I was reluctant at first because of the distance from our home. But let me tell you, the 1+ hour drive is totally worth it! I'd honestly drive farther for the quality of care my whole family receives here. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The office is bright, modern and welcoming. I am pleased that Dr. Funada has awesome Dental Hygienists working for him! Our previous Dentist did the cleaning herself, which to be honest, didn't feel as clean as it should have been. Here's a tip, ask to have Amy as your Dental Hygienist. She knows her stuff! She is so friendly and gets the cleaning done right. She's just overall awesome! Even if you don't get Amy, the rest of the team is just as awesome! Dr. Funada himself is very friendly, funny and knowledgeable. He's able to answer any concerns we have about our teeth. You can tell he cares about his patients. One thing I love about him is that he takes the time to make small talk before getting down to business. I've been to multiple dentists in the area, and for me there's just no comparison. Dr. Ryan has done several crowns for me, and the quality of the work is night and day from what I've had done before. Everything feels precise, comfortable, and well done. The staff has also been kind, friendly, and professional. I've needed a lot of dental work over the years, so I can get nervous and ask a lot of questions (thank you Jenny), but they've always been patient with me and never made me feel rushed. They also were very communicative throughout scheduling with updates reminders and follow ups that I appreciated. I know what it's like to run a business and interface with the public. I also know how reviews can be used unfairly sometimes. There are people who don't get exactly what they demand and then use a bad review as leverage instead of giving a fair account of what happened. I'm not saying that is true of every negative review, but after my own experience here, I have a hard time relating to some of what I read. I try to treat people in business the way I would want to be treated, with courtesy and respect, and that is exactly what I've received in return from Dr. Ryan and his staff. I also recognize that a lot of people with positive experiences are less likely to write a review about it so I forced myself to do the right thing here and pay it forward. Despite calling the office numerous times about concerning symptoms, the dentist was consistently unavailable and unresponsive to my urgent need. When I raised these legitimate concerns, the dentist dismissively told me "IT IS WHAT IT IS"and claimed my only option would be complet removal the implants- after I had already invested $20,000 and endured so much pain and discomfort. Seeking a second opinion, I consulted an independent licensed dentist who confirmed substandard work. I have made a complaint to Dental Board of California and few other agencies! I cannot recommend this practice based on the substandard work, dismissive attitude toward legitimate concerns, complete lack of care during a medical emergency following surgery. It has been 1 year and 2 months since my wife had a new crown done by Dr. Rika. Weeks after…read morereceiving treatment, my wife spit out half of the crown. The crown was thin, and the other half was likely swallowed prior to the remaining portion falling out. Dr. Rika offered to replace the crown with a silver crown OR with a suggested root canal to the tooth so that she could "drill down deeper to get a thicker crown placed". We went to a few specialists, including two endodontists and a new dentist, and they all agreed that not only was the crown fragment we saved "on the shallow side", but that a new porcelain crown could be placed with better preparation of the tooth and avoid any root canal. It has been almost a year with her new crown and all is good! We actually have submitted over 4 requests for Cigna to receive a refund from Dr Rika, but all 4 requests have gone unanswered. Now, onto MY experience... after a cleaning at Dr. Rika's office (also 1 year and 2 months ago), I was told that my back two teeth (one on each side) had a "surface cavity" that needed attention. During the actual filling, Dr. Rika made some casual conversation about how "previous dentists she has worked with would rather watch 'these' cavities than fill them". Well... to date, I have to chew with the front section of my mouth. These so called, 'surface cavities' have caused nothing but trouble and any tiny piece of food that is hard sends me through the roof! After my cleaning, I heard the hygienist say that my x-rays looked "good". When I asked to see the cavities on the x-rays, Dr. Rika became pretty flustered when pointing out what exactly I should be looking at on the screen. She just circled her pen around and said, "I wish I took a photo of what the tooth looked like visually"... We have never walked away from a dentist office and have never asked for a refund. They can keep the money but I just truly hope that this review can save someone else from the trouble we went through at this office. Genuinely, I have zero faith in Dr. Rika or her ability to perform dental work, which is why we will be reporting this office to the dental association moving forward. SO crazy! Dentists's fingers were bigger than what would fit into my mouth area and it hurt me; I started to cry and HE took offense saying he should just call someone else in to knock me out to finish!!! I said 'no I'm not being knocked out and I need this completed today'. He half finished the bridge as he was able to shine and smooth the outer edge of the small bridge, but left the area inside next to my tongue Rough. Also, I had two (2) dental insurances to cover my regularly included x-rays plus the bridge work, and his office claims I still owe them money !!! I do NOT recommend this dentist.

When I asked him again later, after he put in the braces, he told me that there was a 50% chance of improvement and 50% chance of no change. He didn't mention that to me up front. I just wish I would have gotten a second opinion, because I can't tell the difference between before and after, except I'm out over $2,000. I just have to trust that this was a necessary cosmetic treatment, because I really like Dr. Guess. My gut however keeps me wondering if it was ever necessary at all.
