All entrees come with 2 sides and hushpuppies. Everything was lightly seasoned, fresh not frozen and not overly breaded. When ordering the ayce option, the waitress will ask you how much of each item you would like for your next serving. This is a great way not to waste food. I knew Mr. Faircloth years ago in Atmore. I knew his dedication to service, the long hours that he put into his restaurant, The Ponderosa, and the quality of food that he put out at the time. So with that said, I've been wanting to come to David's Catfish House for a long time. But sadly, I was disappointed. When you first walk in, it has the feel of a drive through business with an indoor pick up. But, I was willing to look past that in order to actually try the food. We were escorted into the first dining area. As I looked around, I felt almost depressed by the dark décor. The dark blue walls with the old wall hangings did not give me that fresh seafood restaurant feel. The various stuffed and plastic/vinyl and perhaps some taxidermy fish, crabs and other creatures just looked added to the old look. Repainting in lighter colors with seascapes would tremendously help that impression. But even with the issues of decor, I was eager to try the food. The TV ads are impressive with good customer review. So now I wanted to try it myself. I ordered the Catfish Filet dinner. Two pieces of catfish, baked beans, fried shrimp and hushpuppies. Sounds good, huh? My fries were lukewarm. The beans tasted like canned pork & beans with a hint of BBQ. The shrimp was actually very good. But the catfish didn't live up to my expectations. The center meat was hot, fresh and good. But the ends were dried and overcooked. Again, a disappointment. With tips and meal price, I paid around $24.00. So I've satisfied my curiosity once and for all. Don't need another trip to verify any questions. I live close to a Shrimp Basket Restaurant that out cooks David's Catfish House any day. The cashier Brooke was rude and unhelpful, tried to get some good food for my mother's day and instead was net with an attitude from a girl who could not help guide me to what I was looking for but instead get snippy and then get shocked when I get snippy back. Your menu states one thing but you do not follow it so you need to reprint your menus so you aren't falsely advertising to your customers so when they order their snippy waitress can give them more attitude because they do not g by the menu. Came on a Wednesday for the Peel and Eat shrimp night. We both ordered the all you can eat peel and eat shrimp, except I added the all you can eat catfish to mine just to try it out. You have the option to have either cold or hot shrimp. My wife ordered hot, but I enjoy my shrimp cold. They say opposites attract.. Or something like that? None of the shrimp came out very cold and quite a few had an unsettling yellow coloring on them? Never seen that before.. The shrimp are also small, about an old silver dollar in size. The fried catfish were all extremely thin pieces that were quite over done. Not sure if I just don't like catfish or their batter..? Regardless, the pieces were all under a centimeter at best in thickness. The fries were mediocre and the grits were average. The hush puppies were actually really good! Too bad those weren't all you can eat! As for the shrimp, it was OK, but I've honestly had better peel and eat shrimp at a Chinese buffet.. The catfish, no thank you. They really make you feel at home. We haven't had whole catfish in two years and so we were definitely hankering for some this day. Tell you what; this Catfish is well prepared. Seasoned, battered, and fried to perfection. If we weren't afraid of offending someone I would show you just how little was left but the bones. Every bit as good as any place We have ever had Whole Catfish from Texas to Alabama and everywhere in between you will find none better. We had two Whole Catfish, Cole slaw, baked beans and hush puppies. The hush puppies were great as well. Also, the Cole slaw was pretty darn good too. Baked beans were good if not a little over cooked. You know til the point of a little mushy, but still very good regardless. On this day someone or more of these down home folks was nice enough to buy the whole tables meal and there were six of us. Some real down home folks here. Very patriotic as well. A small bowl of cheese was supposed to be good enough for three loaded potatoes. And both of us a pie her keylime pie and I a chocolate cream pie for $5 each. when it arrived I was immediately disappointed to find my pie was nowhere to be found and my steak well done and bland with barely any flavor my fries were soggy and unseasoned and the grits were dry my wives catfish was skimpy her stuffed crab was practically just batter mix and her keylime pie tasted like bottled lime juice and jiffy marshmallow spread I lost my appetite and gave my fries to the dog the dog had no complaints. When we called to let them know about the missing items and over cooked piece a garbage they called a steak. They said it's not their problem the door dasher guy must've stolen the pice of pie and offered to change the price on the steak like they were doing us a favor. And then rudely hung up on my wife.
