Having seen "Death of a Salesman" many years ago, I was torn about seeing its current revival at the Winter Garden Theatre - especially given the inflated prices of Broadway tickets in general. However, IMHO this 3 hour production (starring Nathan Lane as Willie Loman and Laurie Metcalf as his loyal, longsuffering wife Linda) was magnificent and well worth the price of admission. For a play written in 1946 its themes are surprisingly contemporary, including father-son struggles and the precarious nature of the American Dream for so many. The Winter Garden Theatre, located about 9 blocks north of Times Square, is lovely and on the larger side for Broadway venues. I sat in the orchestra and sight lines were excellent; I could see all of the action onstage from my seat since the pitch/slope is ample. Leg room was above average as well. Note: The staff confiscated leftovers I had in a small bag upon entry, the first time this ever happened to me. Now I understand that it's the theatre's legal right to seize my vittles. BUT it would have been nice to know about this policy beforehand, as I would have ordered less food at dinner lol. And I was so looking forward to that slice of cheesecake afterward. Live and learn.... All in all an excellent evening of theatre, and I would return to the Winter Garden for future productions. read more

Death of a Salesman was an incredibly unpleasant experience all around - comedians and Broadway musical stars are not great tragic actors no matter how many millions are poured into ads. And the play itself is an endurance contest for its fans: voyeurs of pain. But I saw Beatlemania here eons ago and the theater itself, which was built in 1911, is a true Broadway theater. Atmospheric, ancient architectural details, great acoustics and staffed by theater loving oldies that care about the adage "the play's the thing". So do go to this theater but wait until Willy plows into the light pole offstage the last time. Oh and one downer - front row seat was as small, cramped, stiff and uncomfortable as my front row seat at L'Olympia in Paris last July for Melody Gardot. I've seen four shows here now and can offer one main piece of advice on seating. Pay more attention to being close to the center than to how far back you are. The house is wide rather than deep, so being too far to the sides results in some very angled views of the stage. Even if you're in the back row center, you'll have a better view than midway on the sides. The bathrooms seem a little small for the seating capacity, and the line for the orchestra restrooms backs up a set of stairs. It's a historic theater, and many classic shows have played here through the decades. It has that feel of a grand Broadway playhouse. Access to the 1 train is easy-peasy to get uptown or downtown quickly. Pro tip: Seat T120 in the orchestra is on the aisle and offset from the row in front of it, so there is tons of blessed legroom. read more

Fantastic little theater, we came to see Death of a Salesman and it was beautiful...a very moving show. It was organized chaos to get everyone in their seats and then out the door on a hot summer evening. As for the play, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Nathan Lane, Laurie Metcalf, Christopher Abbott, Ben Ahlers and the rest of the cast had me sobbing and cheering by the end! I'm beyond impressed they're able to give it their all every show because by the end I was worn out just experiencing the full range of emotions...and so up close! We didn't partake in refreshments this time (they let us keep water we brought from outside), bathrooms were pristine, and the theater is small so every seat is a great seat but if I were to give advice, bring a cushion because the seats are pretty old :) read more

Went here to see, "Death of a Salesman". Incredible show! The seats are what you expect in a NYC theater, comfortable, on the smaller side, and therefore cozy. The theater is not small so getting to the restroom during intermission can be challenging, but the staff did a fantastic job getting everyone through. Same with the end of the play, they directed us to the appropriate door and our exit from the theater went smoothly. It was great after the show to meet some of the cast and let them know how inspiring their performances were. read more

Good Night and Good Luck currently wrapping up its limited run (ends on June 8), was an excellent, not to be missed production. George Clooney was brilliant as Edward R. Murrow. The production is short: an hour and 40 minutes but it's message was eerily appropriate for what is taking place in the United States present day. While the production was beyond five stars (I also got to meet George Clooney and take a selfie with him), the seating is luck of the draw. These tickets were $$$ and we had tall men sitting in front of us. This meant lots of head shifting for a space between heads to see the stage (we had great seats but the floor is not on an incline.). Unless you have first row or are tall, this is always a risk. Nevertheless, the play was one of the best I've seen and highly recommend. The theater seats--not so great. read more

Tonight was a special date night, to see newly announced, starring, Tony nominated, George Clooney, and the amazing cast of Good Luck, Good Night. Winter Garden Theatre is a lovely, historical theatre in the heart of Broadway. The theater is immaculately clean, with beautiful architecture, and elegance, that has stood the test of time. Loved the friendly staff, the drinks are very pricey. I ordered (1) Sauvignon Blanc, 2 bottled water, and M & M's $38.00 plus tip. The wine was in a kid's cup with a lid, like a sippy cup. No complaints, it could have been in a styrofoam cup, just happy that I could enjoy wine, along with the play. This riveting Broadway play is just as relevant today as it was during the times of journalism in the days of Broadcaster Edward Murrow. The montage begins as a bit of a nostalgic romp through time, the pace begins to hasten the play draws closer to the present moment. The final shot, Elon Musk "giving his heart out" to the audience. Clooney soon signs off and leaves us here in the present, left to grapple with the questions the show raises about power, truth and accountability. Very much enjoyed every minute of this play! read more

Back to see another show. As always, the theater is spotless, and all of the employees are friendly and helpful. They do a good job of keeping up this theater. They are doing a limited revival of "Mamma Mia!" it started in August 2025, and will be running through February of 2026. It is just a fun show, the actors they picked are perfect for the roles, so much energy, so much fun, and so much ABBA music! How could you possibly go wrong? This is the review for the current production of Mamma Mia at Winter Garden Theater. On Broadway for a limited time, this musical features the songs made popular by the band Abba. The show follows a young engaged woman and her journey to find her birth father. Mamma Mia has a great selection of merchandise including pins, tees and other memorabilia. Rush tickets are available on the day of performance for $49. My seat was in the rear mezzanine. The view of the stage was unobstructed but I did dock a point for simple stage design. In terms of costume and performance, the cast outperformed in every scene. read more

