I had tickets to see a family member perform a ballet routine on stage. What a beautiful theater, clean and you can basically see from any seat. They had drinks and snacks for sale. Very well organized. For this particular show my sister brought a bouquet of flowers from home but she had to leave them outside by the staircase and pick them up after the show. So if you bring flowers just be aware that you cannot bring them inside the theater. The bathrooms were clean and the location is great as you have some restaurants nearby. read more

I came here recently to see "Shen Yun", which has been playing here every year for several years. This place is actually one of the three main stages of Lincoln Center - the other two being David Geffen Hall and the Metropolitan Opera House. It was much bigger than I expected. The capacity is over 2,500 and it is as grand as any Broadway theater. This place opened in the 1960s and retains its classy and upscale look. Even the lobby area is filled with modern paintings and sculptures. The views of the stage were good even from a bit further back. read more

I know I have been here before and watched The Nutcracker but was not a Yelper yet that time. This time, will not pass to give a review for this institution. We came to see Shen Yun show. Beautiful ceiling lights, big stage, roomy seats and spacious lobby. The live orchestra is not visible during the entire show but wishing they were given an elevated presentation to the audience even for a short time. We didn't see them much because we were in the 6th or 7th orchestra rows. I did not find their sound performance acoustically enjoyable. The show is enjoyable but there is something missing on each dance performances. It is kinda already ended that we did not hit the excitement feeling yet. One plus, plenty of restroom stalls that the 15 minutes break is sufficient to return to our seats on time. We will return this holiday season to experience another epic show. read more

No major issues, although more seating in the lobby and not having segregated washrooms would have been nice, so you don't have to run to the other side of the theater if your seat doesn't correspond with your genitals. My family and I watched an Indian Broadway show at this theater last weekend. The show was called Mughal-E-Azam. I have never been to this theater before. It was really grand and had comfortable seating. I liked that they had beverage and snack stand on 2 levels. We ended up getting drinks before the show. All of the ushers were so helpful. There was an usher who used the Xylophone to tell us that we should head inside soon. I thought that was cool. The show itself was amazing. I went with my family and the show brought back memories for my parents. The show was in Hindi and I liked that they had large TV screens on the sides that translated the dialog. I'm looking forward to seeing more shows at this theater. read more

I came here Saturday night to see the ballet. The show started at 8:00pm. The theater was beautiful inside. The show had 3 parts (Rotunda, Concerto for Two Pianos, and Odessa). There was a brief intermission between each part. The music and dancing were amazing. The show ended around 10:00pm. My only complaint was the theater was freezing inside. The Hunchback of Notre Dame de Paris was a complete blast. The singing and musics touched my soul. Felt shivers during the night from the incredible talent of musicians and performers. Felt elated even the next morning, from having witnessed such spectacle. Highly recommend this classic to everyone. You will not regret it. All the singing is in French, so choose seats that are slightly to the side (either left or right of the theater) so you're facing one of the two English subtitles screens that are located on either side of the stage. 4th and 5th ring seats are very far from the stage--bring magnifying devices to see the performers' faces. 3rd ring seats are probably the best view & price ratio. Masks are still mandatory. The theater gets coooold, so bring a jacket. read more

Came here to see the NYCB a few times. The first time I came, I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was amazing! The theater ran smoothly and I had a wonderful time. The second time I came, I came to see Swan Lake. Unfortunately for me, the tickets I bought were accidentally double sold. My credit card was charged for the first ticket. However, they gave the seats to someone else. I had reached out to the theater weeks before to confirm my seats. They reassured me I had my seats. I even came to the show 4 hours early to pick up the tickets in case there were any issues. The box office printed a copy of my tickets and handed it to me. I ended up getting dinner and coming back later to this show. I was shown to my seat without any issues. However, 15 minutes before curtain call, another customer comes up with duplicate tickets to my seat. Okay, fine so the box office made a mistake and double sold the same seat. NBD right? I would have happily moved. However, the usher spoke extremely rudely to me and told me to "get out" of the seats. She then accused me of forging the tickets and tried to take my ticket away without helping me. She even threatened to call the police on me and told me I was making a scene at the theater. Anyway, another patron was generous enough to donate his seat to the theater so I could still watch the show. However, their poor behavior really left a sour taste in my mouth. It was my first time to watch a NYC ballet. We decided to get the matinee ticket on a Saturday so we can have dinner after. It was pretty busy but enjoyed it. Staff were wearing mask and following covid protocol. We paid $155 for our seat. We did have a good view but had an annoying person behind me as I was concentrating on the show she poked me and wanted me to lean back so she can see!!! I pretty much just ignored her. This is yet another gem of NYC Theatre! I've been here numerous times and I can't believe I never reviewed this magnificent theater. The outside of the theater and the lobby are very modern while the inside is very Grand and Majestic; albeit a little dated (it reminds me of the 70s...see interior photo). I believe there are 5 rings (levels) to the theater. Tonight, I was fortunate to have 1st row, 2nd Ring, Left of stage tkts...what a great view! I've been seated in rear orchestra before and I have to say, 2nd ring is a better view! Tonight, I saw Princess Zhaojun and it did not disappoint! Beautiful staging and set; gorgeous, detailed costumes; fantastic choreography and story-telling. The entire show was just elegant. They even had a meet & greet after the show! How cool is that! I didn't stay because it was a mob scene and crowds are not my thing. But everyone else who stayed was in an excited frenzy! It was fun to witness...at a distance. Haha This is a well-run, professional theater. You are guaranteed to have a wonderful experience. Everyone should see a show here at least once. It's part of the New York experience! read more

