Walked in to David's store with multiple random jewelry pieces. Dave examined these multiple items.. David offered right around $600. This was a little bit low.... David said you're welcome to go elsewhere "of course". So I went to international diamond exchange in Boynton Beach with these same items. Some of david's claims stated 2 items to be of a lower caret, international diamonds Center stated they were higher. Walked out of international exchange with $1256.00 for the same items that David offered us $600 for. Of course it's not life-changing money, but it was worth the extra to shop around. Worst jewelry experience I have ever had: I saw David Stern's great reviews online and decided to trust him with making a custom engagement ring in platinum. However, my experience with him was the exact opposite of what the online reviews showed. I called David and asked if he could do a custom order to be delivered two weeks after our call. He agreed and I paid him up front over the phone. Below is what followed: I texted David Stern a picture as a base idea for my custom engagement ring, to which I wanted to add a simple "hidden" or "secret" halo, visible only from the the sides and not from the top of the ring. I asked him to add a row of diamonds in between the pegs on the mounting of the ring, and he texted me a picture of a drawing confirming he knew almost exactly what I wanted. I informed him I did not want a basket Tulip-looking part included at the base of the ring mounting. David confirmed he understood. When I told him that a family member that was helping me with this process was concerned about his lack of professionalism and lack of clear drawing, he told me not to listen to that family member, and that only he knew what was best for me based on his experience. I trusted him, again based on the online reviews I saw, and did not disturb him so that he could work. I asked David if he could have the ring fully ready to have a diamond mounted in it 2 weeks after this consultation. He confirmed this timeline. I asked David to provide design & status updates, which he did not do. I asked David a day prior to my arriving in Boca to send me pictures, and he refused to send me anything, saying he wanted me to see it first in person to "avoid problems." The next day I came into his store on the agreed delivery date. He sat me down in his back office and gave many excuses before showing me the ring that he "made." I ordered it in full platinum, but he made the mounting out of 14K gold. The mounting design was also not at all what I ordered, and you can see in the pictures below how low-quality his work was (the squares he added to the ring were lopsided and not the same on all sides). NOT TO MENTION, almost none of the items David has listed on his website are his own - he orders them from a third party jewelry wholesaler. Do not be fooled into thinking most of his jewelry on his website is his own, as I was. I told David how upset I was and how unacceptable this was. He at first told me it wasn't a big deal and that he didn't have enough time (even though I confirmed a 2 week timeline many times), and that my design choices made no sense and were not what he would do. He insulted my choice of using platinum, saying that it looked and was cheaper than 18K gold. He also insulted the diamond I chose to set in the ring. The mounting itself wasn't sized properly for the diamond, even though I sent David the measurements of my diamond when we first spoke. After he gave up on trying to get me to accept the horrible ring he "created" for me, I offered David a second chance to make the order right out of good faith. David and I agreed that I would receive a proper custom ring "made from scratch" by next Friday in the mail, and that he would have it made on Saturday, and would send me pictures of it. Along came Sunday, and he began asking me about design questions again, indicating he had not even started on the ring. On Sunday, I respectfully asked for a refund. I asked for a check refund, as this was the simplest way for all parties to resolve the issue. He agreed, then called me later asking to do the refund over Zelle (electronically), to which I agreed. It ended up taking almost 6 days and a mediator to resolve the issue, as David was yelling at me over the phone and swearing, blaming me for the difficulties he had in issuing the refund. read more

I recently went to David Stern Jewelers to have an appraisal of a diamond pendant for insurance purposes. I spoke to him prior to visiting his store and he told me how much he charged. When I arrived at the store and saw the pendant, his price went up dramatically and he told me, the charge is dependent on the size of the stone. I have had lots of jewelry appraised and have always paid the same amount for the appraisal, as it takes the same amount of time, no matter what the size of the stone. I know that doesn't seem like it really matters, but in today's internet world of business it is always a good thing to know you are working with someone that knows their stuff and is not just some website. David Stern Jewelry did several appraisals for me and his honesty and fact driven report helped me to understand the value of my jewelry. I was able to insure item before I had a loss. Good thing though, because without the appraisal and listing the items, I would not have been covered otherwise. In addition to the apparels I have had David help me sell some of my items getting a better price the another place I went. Going to a pawn store is a stupid way to do that if you want a fair price.