I saw the Back to The Future Musical here last night with a close friend of mine. Wow! What a great show! I'm bwey familiar with the original storyline of Back to The Future so I was thrilled to see that the talented cast did such an amazing job at bringing the story to life. The theater is clean and spacious. There were incredible special effects during the show (lights, music, bubbles, flashing lights, etc.). If you're not a fan of loud sounds & flashing lights or are very sensitive to it, this may not be the best show for you to see I remained in my seat throughout the intermission so I was unable to see where the restrooms were along with its cleanliness. Most theaters sell drinks and snacks which I'm sure this one does as well. I am looking forward to come here for another show in the future. read more

we went to the theater to see the show good night and good luck. It was sold out so waited in line for the rush, tickets or standing it was a good experience even that I stood there for three hours waiting for the box office to open at 10 AM Unfortunately, the only thing that had available was the standing tickets we bought the tickets we came back and I must say the woman at the ticket office was very nice. Couldn't be more helpful once we got into the theater. The staff was another issue We stood at our place and there was empty seats and they said you cannot sit in those seats because you didn't pay for seating. I asked to speak to the head usher which she came over and she gave me an attitude. Also You only paid for standing seats which I thought was very not customer friendly and we are seniors and the seat stayed empty the whole time and they kept looking at us that made sure we didn't sit in them. Honestly, I've been to many theaters and when there's empty seats, nobody could care less after you wait at least 40 minutes to see if anybody came. They had attitude, and I must say then one of the people that was supposed to be person taking you to your seats sat in the seat while we still standing I was not a happy customer I would've paid full price for the tickets. If there was any available since I was only in the city for that day, I didn't have that luxury. you asked for what could we improve? My answer is the staff should be happy that you're coming to the theater and I treat you like your second class citizens I must say the woman at the ticket selling area understood that because she treated us like we were as important as anybody who was paying full price read more

The theatre is ornate, the seating comfortable and seats in the balcony had a surprisingly great view of the stage and the acoustics were great too. Had the opportunity to snag tickets for another play/musical last month. Back to the Future! Honestly, I only went because the ticket/price was unbeatable. With bestie down for the ride we headed into the city, We grabbed some food and drinks prior to showtime but we were still early. So we grabbed our seats and settled in. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised by how good the show was. Extremely entertaining and good balance between dialogue and songs. Definitely, a good one to check out. We felt our seats were comfortable and offered an excellent view of the stage. We love historical spaces, and the Winter Garden managed to be both historic and modern enough to be convenient. We loved our experience seeing Back to the Future here today! I have seen lots of shows here and it is a beautiful theater. It is bigger than a lot of other houses, so be prepared for a bit of a wait to get in, at the bar, merch stand, etc. All the lines move quickly though! The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. We sat in the orchestra and had a fantastic view! They did a great job transforming the theater with the set and the lighting. I found the seats to be more comfortable than other Broadway houses as well. Back to the Future is a great family friendly show and you will especially enjoy it if you are a fan of the movie. They did a great job adapting it for the stage, and Doc's Act 2 ballad had me in tears! It was full of campy fun and the special effects really added to the story and the staging. Everyone in and around my Row M was complaining about it. Came to see Back to the Future back in November and had a wonderful time! We were graced with Casey Likes for Marty McFly, as well as fantastic leads across the board. Everyone had killer vocals!! I loved everything, from the storyline, to the music, to the extravagant stage. The scenes where the DeLorean travels through time are my favorite parts - super fun and innovative! They adapted the movie very well, in my opinion, 10/10! This musical is fit for all ages - nostalgic for the older crowd and exciting for the younger crowd. What a night! It is a stunningly beautiful theater. Came here to see the Back to the Future Musical. There were three people in our party. We sat on the last row of the orchestra section. Even though we were under the mezzanine, the view was not obstructed and still had an excellent view of all the characters and could clearly see the stage. The seats were comfortable and had enough legroom. It was a bit chilly inside the theater so I keep my coat half on because I didn't bring a sweater with me (something you may want to consider). There are several concession stand selling food, drink and merchandise which is good so that the lines move fast at intermission. When we left the theater there was a DeLorean parked outside to the left which you could take pictures with and tip the guy. read more

A review for BACK TO THE FUTURE: Umm absolutely amazing! They were also playing this musical while I was in London and I didn't get the chance to see it so I was so happy to be able to watch it here in New York. This is now part of my top 5 musicals ever! Here are my favorite parts of the show: - The theatre is great, small and intimate so you can see all the actor's facial expressions close up. - The dancing was incredible, some of the best dancing I have seen on Broadway. - Probably the best singing I have heard on Broadway in the last 2 years. My friend literally thought they were lip-syncing because of how good they were. - I absolutely loved all the special effects from the bubbles blowing into the audience, to all the sets, fire, and even to the way the car lifted off unexpectedly at the end of the show. Everything was incredibly creative and I was very impressed. - The storyline, although at the beginning was a bit slow, was very cohesive and funny. It was not one of those classic Broadway storylines where people fall in love, there's a bit of that, but it is so original. I know it was adapted from the movie but this is one great adaptation. Cannot recommend seeing BACK TO THE FUTURE more! So amazed and was so happy that I got to see this! read more
