Just moved to the area and needed 24K service on my Subaru. Their price was better than the dealer's price and much more convenient that having to drive to Santa Rosa or Napa. Note - for regular maintenance you should schedule several weeks in advance as they are pretty busy. They charge 3% for credit cards - so bring a check or cash. read more

Pacific Rim is truly fabulous! After recently moving to Sonoma, I brought my car in for regular maintenance. Unbeknownst to everyone, a part they used when fixing an issue had a defect. I brought my car back when it wasn't running properly and they jumped into action, found the issue, fully explained what happened, reported the defect it to the manufacturer. The damage due to the defective part was significant and they covered the full cost of repair from parts to labor for what the manufacturer didn't cover. They kept me informed every step of the way and were incredibly kind and responsive to my inquiries. My friend's son (total car guy) told me that the work they did and how they acted was of the highest quality. I will continue to make them my go to garage in town. I highly recommend. read more

Living in sonoma for about 6 months now. I have a brand new Acura rdx (small suv). For my first service, i took it to the dealer. After the second service light went on, I knew it'll be costly to bring it back to the dealer. So I decided to give this local place a try. Not only did the mechanic guy was nice, but he was quick and honest. I asked for an oil change + filters. He did it within 30 mins while I walked around the nearby shops. I asked him to rotate tires if he felt it was necessary. After the oil change, he told me my tires are still pretty new so wouldn't need to change it until next time I come in. Offered me pizza while I wait too. Positive: -Friendly service -honest work - very reasonable price ( I read a previous yelp review stating the price is more expensive. I'm a car guy, I can swap a motor and convert an auto bmw to a 5spd, I do my own timing belt on a lexus ls400, a toyota truck body on a 4 runner and wire it up in a day..I do stuff in my driveway most shops won't touch. Scott has helped me out when I can't diagnose something or its just out of my realm of knowledge. He does a good job and I usually notice something he fixed and didnt bill me for, a new evap hose for example. Fixing cars is not easy work, mechanics are not magicians and the Snap On tool truck does not sell magic wands. Finding someone that has the natural ability to problem solve and has the experience that can apply that knowledge as a skill is difficult. Scott meets these requirements and his staff has always been nothing but accommodating and polite to me. They have performed work on my Lexus ls400, BMW 528, Subaru turbo legacy, jeep wrangler, jeep Cherokee, GMC 3/4 ton van. I have been in this town almost 40 yrs, was a tow truck driver here and know all the shops well and I am comfortable recommending this shop. read more

His knowledge skills and abilities so impressed me that I followed him from the old shop to his new business. He has been around cars forever. Since my initial experiences at that first shop, he has expanded his business and employs several other mechanics, and each of them has proved as knowledgeable as the boss-man Scott ! He has helped me restore my classic 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible (basic in automobile technology) all the way up to my late model BMW Sedans and Acura and GMC SUVs(740's 528's, 325's, MDX's, Suburban's) where he employs the latest computer technologies. I take both my cars to this auto repair place called Pacific Rim in Sonoma. I cannot reccomend them enough. The staff are all p[ros, they understand automobiles. They have been servicing my Honda (over 250k miles), since we moved here 8 years ago. And they have kept the old girl running. I was a bit afraid of takingmy Audi a4 there, since I did not see many German cars ont eh lot. Was I in for a pleasant surprise. They fixed my clutch and flywheel and simply took very good care of me. It's like I have a new car. The owner Scott is a very cool guy, and the turnaround is very, very fast, and the work highly professional and toal quality. The staff is very friendly helpful, and it is not a place trying to rip youi off. They are trying to provide excellent service at reasonable rates. Ding, ding, WINNER! No more driving to San Rafael for the Marin snobbishness. While Sonnen has done wonders, I always felt like I never got a break for buying my car from them, nor coming in each and every time for an oil change. Yeah they did some minor detail to the car, but they made sure never to give much of a price break without your warranty intact. Oh well, it's better to stay local and help the locals. In a small town with few options, Pacific Rim does the job adequately. So far as I have found, it's the best garage in town. When I am in the area and need something done on a Honda or a Toyota, I go to them. Negatives: * Girl at the front desk never seems to know what is going on, either in your car or at the shop. * Expensive: runs about 10% more than comparable shops in bigger cities nearby like Napa, Petaluma, or Novato. For example labor is over $100 an hour and a hook up to the vehicle code diagnostic costs $98. Positives: * The guy in charge really knows what he is doing, particularly with Japanese engines. * They have a family run down home attitude, so will take a look at oil levels and water levels and brakes if you ask, while it's up there, for no additional charge, simply to make certain you are a'Ok to drive. * They aren't condescending to female drivers * Turn over time is quick. They had my smog check done in 20 minutes on a busy Friday afternoon. * It's located near cafes, and several grocery stores, so you can get stuff done while you wait. read more

OK, maybe I'm biased because I used to work there (which is also why I may be a perfect candidate to review because I no longer work there). I have to say, this is a great shop. It is owned and run by very hardworking, honest and ethical people. Scott's business has grown to be one of the busiest shops in town because he maintains a great reputation as a mechanical wizard and big-hearted guy (which is critical in a small town like Sonoma!). Even though I live in Santa Cruz, I come all the way back to Sonoma to get my vehicle repaired at Pacific Rim because it is fair, doesn't up-sell, is typically way cheaper than the dealer, and has all the charm and personal service of a small business. read more

