Our nearly eight year old Wheaten was having issues with aggression toward other dogs along with a few other things, such as barking at any and all animals on TV. At that time, we had lived with multiple dogs in the past and had some dogs go through random dog training and "classes" before our latest dog, Sasha. Our dog, Donny, is a 4 year old, 100 pound pitbull/bulldog mix. He was very aggressive with other dogs while on-leash and was difficult to control. Our neighbors were afraid of him and my husband didn't want to walk him anymore. It was beginning to put stress on our relationship, so I reached out to David as a last resort. Our 1 yr old labradoodle puppy was having a hard time being happy. The problem was that he was not socialized due to Covid so being around other dogs and being around people made him miserable. The words "Thank You" aren't enough. Our dog Mr. Bo Jangles is a Bluetick Coonhound and is 1 year 4 months. He was a great puppy and would listen but when only giving him treats. Once he hit over a year old, the treats wouldn't work and he became mean, food, people and dog aggressive, would jump up on you, charge guests that would walk into our house, pull you while walking (so bad my rotator cuff was almost torn) and the worst part of it all, he would actually bite me and my husband; and not a nip, I mean bite where we needed stitches. His behavior became unpredictable and I was scared to take him for walks because what if he bite someone else or another animal. What else can I say except THANK YOU! to David. We contacted David after our 1 year old rescue started to fight with our 4 year old rescue. I mean FIGHT (puncture wounds and stitches for dogs and owners). Both rescue pups had been in our care since they were 8 weeks and got along fine until something changed and the younger dog went after the older dog multiple times. In our initial phone call I was most impressed that David wanted to schedule an adequate amount of time to come observe the dogs in our home with all family members present. Bear is an amazing dog when he is home with me and his sister Leyah, however expose him to other dogs, people, sounds etc. he turns into this nervous, overprotective, aggression driven animal. I spoke to other trainers and veterinarians and was told he would never change, it was his psychological, genetic make-up he was too old to train and should more than likely be put down. I had two private training sessions with David at my home and 20 minutes into the first session I had Bear walking side by side with David's lead alpha dog Dojo. David has completely changed our dogs behavior for the best. Frankly, we do not have the time nor did we want to make the time to train our pup for countless hours. We were strongly considering an alternative living situation for our pup if he didn't receive extensive and direct training, soon (he was previously our daughter's dog before she moved out). We had to hire someone. We found David randomly through a chance encounter, thank God we did. Due to how we met, plus our minimal knowledge of Davids background, we were reluctant to hire him. We checked him out and shopped him (he was the most expensive) and in the end, we felt good about hiring him. Challenges we were having included; excessive chewing, excessive barking, not listening to simple commands, bolting for the door once it's opened and pulling on walks etc. Not anymore. Davids training has helped immensely and if we were more consistent with our internal post training, then he'd behave even better and more mild mannered. Due to David's balanced approach during the boarding and training process, our pup was able to maintain his same good spirit and personality. I took her to other places for training, however the trainers would not allow group socialization for her and she was always on leash when trained as they were cautious of her. Ok, we've only had 2 sessions so far but I'm really impressed with the results already. His philosophy is to build a strong relationship with your dog and has some really easy ways to do that. What I like the most is he's helped me to get my dog to make eye contact with me so if I want to have control I can. It was pretty easy to accomplish with his methods. After the first session we were running up Peter's Canyon and I looked down at him and he was running (okay walking fast) next to me looking right up at me like "okay what do you want me to do next?" It gave me a great feeling of control. In our second session we had to do some pretty complex drills and my dog passed with flying colors. I can feel that my dog trusts him too. He doesn't make you buy a package or pressure you in anyway. The other trainers I contacted - BEFORE - they met and observed my dog gave me a package price and told me how long it would take to train my dog. How do they know what my dog needs before they assess both of us? So I'm happy with that as well. I think someone else said this as well - he trains YOU to interact with your dog. I found David Utter of the internet while I was looking for a good trainer for my puppy. What sold me was all the videos of the before and after training with some dogs (videos don't lie). I have had two one hour sessions with him and the results are amazing!! I am not saying that my puppy was bad to begin with, she was good but would not listen consistently or when there was outside distractions. We were also told with by our vet to work on drop it commands as our puppy likes to eat things she is not suppose to. Just after the first session alone I could see a big difference in our daily walks. He was able to teach us on how to properly communicate with our dog. He doesn't believe in using treats as it gives all the power to the treat and the dog does not respect you. He taught us to use positive reinforcement along with a choke chain for correction. I was a little afraid that this method would create an aggressive dog but with the constant praise and positive talking it counter balances any negative correction. I have had 4 sessions with David now and he never fails to impress me with his knowledge of dog behavior. My girlfriend and my 1 year and 4 month old Pit Bull has a real problem with fear aggression. She is great with us, but strangers are another story. We have had her since she was about 10 months old and within a few months of living with us she began to show signs of fear aggression. It started to get worse a few months ago and I began looking for a trainer/dog behavior specialist and found David. David showed me how to communicate with my dog in a way that a dog would understand. With the use of a choke chain, verbal and physical commands, and body language, he has taught me how to communicate in a way my dog will understand. She is much more well behaved and I can now gain control over her quickly and easily as soon as she shows signs of fear aggression. She walks right next to me when we walk and listens to my commands. She sits, stays, heels, and come's when I call her. She has a way to go before she is the "almost perfect" dog I know she can be, but with David's help, I am confident she will get there! A quick comment on David's training method with my dog and I. One of the best things about it, is that I am the one working with my dog. He instructs me on how to train her to do what I want. This way I am learning how to communicate with my dog, and my dog is learning that I am in charge and she needs to listen to me. It is important to me that I learn how to train her so that when David is confident in both my dog and myself, I can keep up all the work we put into training her. I'm writing an update review a year later. A few months ago our front door was accidentally left wide open. Before David Utter, he would have ran out and I'd be chasing him down the street to come back. It took me about a good 15 minutes to realize the door was open. Instead of running out, he laid there and looked at me as if he was waiting for my permission for him to go out or not. I was so happy knowing he won't run out anymore. This is the best part of my update. I took him to the Huntington Dog Beach yesterday and for the first time I let him be off-leash. I was really scared because I feared the old him (how he acted before David came into our lives) would run off and I'd never see him again. He played so well with other dogs and came back when I needed him to on several occasions. I never thought I'd see the day I would let him be off leash at a beach! David Utter is truly amazing. Yea its like this. I have a rottie. She is 5 mnths and bit me 3 times bc i was being too soft. I met w david twice. The first time he came, the dog jumped on him. He kneed her off of him, and stepped on her leash. He told me " he's not here to be her playmate, he is the leader ". I tried positive classes. They were worthless. I'm going to run after her begging her to stop for a treat, or do u want her to stop on my command? These working dogs need to be checked. They want a leader, they want to work, and have a balanced life. It is pathetic here in CA how these people look at me when I'm correcting her. Running over w some ugly lap dog, telling me im making her aggressive. In the east coast we mind our own business. I told this lady i paid a lot of money and i know what I'm doing.
