I had a tire changed with a new one. The next day I drove to work not noticing my pressure was low. A 30 mile drive and the tire was flat. So I went to wheel works. They said I needed a new tire due to the used (bent) valve stem and internal tire damage. I called wine country, they denied giving me a used valve stem. I'm not sure if they have new management because I didn't recognize the people that usually work there. I'm a long time patron but not anymore. Tire are cheap when you pay in cash. I have been going to this auto-shop for many years, and have had all kinds of work done beyond tires. Besides being an excellent mechanic and diagnostician, Enrique gives such kind, generous, thorough, and personalized service--and compared to other repair shops in the area, I always find what he charges to be very fair and reasonable. I appreciate that he explains what the problem is and how he's going to address it, and I never feel that he talks down to me as a woman, as many mechancis and car-salesman do. Once, when a large rodent died somewhere (invisibly) underneath the windshield, Enrique agreed to help me on the spur of the moment, and at the end of the day--even though the stench was absolutely horrible! I decided to use our neighborhood shop and brought our Yukon XL and Tahoe here to have screws removed from our tires and they care care of us right away. One of the rare Repair shops that don't rake you over the coals. Enrique is the new owner and he is great to work with. You actually get more than you expect. That's hard to say in the auto repair industry. I had an air compressor for my suspension "fixed" just down the street at another shop where they actually did more damage than they fixed and refused to fix. Then came over to Wine country tires and they showed me the terrible job that was done and fixed it properly! So far so good. I called to see if they could swap out an engine for a Mazda 3 I Touring that I recently purchased. The car is at another garage that the previous owner had it towed to about 5 minutes away. The current shop owner is going on vacation for some time so Enrique at WC was my first call. He gladly answered my Q's, he said it would take about two days. He even recommend a place for me to call for engine replacement. Since my tire was not in stock, I was given a used tire to use until my tire arrived the next day. The tire price was spot on and I actually paid less then what was quoted on my original invoice. Armando's Auto Center is a new repair shop on Highway 12 just north of Sonoma, and I can't recommend it highly enough. Here's why: We'd spent a wondeful day wine tasting in and around Sonoma, but when we left the last winery at closing time on a Sunday evening, we heard an alarming scraping in our right front wheel. We knew we couldn't make it back to Redwood City with this problem, so we called around to service stations in Sonoma. Not too surprisingly, no one had a mechanic available. We were on the verge of calling CSAA and making plans for friends to rescue us when we passed Armando's shop. Armando wasn't open for business, but the light was on his service bay, so we pulled in. Armado willingly stopped his own work, quickly found the problem...the shoe housing the brake rotor was bent and rubbing on the rotor...and before we knew what happened he'd jacked up the car, taken off the tire and bent the housing back into shape. Within a few minutes we were on our way. Where else are you going to find a mechanic so compassionate? To top it off, he charged us only a nominal sum to make an emergecy repair when he could have charged 100 times more and we would gladly have paid it. Armando is amazing to watch. He knows cars very well, having worked for years at one of San Francisco's best repair shops before stiking out on his own. He's honest, reasonably priced, fast, experienced and he has a heart. It's a trek from Redwood City to Sonoma, but the next time I need work on my car, I'm driving up to see Armando. I'll leave the car with him and spend the day with friends sightseeing around Sonoma. I had just gotten off work to discover that I had a tire that was leaking air and was almost flat, I stopped at another local Sonoma tire shop (see my yelp of Sonoma Tires ) to get help to just make it home safely; they couldn't be bothered! I then googled 'local tire shops' and was fortunate to be connected with Maria @Wine Country Tires and Automotive; she told me to come right over. The mechanic, Enrique, heard my conversation and thought he would stick around in case I needed help, he was on his way out the door before my call. I received excellent service! I ended up giving them my all of business, which after inspection by Enrique, included having new brakes installed all around, my replacing all four tires, (which I had planned to do anyway) a new rim (I had bent it which caused the initial tire problem), new brakes all around (I just passed 100,000 miles, and I knew that was coming). They came and picked up my car from my work, they completed the work in a timely manner and dropped my car off to me at the end of the day. I would recommend this place to any of my friends!I will be returning if I ever need additional auto repair and/or tire replacement. Be warned - this is not a trust worthy business. I went there to get an estimate on a major tune up also asking if I needed new shocks on my Corolla. They checked out my car and gave me an estimate of over $1,000. I went to another service station up the street. After checking out the car, they said that I did not need a major tune up and my shocks were fine and it didn't need to be replaced. They just changed the oil and made minor adjustments for under $150. I called Armando's to tell them to cancel my appointment and told them they were too expense. He quickly hung up the phone before I could finish. My car has been fine for the past 8 months. I initially trusted Armando's because he seemed friendly, but I suspect this place will take advantage of you if you don't know a lot about cars. read more