A night at the symphony! I was gifted tickets to see "Shen Yun" by my best friend and we had a great night out. I love multi-cultural experiences. I saw plenty of television advertising for this show alongside posters posted all over NYC, so I was quite excited to see it. The orchestra was amazing!! The music was beautiful, the costumes and the visual art on stage was super cool, and the solo artist's were magnificent. Shen Yun means "The beauty of divine beings dancing." And beautiful it was. The 5 star review is for the magnificence of the theater. I had great seats! I sat in the 2nd Ring, row A, seats 109 & 110 which were smack in the center. It was the first row on the balcony with no obstructions or people in front of me so the view of the orchestra and stage were fabulous. I've been here on a few occasions and although I can't vouch for there not being any bad seats, I haven't sat in any yet. I was here last year for Valentine's day to see Romeo & Juliet and The Nutcracker for Christmas and coming here is always such a pleasurable experience. Formerly known as The New York State Theater, but I still call it NYS Theater. This dance theater is beautiful and nicely maintained. I came here for NYC Ballet's "The Nutcracker" and was fortunate to sit orchestra center. The seats were very comfortable with more than sufficient leg room and my view was very visible. It is raked seating with a small step to raise the rows slighter higher, not stadium style seating and not sloped/slanted. The acoustics are excellent and the live orchestra resonate harmoniously as the music is excellent. I like the stone exterior structural design and look. Box Office is available and located on site to purchase tickets and the staff is attentive and friendly to accommodate guest's requests. I finally got my wish for a Saturday afternoon for orchestra center seat to finally see "The Nutcracker" during the holidays at Lincoln Center!! Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's musical score is a true masterpiece that is classic and continues to be heard. The theater contains four main "Rings" (balconies) and a small Fifth Ring containing with jewel-like lights and a large spherical crystal chandelier in the center of the gold latticed ceiling. The ceiling is ornate and the sphere crystal chandelier is unique which, to me, fends a false illusion of Times Square New Year's Ball. Restroom facilities are abundant throughout the theater. I personally did not move from my seat (during performance or during intermission) as I fear no re-entry. Note: NYC Ballet's policy no seating for latecomers, or re-seating for patrons who leave the auditorium one the performance begins. This theater is easily accessible by the 1 train at 66th Street - Lincoln Center. read more

For my first visit this place really left a me with memories. We took a road trip to NY to see Charlotte Nebres as the first black Marie in the Nutcracker and she was AMAZING! I hope to revisit yearly and see a show, the performance was beautiful. At 11 years old she is truly a star, the performance lasted about 2 hrs, there was a intermission and a concession stand for those who needed a bite or sip in between. The facility was clean and pristine and the staff was extremely helpful in helping you navigate this massive theater. Would you rather see a live ballet show or watch the NBA playoffs on TV? I paid $34 for a one year account with Theater Development Fund (www.tdf.org), and my wife was able to purchase two Sunday 3pm seats for $31.50 each. We later looked up the full price of the tickets on the web site, and found them to be $103.50! We got there 45 minutes early, and sat on the edge of the fountain outside the building. At 2:30pm we went in. Huge line at the ring 1 level. All women. You guessed it -women's bathroom line. Delay in getting access to the other ring levels, due to electrical problems. When they dropped the ropes a few minutes later, there was a mad rush to get to the ring 2 level. All women again, for the second bathroom at the ring 2 level. Beautiful theater, with 4 levels above the orchestra. Red carpeting, brass railings, stadium seating, and staggered seating -you look between the two seats in front of you toward the center of the stage. Severe stadium seating, with your knees at the head level of the row in front of you. Sufficient pitch between the seats, so that you could cross your legs without hitting the person in front of you. People could pass by without you having to get up in your seat. At least three aisles with safety bars along the steep stairs in each aisle. Curved seating diagram. Seats on the very edge on the extreme sides, known as box seats, face 90 degree angle to the other seats. These are partial view seats, as their view of the stage closest to the seats is blocked. Got an 8 ounce bottle of Orangeina for $4.75, which is pricey but not outrageous. We got seats in ring 3, the third of 4 levels above the orchestra. Did not see anyone in ring 4, so they probably closed off that level. Our seats were at the extreme rear of the third level, with nobody behind us. One of the disadvantages of TDF purchases, is that when you purchase a pair of seats, there is no guarantee that they will be contiguous. Two people in the same party found themselves in such a situation. The usher asked everyone to move down a seat, so that the party could sit together. The ballet was not based on a story, like Cinderella, and was difficult for me to figure out what was going on. It was actually 5 smaller ballets, with two pauses and two intermissions. Needed opera glasses to see the facial expressions on the dancers, and their toe movement on the stage. I would have preferred the NBA playoffs. The wife is trying to get me interested in watching ballet. I would have preferred to let Marianne W watch ballet with the wife. But you know who wears the pants in the house! read more

