Great work. I came in with a vintage leather handbag that had a broken strap. He was honest with me that the leather wasn't in great shape and even if he fixed the strap, there would be more issues down the line. I appreciated the honesty so that I didn't fix it without knowing it could be for nothing. But I opted to have it fixed and purchased his recommended leather conditioner. Only $15 for the repair. Maybe it won't last a long time but I love the purse and will give it the best chance it's got. read more

I have never written a review like this before and I won't pretend there are no spiteful feelings on my part, that would be a lie. However having gone through what I just did though and knowing the generally good reputation this business has, I feel like I owe it to others to at least try to get the word out everywhere I can and hopefully stop someone from making the same mistake. I had gone to Dave's once before and despite some customer service issues(they somehow lost track of the shoes for a few days) I was impressed with the repair job so I wanted to give them my business again. I took in the shoes my husband bought specially for our wedding to address a few scrapes from a fall he took during the reception. When I picked them up yesterday, they looked different in a way I couldn't place right away but the scratches were better and I had to get back within my lunch hour so I paid and left. It didn't process until I saw them out of the bag at home that they had totally polished over the unique burnished finish and made them a uniform dark brown, completely removing a large part of their charm(see the photos of the brown shoes I'm uploading for reference). My husband and I were devastated. We're not rich, nice shoes like these were an investment piece for him and held sentimental value for both of us. It could be they saw this as necessary to cover the scratches, I can't be sure. What I do know is that I was never asked or even told about it. Even all that by itself might not have been enough to get inspire me to write this review though, that is owed completely to how they handled it. I called them to complain. I won't lie, I was still upset and it probably showed in my voice. I made a very active effort to keep my words civil though and explained the issue plainly. I wasn't interested in anything except an acknowledgement and potential advice to fix this. Once I finished explaining, they hung up on me. I called back, ready to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident (even if I doubted it personally). They picked up and immediately hung up again. Disgraceful. Entirely Disgraceful. To the owners: I took the shoes and paid you, I acknowledge that and realize I don't have the power to do much here. However, as someone who works just around the corner, I am going to do my damnedest to caution anyone I can away from you. That probably won't do a hell of a lot, but I like to think you won't get off entirely scot-free for treating me like garbage. I was referred by a girlfriend in town who got her Loubs done. Seen the work via photos and Instagram and loved his work. Brought four pairs of Loubs and was able to pick them up in a few days. The red rubber soles match perfectly to the red roles on the shoe! He was very accommodating since I was traveling out of state. I also repaired a button on my Chanel wallet on chain. We discussed the procedure and don't get me wrong I was nervous as hell handing over a 2000 bag to replace the button and clasped. I paid for shipping since I was out of state as well (got tracking confirmation). When I received my bag, it was good as new! Haven't had an issue with it since. This is the first time in my life I have owned a pair of shoes worth taking to a cobbler. It may seem like a small thing. But it's just not something I have ever done. So I was a bit nervous. I walked in with my favorite pair of boots in hand. They were worn down and sported ripped shoelaces. I needed help. I was greeted very pleasantly and helped immediately. I said I needed new soles and laces. I got a few options on lace color. I picked something standard. About 15 seconds of looking at the damage ensued. I was told all in it'd be $50 for new soles, laces, and a polish. A way better deal than buying new boots. It felt like a bargain. I paid the sum in full and was back a few days later to pick up my boots. They looked brand new. I put them on and still felt the benefit of the several hundred miles I've already logged in them. What you will not receive in service, you'll receive exponentially in quality work. I stumbled into David's store after searching three other similar stores in the DT Crossing area. He quickly sized me up and I'm pretty sure I didn't get drafted to his dodgeball team. After he decided to help fix my messenger bag, I was skeptical. His quote was nearly $50 below the next best. I handed over the bag, expecting to receive a shoddy, but hopefully functional bag. Fast forward two weeks. I took a vacation and it was awesome. I cluck back into the store and he hands me my bag. My mouth slowly falls open as I test and pick at his work. It. Is. Beautiful. Not in the beautiful take pictures of it and send them to Haute. But perfect for me. The bag somehow looks better than ever. After exchanging grunts I depart and whirl around my resurrected messenger bag. It's been a long time since Daddy's been on the town. Reliable check. Affordable check. Friendly check. Knowledgeable check. I went there for the first time a few weeks ago to get some shoes fixed. I brought in 2 pairs to fix. One pair, only one shoe needed fixing but he said he would need to fix both. I kind of debated with him about it, saying only one shoe is broken but I think his point was if one shoe is that broken surely the other show would soon follow (good point). It would have been $40 total to fix both shoes so it wasn't worth it to me. Instead I let them go and trashed my beloved 14 year old shoes. =( But the 2nd pair both needed the heels fixed. They were hand-me-downs from a friend and were worn out from many late night dance parties. They were still comfortable and I enjoyed a small heel dressy shoe that was comfortable to wear all night. It was only $15 to repair both of them total, so that was worth it. I paid the fee, he said come back in 3 days, and I did and they were there waiting for me good as new. Next time I need a shoe repair I will come back to him. He seems to know exactly what he's doing and has been doing it for a long time. The zipper on my favorite pocketbook/man-purse broke. I went into this store and asked if they could fix it. They said yes and that it would cost $20. I thought: that's great and double checked and said - you mean the zipper will be like new and work properly? And the guy said it would. So, I handed over my money and waited patiently for 3 days for the repair. I was delighted when I came back to the store to have the zipper fixed. It worked great - and I was happy. Fast forward 3 weeks later. The zipper broke again. Son-of-a---! Mind you: I'm not man-handling the pocketbook. In fact, I don't use the zipper that often to begin with - only when I'm in really crowded areas. I was at a local fair when I tried to close the zipper - to ward off pick-pockets - and the zipper busted. Essentially, the 'slider' came off the zipper teeth/track. I was angry. So, today I went to the repair store to figure out what happened. The guy instantly recognized me which was great since I didn't have my receipt in hand. And, I showed him the zipper had broke just two days earlier. He claimed that he charged me $20 to repair just one "side" of the zipper. And that the broken part was "the other side" that he didn't repair. He also couldn't figure out why it broke. And he said, it would have cost $60 if I wanted the full zipper replaced. And that "maybe" his brother would cut me a deal. I don't know the mechanics of a zipper. But I'm infuriated that this guy wasn't fully transparent with me about what they were fixing. I was told they'd fix the zipper to make sure it worked properly. I also think it was balonie that he wanted to charge me more money for the additional repair. If you choose to patron this place, which is entirely up to you, I recommend fully understanding what exactly you're getting fixed/repaired, and to know what guarantee they will make on that repair. 2 stars - they were timely and somewhat courteous. However, I feel like I've been taken for a ride. read more

