I've had small work done here and there, but mostly smog's over the years and have never had an issue with results. Turnaround is also pretty quick, which is nice if you are waiting around, but there are other things to do in the area that are a short walk away. Took my Toyota t100 here and they initially said it would take 45 minutes for the smog. I went to McDonald's, got a snack, and 30 minutes later they called with a BS story about how they could not do the smog. Talking about the zip code was wrong and when they plugged it in the machine, the machine said no.Therefore they wasted our time. We went to another smog place in Sonoma and they did the smog with no issue in 10 minutes. If you want your time wasted come here. read more

Steve's Smog, under new ownership the last few years, has continued to be my number 1 Sonoma place for a smog. Almost every time I need a smog and call in and get in the same day. The last several times I've needed smogs this has been the case. He's always available and makes time for me. I am currently sitting outside waiting for them to open, because the car I never drive I had almost forgotten to renew the registration and it's due in 6 days and it needs a smog. I hope they show up, even though today is only by appointment. I am hopeful, but even if they don't come i today, they have still earned several 5 star reviews that I failed to post before. I called in the morning to see if they could take walk-ins, and the polite gentleman on the phone told me that he had an appointment right now, and to come on over. 30 minutes later, I had a car that was smogged and all ready to go. Everyone here is incredibly friendly and polite, and they get the job done with no hassle, quickly. 10/10 I'd come back here to smog my car any day. ALSO, THEY SMOG DIESELS. Bernardo runs a nice shop. He took really good care of my sister and her car when I took it in for a smog certificate that evolved into bad O2 Sensors and a bad computer. He had a big opportunity to take advantage of us and he did not. He bought factory sensors but not from the dealer and found a used computer instead of a new one, saving her hundreds of dollars and was always polite and responsive and we never felt slighted. Took my Mini Cooper in for a smog. The "check engine" light was on. They generously told me it would be a fail on the smog test before doing it. I brought it back for them to diagnose the problem. Bernardo called me to say it was a fuel filter problem that is covered by a 120,000 mile warranty by the dealer. When I came to retrieve the car and pay for the diagnosis, Bernardo said he was not charging me anything because he spent very little time diagnosing it. This business has proved itself to me many times over the years (with three different cars) . Today I discovered I had a headlamp out on my 2014 Prius. I thought I should replace both bulbs so I called Hansel, the dealership where I bought the car, to get a price. I thought it would be a simple, inexpensive job. The service department didn't know if it would require removing the bumper (which would add to the labor cost) even though I told him the exact year and model of the car. (I suspect he didn't want to bother looking it up.) He quoted $26 each for the bulbs plus $50 each for labor - with tax it would have been well over $160. I thought nooooo, let's see what Steve's Smog says. He said he could squeeze me in right away. The bulbs PLUS labor were $59 and I was out of there in five minutes. I needed a smog check but I'm at high risk and sheltering in place. At the same time I couldn't drive legally without it and I had to drive to Sausalito in a few days. Steve's was terrific. Not only did they fit us in quickly so I could make the drive in time but they drove my car back to my house so I could leave it there to ensure it was risk free since, practically speaking, you have to be inside of the drivers seat for this. Steve/Steve's is the best. Point #1: He's honest and a straight shooter. If you don't need belts replaced for another 10,000 miles, he won't to try to sell you on getting that service. Case in point: TWO years ago a less respectable shop in town said I needed breaks 25,000 miles ago and wanted to charge me $350. I just got rear brakes done only with Steve at 85,000 miles and it was MUCH less. Point #2: I bring my own oil and filter in and he gives me a sweet deal on a change. I brought the wrong oil in this time so he used his oil, returned mine and still gave me the deal, not charging me for the oil. Now that's service! Point #3: I'm never going anywhere else.
