He walked me through everything and took his time to explain what was happening with my teeth/gums. this was the first dentist that didn't rush me out of the office- so 10/10! He also didn't push anything on me. He didn't try to sell a procedure. whoever didn't rate 5 stars must have done something terrible lol because he's a nice guy. read more

Two of my friends recommended Dr. Brisman to me and I have been to a lot of dentists before and only experience TWO that has rubbed me the wrong way. All the dentists I have gone to in the past are not trying to con your insurance or you out of more money. I have gotten a crown replaced without any out of pocket fees from my other dentist out in QUEENS. Yes, I have a crown and after coming to see him, I learned I need another one. My damn piercing keeps chipping my molars. WTF - UGHHHHHHHHHHHH But here, I would have to pay an out of pocket fee of 500 dollars and all these unnecessary x-rays. WTF! Before learning all this information, I had gotten my teeth cleaned as well. I had Lally before and never had Irene, so I decided to give Irene a whirl. So Irene, the Hygienist, who I believe is a Orthodox Jew opening told me she wasn't judging me by my piercing but advised that it's not good for my gums. Ummm I mean I had this piercing for like ten years now and no one ever told me this. I always thought the inner part of my mouth - the gum area was caused by my heavy handedness. I never made the connection between my piercing messing up my gums. DUH! So after that, I retired my piercing and now perhaps I won't have a mouth filled with crowns and messed up inner gums. So bonus points for Irene for advising this to me, even though she lacked in the personality department. I would ONLY come here for cleaning but no major work. read more

I have been struggling to find doctors in NYC, as I am new to the area. Found Dr. Brisman on zocdoc, and the reviews were great so I thought I would give him a shot. Went in for 3 fillings, nothing major. He was polite and professional, BUT when he got to work, he completed everything (including the numbing portion) in 25 minutes. I am not a dentist, but I have had many fillings before, and 25 minutes for 3 fillings indicates that careful attention is not being paid. Red flag - I immediately knew that I was going to have issues down the road. It has been 2.5 months, and one of the fillings is already coming out. I will need to see someone else to get this corrected. I have never written a yelp review before, but I hope that this will help other people who are looking for a new dentist. I went to Dr. Brisman's office today for a cleaning on a referral from a friend. Lali the hygienist did my cleaning and took my x-rays. I didn't plan for the x-rays but since I have new insurance and everything would be covered, why not! The cleaning was thorough and painless. Fortunately, I have pretty good teeth and just got told I have to floss more (blah!). I also didn't have any cavities so I can't judge on other work, but Dr. Brisman was very personable and friendly and Lali was a gem. What a character! My new office is in the area so I'm glad I found a dentist within walking distance that I can keep going to. It also wasn't too hard to get an appointment for the cleaning - maybe 3 weeks' wait? The office staff also seemed very nice which is definitely a huge plus in this town. read more

My fiance went to the doctor because her bridge snapped 2 weeks before our wedding. He took her in, and gave her unnecessary xrays (she's been to him before so he already had her xrays), only to tell her he couldn't do anything before the wedding because he was going on vacation. When she asked what else she could do, he said "nothing". That was it. We paid $300 for him to tell us he couldn't do anything. read more

Dr. Brisman was a very cool guy, but for cleanings and routine stuff you don't deal with him. For my 1st apt I waited over 45 mins for my apt. The hygienist was crazy rough..I actually LIKE a thorough cleaning vs delicate, but she was a bit nuts. Got home and was shocked to see some bonding on my front tooth chipped off where they scrape for plaque. I go back but they aren't enthusiastic about fixing it, saying it was already 6 years and bonding only lasts a few years. Um, I had bonding successfully for 17 years w/no problem! Then I had it redone from tea staining. If the hygienist was normal, I'd say ah well, stuff happens. But she was insanely torquing on my teeth and rough. This was her fault 100%. I had to really plead with Dr. Brisman to just slap on a touch of bonding to fix it, he did, and it came off w/in days. They refused to help me further. I'm now told I'd have to start all over w/new bonding which costs over $200 and isn't covered under insurance. Thanks a lot. Find a dentist in your plan in Brooklyn. All Dr's are SO much more sane, normal, nice, great, and don't have crap staff, or union admin staff that couldn't care less about your or their jobs. read more

