When I arrived at DeWitt's I went inside and informed the woman in the office I had a tire that I thought had a nail in it. She asked me to leave the keys in the vehicle and someone would take a look. A young man came out and didn't say a word or give me eye contact. He drove into the shop and removed the tire. About 30 minutes later I was told the job was done and it would be $50. I know, inflation and all, but the last time I had a nail removed it was around $20. I didn't think to ask to see what he found in the tire. On all other tire repair occasions I was always shown what was in the tire. As I was leaving, the low tire pressure light was still on. I went back inside and asked the woman one, did they check all the tires to make sure they had the correct tire pressure and two, would they reset the low tire pressure light. I was told they usually check all tires to make sure they have the right air pressure (usually). That I needed to drive the vehicle 20 miles and the light would go off. I drove over 400 miles and the light is still on. I Googled how to reset the light and I need to release air out of each tire in order for the light to go off. Let's think about that. If the tires are inflated to the correct pressure and I need to let air out of each tire to reset the light, wouldn't it be best to do this at a shop where they can over inflate the tires or be able to put the lost air back in the tires? The tire repair may be excellent, but the overall customer service coming out of the shop was very disappointing.

I could have, (and previously did), done that myself. Meanwhile, my car continued to have starting problems because they did not take the time to find out what the real problem was. Which is why I took my car there in the first place. Find another mechanic.

Miguel was very informative from the beginning about what they would try to do to save my engine and what the backup plan was, and it turned out they could get my car running again while salvaging my existing engine and replacing major components. Miguel was honest and realistic about the time estimate and how long it would take, everything happened within the time frame that he communicated to me upfront, and they somehow managed to save my car staying within the budget and time frame that he had communicated to me. Hearing my car start again after more than two months being without it was a pretty amazing feeling, and now I feel like I can trust Metric Motors to do literally any job on my vehicle no matter how big or small. Once they could fit me in, they only had my car for 4 weeks and rebuilt everything in that time exactly as promised. They handled the most complicated task like utmost professionals and Miguel always asked me if I had any other questions, made sure to keep me informed of everything, and explained things in a way that I really appreciate. Dave, the owner, is awesome; so nice, respectful, fair and friendly! I meant to write this months ago but I just had a new baby and I get a bit forgetful. I've met Dave in the community before, and heard wonderful things about his customer service and skill, but hadn't had need of his services before. A couple of months ago, I actually ran out of gas on Hwy 12 - thankfully right in front of Dave's Muffler & Brake Shop! I coasted in and nervously went inside to ask for help. Dave teased me good-naturedly and then happily procured a small, emergency gas can and filled my tank up enough for me to get down the road to a gas station. This seems like a small thing, but not everyone would be so helpful, not charge for the gas, and be so friendly about it; I wasn't even a customer! When I do need actual muffler, brake or other auto repair services, I definitely will call Dave's first. read more

I have dealt with Dave's Muffler & Brake on a couple of occasions now, always as a recommendation from another automotive shop and without any hesitation on the other shops' part. I have found them to be nothing short of fantastic. They've done nothing but solid work and to say that they've charged me a fair price would be an understatement. I'm not saying I'm going to invent reasons to take my cars to Dave, but I am saying that I will have zero hesitation to bring my cars to Dave & Devon for anything brake or muffler related in the future. They are decent human beings and I could not recommend them more highly. They are local in all the right ways, and they are awesome. read more

Sonoma is so lucky to have this reputable auto mechanic in our town! My 15-year-old sweet, little Corolla was riding rough and needed an oil change. I first spoke with Dave on the phone and, rather than suggest expensive tests and parts, he suggested an oil change and a FREE inspection (comes with the oil change) to diagnose the problem. How much more honest can you get? When I brought it in, I spoke with Anthony, who was most helpful. They diagnosed the problem quickly, fixed it that day and didn't charge me an arm and a leg. They are definitely my go-to mechanic. read more

Dave was referred to me by my brother and boy am I glad he was! My car didn't pass the smog test and I was told that I need a new (expensive) cat converter. I called Dave and he didn't just jump to replacing my cat converter (like others would do), but instead, he diligently investigated my car's problem and diagnosed it with a WAY less expensive issue. We have an RV and Dave's has fixed a number of things over the past few years at a good price plus good service. We highly recommend him. He is honest and stands behind all his repairs. If anything is wrong, he will fix it and not charge you twice. In addition, if there is work he cannot do, he recommends excellent other repaid people that can do it.