Anyway, as the reviews have stated, they did a great job on 2 pairs I brought in. I had red rubber soles put on in order to extend the life of my shoes. I will definitely be bringing more pairs in. Absolutely fantastic work. I read the reviews and went in with high expectations on my sole swap, and he's looking at those expectations in the rear-view mirror. Turn around time? What turn around time? I told him I was in no rush and it still took less than a week to completely rehab these shoes. My wife had to pick them up for me, and I honestly thought she'd misunderstood and just bought a new pair! The price was a little bit higher than I expected, but still less than 1/5th the cost of a new pair (and did I mention that these look new upon return?)! Knowing that David's is around the corner from me has completely changed the way I'll be doing shoe shopping from now on: I won't be. This is the second time I have used their services and I couldn't be more happy!! My louis vuitton looks brand new after they replaced the worn out leather rim at a reasonable price. He gave me great advice about what to do/not do and has already fixed heels on 2 stuart weitzman boots, Burberry boots & pumps, Prada heels destroyed by cobblestone. I brought in a tan suede Chloe bag with hot chocolate stains and black jean stains. They kept saying that they'd be able to remove the stains but it wouldn't be perfect.. Since I read that they had excellent reviews I decided to take my chances and I am not disappointed. They were able to remove all the stains and make it look almost like new! The price was super reasonable as well.. Other cleaners wanted to charge $50 or more and they charged me $20 dollars to remove the stains AND make it waterproof! I just started going to this place which was recommended to me by a friend. AMAZING!! I have brought 2 pairs of sandals and 1 pair of leather knee high boots. The sandals turned out so beautiful (like new) that my dog decided to indulge on one of them :( My leather knee high almost made me cry on the spot. I searched for a new cobbler since mine was forced out of his space. David had good reviews so I dropped off two pairs of shoes - one to be resoled and one to have new heels put on. After the extended lecture about buying quality shoes he took the shoes and did the work. Another lecture about shoes at pick-up then today, about a month later I'm walking across my office and the heel falls off my shoe. Johnston and Murphy aren't exactly cheap shoes but the heel should absolutely not fall off just a month after being done. Go elsewhere. read more

It's hard to rate the work he does because he has talked me out of doing more stuff than he's done. I'm a volunteer firefighter and my leather fire boot has been giving me a nasty blister on my ankle every time I wear it. He took it apart, softened the offending spot and sewed it back together for $10. Another time I brought in a favorite pair of loafers--they are incredibly comfortable--for new soles. He told me that the shoes wouldn't be nearly as comfortable if I resoled them and that they would be fine with the thin soles. Saved my shoes' comfort and some expense. read more

It was my first time going to David's shoe repair, and by the reviews, thought I would try it out to repair a pair of grey Frye boots I had that had scuffs on the leather in the front and back. He let me know it would only be a couple days turnaround and that he couldn't do much except mix some polish to match the various grey tones in the boots. I was totally impressed today when I went to pick up the boots - they look like new! Beautiful! He only charged me $20. SUPER reasonable.