Saw The Nutcracker here last night and it was such a dream! The theater itself is beautiful and the plaza outside has a large fountain to take pictures by or wait for the theater to open. If you walk a couple blocks in either direction then there is shopping and plenty of places to eat before or after your show. I sat in the Orchestra right side in row G seats 11&12. I definitely would have liked to sit in the center but I had purchased my tickets too late. However, the view was perfectly fine and you were able to see the whole stage with no issue. I don't live in the area anymore I would be coming here much more often! read more

If, in fact, you have fear of heights, like those escalators that plunge into the bowels of the earth (think DC Metro Dupont Circle and tube stations in London) make sure not to purchase tickets in the fourth 'ring'. Who knew that meant vertigo nosebleed seats. And the worst was how rude and disrespectful the current Director (of the ushers?) was. What do you want me to do? While spending $174 on the tickets to see Midsummer night's dream for my mom's 60th Birthday couldn't focus on the show because of the prominent toilet smell by our seats (K25,27 seats)! If you can overcome the awful smell the ballet itself is wonderful. read more

It is quite the experience walking towards and entering Lincoln Center....the view, the lights, the scenery is breathtaking and I take in every moment of all of this every time I walk onto the property. Going there this week was no different and the weather and atmosphere was perfect was usual. I proceeded to go into the David H. Koch Center located within Lincoln Center Plaza and took several minutes to enjoy the beauty of the front of the building before walking in....I also enjoyed seeing all of the excited attendees that were also going into the place. We were all at the David H. Koch Theater on Monday night to see the New York City Ballet's "Staging Sleeping Beauty" Panel and Dance Presentation to hear some of the historical information around the Sleeping Beauty Ballet Production. We were also going to observe a sneak peek of some of the wonderful music, and ballet performances that will be displayed during the Sleeping Beauty Program that will begin at the theater next week. The David H. Koch Theater lobby is spacious and I was able to pick up the tickets at the will call area. Staff ensured that the line continued to move in an organized manner and I received tickets in 5 minutes. My seating was on the Third Floor and so it was nice to go up the stairs, down the hall to get the elevator because then I was able to see all of the lovely artwork that was displayed on the walls as well as other art pieces. The theater was cool and we had a full view of the stage from our soft and comfortable seats. In my opinion, the view from and the plushiness of the seats was extraordinary! The Program was wonderful! It started with a panel discussion on stage in which persons talked about what they needed to accomplish in order to put Sleeping Beauty together and what changes they made based upon original programs. They had one of their pianists play the piano in the beginning of the show and she also played music from the production when the ballet dancers came onto the stage in their beautiful costumes and performed pieces from Sleeping Beauty. The ballet dancers were so graceful and elegant to watch! We were able to remain at the theater after the presentation in order to attend the reception which included great wine and refreshments (vegetables, fruit, cheese, mini-sandwiches). The reception area is gorgeous and it was great to take it all as we discussed the highlights of the Sleeping Beauty Program. Staff were gracious and courteous. Warning the upper rings can give you vertigo for those scared of heights... If you were there, do you agree?Maybe after so much opera and philharmonic one expects live music.... All the same on the occasion of Mark Morris some time ago the orchestra was heard clear and well. Patrons Patron's lounge is located on first ring, which though often practiced in theaters all around, it always seems snobby to corale off those who paid to be on that inner circle. It happens in many theaters and I find it distasteful for everyone being visibly segregated. Bathrooms Go to the bathroom at the first ring of the bell après intermission. You will be alone and will have time to get to your seat. Best seats are the first 4 rows so buy tickets early on. Food There are unhealthy snacks and coffee for purchase pretty standard. Classy and beautiful theater. Came to watch Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring live orchestra. Theater is much more elegant than Radio City. The screen is tiny from the 4th ring which is 4 stories up. The bright side is you see the entire orchestra. Spectacular score, a great performance and anyone fan or not, should experience seeing LOTR with the live orchestra. Best ticket IMO ever. Better than any Broadway show. The usher in our area was an idiot though. He didn't think we can figure out our seating so he directed us where it was by telling us it's where the books are on the stairs. Major moron. read more