This is an honest and reliable place. I had my car towed because my car was leaking coolant and would not start. I was worried that I would be charged a lot for "diagnostic fees" but they found a major problem early and I spent way less than expected. I woke up this morning to a flat tire, and didn't know where to start to get it fixed. I live in Sonoma, and have been using a mechanic in Petaluma - (just a long term, loyalty reason!) I came on YELP, and saw all the reviews for Pacific Rim, and they are about 4 blocks from my house. I called Scott, told him the issue and where I was, he said he'd be down in about a half an hour, and sure enough, he knocked on my door a half hour later, told me he already put air in the tire, so that I could drive down to the shop, drove down, sat in the car while he pulled a big bolt out from my tire, patched it, charged me a minimal fee, and off I went. Had a problem with a 2017 Ford Explorer positive terminal connection- it had fractured. A Ford Dealership quoted $1,016.00 to replace the terminal and battery cable. I stopped at Pacific Rim Auto for advice, I had never been there before. I told Scott what Ford told me and he simply smiled. He stopped what he was doing and 25 minutes and $60.00 later Scott had sorted out a work around solution. Now that my warranty has expired on the Explorer I feel very comfortable having future work done there. I don't understand how these people do business. I made an appointment two weeks out to get my check engine light diagnosed and fixed so the car would pass smog. Note the "and fixed" part. I got a phone call a few hours later saying my car was ready to go. Whoa! Awesome! It's fixed! No, but they did do some other unauthorized work on it. They told me they needed to order parts for the repairs to pass smog, and would book me an appointment to have the actual work done in *three* weeks. Alicia, the front desk person, said she needed to call around to get a good price on the parts and would call me back with an estimate. The price on the part seemed high, so my boyfriend did the barest of research and found the very same part for $300 less! And this was from the dealership (not known as a bastion of bargain prices). So, now I'm assuming my estimate should be $300 less than what she originally told. Ah, much better. Imagine my surprise when after having the repairs done, the cost comes in pretty close to the original estimate. I have no doubt that Scott, the owner of the place is a good mechanic - my boyfriend swears by him - though he never spoke to me personally. And my 17-year-old car passed smog with flying colors. However, when I go to a mechanic, I'm used to being given a detailed estimate, and then when things go above and beyond that estimate, I expect a phone call to approve the additional service and/or parts. Oh yeah, and having the diagnosis and repair done in the same visit would be nice too. Is that too much to ask? read more

NOT IF YOU HAVE AN AUDI. I had searched on Yelp for a local mechanic in Sonoma to fix a few things on my Audi. These guys had the highest rating so I went with them. I made an appointment for when I had 2 days off in a row and when the day came I took my car to them. A few hours later, they called me and quoted me a price for the fixes and told me that, hopefully, they could have it done by the end of the next day. I said ok, so far all that was mostly what I was expecting. At the end of the second day however, they called saying they had done NOTHING. Saying they no longer want to fix Audi's at Pacific Rim. Seriously! They stole 2 days off from me and did not fix my problem. I'm sure they are a great shop - they just may decide to stop servicing your make, mid service. read more

Went there this mornning as I need to replace a headlight on the front drivers side of my BMW. I had popped into the SF BMW dealer yesterday but they said it was a 2 hour job and around $160. Would have paid but didn't have the time to wait. Pacific took care of it immediately. Checked that they had the right part and for a fraction of that cost and 10 mins later, I was on my way. I had a heck of a day yesterday trying to remotely arrange a rescue-mechanic for one of my company's fleet of commercial vehicles when our roadside assistance refused to come out to help us (the issue was "beyond their scope"). When I started calling around for a mechanic in Sonoma, I got hung up on, yelled at, and laughed at for trying to find someone on a Saturday afternoon. Then I called Scott at Pacific Rim, and he immediately assessed my (admittedly out-of-the-ordinary) situation and told me he could help us. He took the name of my driver and the location of the vehicle and sent someone out immediately. He was so friendly and honest with me when I was worried and under pressure to get my vehicle back on the road, and was knowledgeable and clear about what needed to be done. When he called back an hour later, my driver was back on track, and he only charged me for 30 minutes of their time! He saved my weekend, and I felt so well supported and informed. I went here on a recommendation from a colleague and got a fair estimate, good service and good pricing (I did check with the dealership which wanted a ridiculous amount). Depending on how busy they are and how long the job takes, you may not be able to get work done right away and have to make an appt, but great to know where I can take my car when I have problems. read more

This place is awesome..5 stars all the way. Always busy but that is because it is known in town that these people are so great and so honest and do such good work it is service and repair you can trust your car with. Just the other day I had a fender thing with my car and another one backing out and into each other. Looked like no damage but when I got home I saw the back bumper was out on the side and a dent etc. I had visions of body shop saying new bumper and $1500 to insurance company claim. Well it was no biggy for them..They fixed it in 2 hours and it looks great. Charged me $67!! And this was right before a holiday. What can I say?? Wow! What an awesome, honest place! We used to go to Sonoma Tires (I won't even start about them) and were looking for another place to go. After reading the reviews on yelp we thought we would give Pacific Rim a try. Boy, are we glad we did! My sister had a huge bolt in her tire, we thought it would have to be replaced. Pacific Rim was able to take out the bolt, patch the tire, and fill it with air in about 5 min. And it only cost $10!! The girl at the front is ssuper sweet, nice and very helpful. Such a pleasant experience. My whole family will now be going to Pacific Rim for all of our repair needs : D read more
