I'll bump it up to at least a medium. My sandwich came with fries, pickles, and a side of Dave's Sauce. The sauce was okay, nothing special, but the fries were hot and crispy, and the pickles added a nice crunch. Great customer service just to start this review but I had to knock it because where is the seasoning on this chicken? The chicken was hot. (We got hot, medium, and hubs tried reaper) but it's mainly a dry rub of heat but the chicken is not seasoned. I assume the sauce is meant to be additional seasoning but that was not doing it for me. Decided to stop by Dave's Hot Chicken on a whim and I'm glad I did. The inside had a vibrant atmosphere through its wall art decor that spans as soon as you walk in all the way to the back where the restrooms are situated. The staff was prompt and courteous. He asked us if it was our first time and explained the menu as we had some questions for him. We ordered Dave's #2 which came with 2 sliders with fries and some sides. The sliders seemed freshly made and the chicken was evenly coated with seasoning. The bun was fresh and the fries had a nice crisp on the outside but soft on the inside. Although, it lacked flavor and could've been seasoned a bit more. Their Dave's sauce was just satisfactory, it wasn't anything special and just tasted normal to me. Ok, so the chicken here is amazing. Some of the best I've ever had. They offer several different spice levels, and they come with a really good dipping sauce. Everything was super fresh. Now, the reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the sides. The fries were generic store bought, and the bread was basic white bread. I think if this place cut their own fries, it would really elevate it. Also, basic white bread just seems so cheap and easy. At least toast the bread or make something more unique. I didn't even want the bread since I could get a whole pack of the same bread for a $1 or $2 from any grocery store. I will say, at least the fries were fresh. The price is kind of expensive at almost $5 a strip. Canes is near $2 a strip. I'm not complaining about the price because 3 of the Canes strips equal about 1 of Dave's strips. A lot of chicken places are now cutting their strips in half, and Daves isn't doing that. I would recommend someone to come here and try the strips. They are amazing, and maybe the sandwiches are they way to go. I can't say since I only ordered the strips and sides. I would definitely just skip the sides, though. read more

The reaper sauce in my opinion isn't hot enough to require a waiver but its a good blend of heat that gets your sweat and nose going but still tastes great. It was also very disgusting. The chicken was dry and the seasoning made the chicken even dryer. I would not recommend coming here. This is not family friendly. My chicken I got almost the hottest level was not spicy at all and I don't have a very good spice tolerance, but I can tell you this the chicken was not spicy so you can't call Dave's hot chicken not have hot chicken second of all. I gotta take a bite out of my french fry. They came out cold. There were seasoning explosion all over them and not to mention the awful prices you're telling me it's $13 to get two chicken strips not even a drink included chicken strips and french fries for $12 and only two chicken strips. The pricing is awful even in this economy so I'd rather go to canes and get a box combo for $14 with a drink, french fries coleslaw, bread, and four chicken strips then have to bear ever tasting this chicken again. I do not recommend coming here. Have been wanting to try this place since it opened up in Houston. Since my friends and I were in Baytown for the weekend for freaky deaky, we decided to give this place a go. I honestly surprised by the number of stars it has on Yelp as the food was pretty good. I liked the soft potato buns they use which is not cut all the way through, making it less messy and your chicken won't slip right out! The coleslaw was also great, helps reduce the spice of the chicken. Just be careful when you eat, do not inhale as the dry rub may get into your throat and choke you. The highlight was definitely the fries though. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside, they were an absolute hit! Portions were also pretty decent! The only thing to note it that it is actually spicy. The guy at the counter lowkey bamboozled us as he said sriracha was spicy and these chicken were not, but that was to totally untrue. My friend preferred an extra hot and could not finish his sandwich! Apparently you can also ask for more sauce if you're into sauce like me! read more