The theater was made for dance as from its inception it has been the home of The NY City Ballet. It was also home for the now defunct NY City Opera. Currently, it is used mainly for dance. It has been the theater for mayor American & NY based dance companies NY seasons: San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theater(used to dance here and at City Center exclusively), Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham. Just now the Joffrey Ballet ex-NYC Co, now based in Chicago is having a run at the theater with their new production of Romeo & Juliet. The theater has been the host of the Youth Grand Prix for the finals. This is a competition showcase for young dancers age 8-19. More recently has been the host to international dance companies. Saw Dongpo: Life in Poems behind someone who thought it was appropriate to be on her cell phone for the last half of the show and by an usher who thought it appropriate to do nothing and allow it. Asked her to at least dim her light and was then harassed and threatened by her date. Usher decided to do nothing, so spoke with his manager who did nothing except ditch me in the hall. How I wish the companies I subscribe to that play here would pick a classier venue that cared about its patrons. read more

We came last Saturday for a matinee showing of Shen Yun and had an awesome time! When we got off the number 1 train, the theatre was right there and a walk across the square led us right in. Our tickets were at the will-call and the nice gentleman presented us with our tickets and we went upstairs from the main entrance toward the right for our seating. A fast moving line at the bar got us a glass/cup of wine fo $10- but be warned- You need to finish your drinks before entering the theatre. We were plenty early, so that was not an issue. Coat check was a snap both on the way in and the way out. $2 and a tip when you leave and you're not burdened with the task of having a warm coat on your lap during the performance. Attendants on hand made sure you found your seat and were available to answer questions. Everyone was friendly and seemed completely organized. As for the acoustics of the theatre, we were very pleased. Our show had a live orchestra and truth be told- there is no better way to see a performance than with a live orchestra. We sat near the very front and the music was simply incredible. Very little if any echo and we were delighted to see the orchestra doing their best to make for a truly memorable afternoon. We hope to be able to return soon to relive our appreciation for this fine venue. read more

I have less respect for the David Koch Theater now. This is a review for Shen Yun, how are they not on NYC Yelp? I was somewhat excited to see Shen Yun but it was pretty much trashy propaganda. I loved the scarves (or tried to) and the opening sequence was promising but that's about it. I am embarrassed that we went and I feel bad that we can't get our night back. This reviewer couldn't have said it better (from a Seattle performance) "I feel completely tricked. I thought I was buying tickets to a cultural Chinese version of Cirque du Soleil. Instead it was a propaganda rich recruiting technique for a cult called Falun Gong, with banners held up that say Falun Gong is Good.... songs about the error of evolution.... it involved ludicrous claims and a lot of waving of scarves. The numbers all look similar, and the expected performances (such as images used in advertising) never materialized. We almost left at intermission but wondered what we might miss. The best part of the night was walking down Mercer with fellow attendees who were making up songs and singing in mockery, and teasing about Feng Shui. The masters of ceremonies, particularly Oliver Perrett, presented stiffly and oddly..........wish I could get last night back and use it some other way." read more

The lobby is elegant and simple, located on the second floor. When you enter, the staircase on either side can take you up to the big hall, where there is some modern art, but mostly just open space. Make sure to check out the balcony, where you can get a slightly different view of the Lincoln Center Plaza. There is only one theater, which is moderate size. There is nothing really glitzy about it, but I think it's perfect for the ballet. The stage is beautiful. The obstructed view seats are on the side and cheaper. They're not obstructed due to any poles, but the way the seats are, someone's head could be right in your way since you're not elevated enough. I came to see the Nutcracker, which was really enjoyable. The orchestra surprisingly wasn't that good, but the dancing was amazing. read more

Had a great time here - We had THE cheapest nosebleed seats in the house (4th tier, LAST row (O), and our view was fantastic. I wouldn't think you could find a bad seat anywhere in this theater. The Koch theater holds a lot people, yet still seemed very intimate. I took one star away from the overly-aggressive "ushers" that were busy running around telling people not to hang their coats over the chairs or railing, and chastising anyone that looked like they were trying to sneak a pre-show picture with their cell phone. I took one, mostly out of spite, but also to show just how good the "worst" seats in the house were. The seats were also very tight. Having just jumped off the plane at JFK, I can say with confidence that these seats (at least way up in my section) were probably about an inch smaller in width than my coach seat on the plane. I would have felt very uncomfortable had I been sitting next to someone other than my wife. Overall, we had a great time watching the NYC Ballet perform the Nutcracker. Fantastic show! read more