Let me say that the staff, meaning the receptionist who answers the phone "emma" is very nice and professional. However, I cannot say the same for Dr. Brisman. Over a year ago I went to his office to get lots of work done. He did not conduct the proper xrays and resulted in putting a crown, which fell off within two days of insertion. I ended up going back and having it replaced (made out of metal, yuck) in which until this day feels sensitive, food gets stuck, and has severe dischage of blood. What can I say? Its what he does. My other concern is that he "planned" on putting crown on my teeth in which I ended up getting a surgical procedure for. Im glad I never went back. He did me a HUGE favor by not having any date and time available to treat me. Bad dentist, very bad. read more

The Brisman dental dynasty has been treating my family for four generations. David Brisman is a great dentist, his brother is a well-known oral surgeon, and (more important) the Brismans are decent people who care about their patients. They also clearly care about their staff and who they hire to do most of the interaction with patients. Many of their employees have been there for years. Lali is fast and thorough and also the most fun person to chat with (and she knows not to ask questions while you're getting your cleaning). I really like Dr. Brisman... he has a gentle, caring demeanor and is a consummate professional. I haven't had any major work but recently had an emergency visit that went very well. I find the staff extremely helpful, especially in the way of wading through the mire of insurance matters. Emma has always been awesome! Lali is the BEST periodontist ever!!! Dr. Brisman has been my dentist for the past 12 years. I will happily say I've never had a cavity or had to have gum surgery since going to him on a regular (every 3 months) basis. As someone who has had 5 periodontist surgeries prior to him, I think he and his team are geniuses. I can't say enough- change dentists now and start going to Dr. Brisman! read more

I have been going to Dr. Brisman for nine years and I would recommend him to anyone. He always takes the time to explain what's going on with your teeth and what your options are regarding procedures. He performed a root canal on one of my teeth and nine months later I experienced pain in the same tooth and he performed another root canal on it for free. He will not do unnecessary work, which I appreciate because dentistry can be expensive! He always puts me at ease and his assistants are lovely and efficient. Dr. Brisman is terrific. Very professional and caring. He spent time going over my X-rays and explaining what the problem was and what needed to be done but offered different options. He didn't immediately jump to something very expensive which I have experienced before with other dentists. His staff are wonderful too. Emma was so helpful in getting me an appointment at very short notice. Like most people I don't like having to find a new dentist. I just moved to NYC and found Dr. Brisman through my medical insurer so I wasn't sure what to expect. I found his office clean and pleasant, his staff efficient and personable and left feeling comfortable with the experience. I only went for a cleaning and exam so I can't attest to Dr. Brisman's skills. What I can tell you is that I am a patient that could use a lot of work if I could afford it and Dr. Brisman made no attempt to coerce me into doing anything I wasn't ready to do. He encouraged me to let him know when I was ready since there are clearly areas that need attention. read more

I'm really surprised about the negative feedback but I guess no one is going to please everybody all of the time, but my experience with dr. Brisman has been beyond great. First off, I have the worst teeth ever and have been going to dr. Brisman for years. He has never even come close to making me feel coerced or pressured to buy any crowns or anything else. Instead, like another poster mentioned he has always left it up to me when to do any recommended work and when i have needed to wait awhile, he has always accommodated me in helping me protect my teeth in whatever state I choose to leave them in, for my own reasons or otherwise. As for out of pocket expenses his prices are comparable to the NYU dental clinic, which is considered affordable by any standard. He is amicable and friendly, and nonjudgmental. I cannot recommend him enough. I found him as a recommendation by a very respected oral surgeon on the faculty at NYU Dental School. Though this is a private practice, his extensive knowledge is truly evident and I am not surprised he has such a loyal patient base. BTW if you are afraid of pain or hate fillings (like I do) he is impressively efficient, the most painless and quick fillings of any I've had...and I've had a lot! read more
