I sent him another email the week after asking for an ETA and once again asked if he needed any additional information from me, still no response. Week 3 we left a voicemail with his office admin and still did not receive a call back or reply via email. To make matters worse, the person who answered the phone was quite rude and reminded us that it was a "month before the tax deadline, what do you expect?". I finally went in person to his office (without an appointment) to ask about the status of our return. He pulled out the paperwork and notified me that he needed some addtional info for our child expenses and some info for stocks I had sold that year. Really? Why didn't you mention that earlier, you know...when I emailed you once a week asking if you needed anything else? Or why not pickup the phone and return a call? When confronted about the lack of response to my emails and phone message, he was rude and once again stated that it was "only a month before the deadline" what did I expect?!? Seriously? Who operates a business like that? Regardless, I provided him with the information he requested within 30 minutes of leaving his office. Another week went by, still not a word. I sent a follow up email the following week, you guessed it...NO RESPONSE. Over a month has gone by since I met with him in person and turned in my paperwork when we receive an actual email from Dan. Exciting right?? nope...he was asking for basic information which had already been answered by us (more than once) at our initial meetings and via email. Unbelievable. Finally when confronting him via email about this, he stated that he no longer felt comfortable handling our return and mailed our paperwork back to us with two weeks left before the deadline. Extremely unprofessional! I highly recommend you stay away from this CPA and take your taxes elsewhere.

Quality Service All Around…read more Dan Barnes has completed my taxes for over a decade. He and his staff are always professional and looking out for my best interest. I receive a packet of information every year that among other things, includes tips on how tax laws have changed and how they may impact me. He also provides recommendations of the types of expenses and documentation I may want to include in order to obtain the lowest tax rate possible. If I have questions, his office responds promptly and thoroughly. Once I return my documentation to Dan's office, my tax return is completed and filed quickly. If I do not get my documentation to Dan's office prior to April 15, they automatically file an extension for me without me even needing to ask. Their service is stellar as is their preparation of tax returns. Dan and his staff always review my situation and finances carefully to ensure they take advantage of every tax law that may benefit me. I connected with Eichenbaum Bateman Larkin in late January. Their commitment was to provide advice on trust funding and then work on the tax return after April 15th. Despite three separate commitment dates, and multiple requests, no advice was ever provided. Nor was any communication provided of the process or timing to do so. I think this lack of transparency and reliability was far worst than the unfulfilled commitments. As the Trustee for these trusts, I was left in the dark as to how to fund the two trusts with no clear expectation as to when it would ever be provided. In fact, EBL did not even provide a "preliminary" list of its needed documentation until 6/11. And even then, communication was unclear until 7/27 when EBL stated the need to file an extension for the tax return (recognizing that it had yet to do anything to provide the needed guidance to allow me to conduct the initial funding of the trusts...leaving the Trustee in limbo all of this time). Then, after notifying EBL that I had lost confidence in them and would find an alternative to complete the work, EBL sent me a bill. Recognize that they had yet to provide any guidance or benefit; and had yet to even review any of the documentation from the preliminary list of documentation. EBL's lack of performance and undependable fulfillment of commitments may well be associated with my engagement being a small project. I really don't know. But my experience demonstrated a lack of professionality, lack of expertise in trust administration and lack customer-centric service.

She did not respond to numerous emails nor did she return numerous calls. When I finally reached her, she failed to take responsibility for the firm's error. Details: I left their offices on April 4, 2024 with taxes completed (or so I thought) and envelopes they provided pre-addressed to the IRS with instructions on how to make required quarterly payments. At the check-out desk, I asked if that was everything I needed to do and was told "yes." On May 29, I received notices from the City of Portland (Multnomah County Preschool and Metro Supportive Housing) for overdue balances (plus penalty and interest) totaling $4,695.03. Of that, $610.03 was due to penalties and interest. I paid but then started my attempts to contact the firm to find out why I had not been advised about these charges and/or given additional envelopes to submit my payments. It was not until JULY that I was actually connected with the owner, "Kristi," who was rude, long-winded, and dismissive. Her best offer was a $200 credit on the next two years of tax preparation. (Obviously I will not be going back!) Instead of the $610 penalty and interest I was charged by Portland, I said -- as a compromise -- I would accept $400 in cash. She responded "no," that she had "a business to run" and hung up. I lost $600 and lots of time. I was treated rudely and unfairly. I do not recommend this business.

It is my opinion that many people write reviews when they have something negative to say. And often times people are dissatisfied with an outcome because of their own input. First of all, he was late for our appointment. He apologized and I was cool with it. Then he made a lot of bad comments about my country of Origin. I asked him to stop talking about it. He apologized and stopped. But he kept talking about all other random stuff that didn't have anything to do with taxes like what is my laptop model, if my green card lawyer was good, stories from his family in his country Pakistan and so on. When paying for the session he considered start to finish, so technically I paid for the time he took to tell his personal stories!

His fees are very reasonable. We paid four times as much for a CPA in Eugene to fill out our tax forms years ago. But this Eugene CPA had an office next to a golf course. Mr. Irtifa's office in Beaverton is very unassuming. I do chit-chat with Mr. Irtifa as we go through my tax information. He has referred me to several local professionals, like lawyers, that solved other problems I was working on. By chatting with other clients I know he hears who is good and who is not. I appreciate being able to pick his brain for advice as we go through my tax information. He has taken the time mid-year to give us investment advice when we asked. I have also given him advice on topics I feel passionate about, which he accepted graciously. If you want a very formal CPA, you should go to someone else. Mr. Irtifa worked for the IRS for a number of years so I trust him when he advises me on how to answer an ambiguous tax question. Mr. Irtifa can get behind on his appointments during the day. I just remind myself that when it is my turn he will take as long as I need to get my tax forms filled out correctly and my questions answered. I am glad we found him.

Sadly this family owned business has very poor customer service. The brother did not know how either so they were to either 1. figure out how to reverse the charge or 2. send me a check. Neither happened and the charge went through anyway putting me in serious financial problems which I told them would happen. When I confronted the secretary asking why they chose not to do anything she said 'I told the other brother' who is her husband and my accountant. He claimed to know nothing about it and she could not even locate my taxes. My primary issues - no follow through a return phone call or email = poor customer service. The secretary's reason - I passed it to 'him' and assumed it was taken care of because I don't deal with those things. No one was willing to accept responsibility and NO ONE apologized.
