Having had several items repaired here now, I can confidently say Boston Instant Shoe Repair is indeed "as good as it gets." Most recently, I've had two pairs of boots, one high- and one low-heeled, re-heeled at Boston Instant Shoe Repair. Each repair cost $25 and was done in about two days' time. The gentleman at BISR also polishes the boots to gleaming. Both of my pairs of boots look brand new, and perhaps even better than they were when I bought them thanks to the quality of the new heels. I would unreservedly recommend Boston Instant Shoe Repair based on the quality of this work. The hours on display at BISR say M-F, 9-6, but I dropped my latest pair of boots off on a Saturday, so I'm not sure if that's correct. THE BEST shoe repair (more like shoe reconstruction) in the world! I searched literally all over the world... [New York, London, Paris, Milan] to find someone to save my beloved Louboutin Daffodile shoes for a reasonable price - David's Shoe Repair not only did an amazing job but I could NOT BELIEVE the amazing price they gave me! Louboutin uses a specific type of leather that is very hard to work with (and expensive) so most repair shops wouldn't even attempt the job. The iconic red lacquered sole was also ruined but they did an amazing job - you literally can't even tell it was ever ruined. Long story short - my puppy chewed up my $1,100 Louboutin Daffodile 8" black leather pumps. Obviously extremely expensive, but more importantly they are discontinued and extremely hard to get ahold of...not to mention they meant SOO much to me. When I say chewed, I mean ruined the leather on the sides, mutilated the skinny heel, ruined the red sole, teeth marks all up and down the heel - I mean CHEWED UP! I brought them to David's and he said he could not only fix them, but he could also enhance/preserve them by adding a protector on the sole bottoms - that LOOKED EXACTLY like the iconic Red Bottom bottom material for only $60. I thought I had met an angel. I had paid $100 for some crappy red rubber material from some other repair shop - but David's was so authentic you couldn't even tell they have protection on them. The material is rubber-like so it helps with walking - but it's shiny, thin, and it just looks amazing!!!! I gave them as much time as they needed, I think a couple of weeks but it was a very time consuming job and they are a very busy shop. Plus, they would have been still been sitting in my closet chewed up so I had nothing to lose. In Boston for work and needed a shoe shine. I hopped and yelp and thought it was my lucky day when I read the reviews for this shoe repair store and and it just happens to be a few floors down from where I work. Here's my conversation with the guy in charge: Me: hi! how much for a normal shoe shine? Him: it's going to be $10 (then he looks me up and down). No actually it's going to be $20 for you. At this point I'm confused and out of my element. Me: well that's really expensive... I usually get them done for like $6-7 Him: then get out of here I should have left at this point but I didn't see any other close places. Me: As long as I get it back in the morning... He grunts and I pay and leave. The next day, obviously, they're sitting there EXACTLY in the same spot he left them. He refuses to refund me even having done no work so far and spends less than 2 min on his machine polishing my shoes and handing them to me - with some scuffs still near the heel area. You know that sinking feeling in your chest when you know you've been ripped off and there's nothing you can do about it? A month later, it still hurts a little. I came here last Saturday to drop off three pairs of shoes. Unfortunately, nobody was working! According to Yelp and also to the voicemail of the business, they were open. I had been without a steady shoe repair person for a long time. I had a guy I used to go to in Charlestown, and he closed his shop, and I just sort of let my favorite shoes get gnarled by the harsh New England weather and/or cobblestones, metal grates, uneven brick sidewalks, etc. I went to this place. I shyly handed my Cole Haan wedge ankle booties, with hardly a wedge left and a hole in the sole, and asked "can you heal my heels?". He wasn't even phased! Of course he could fix them. I also gave him two pairs of pumps that needed new heels. I think it was around $90 or so for all 3 pairs, the most expensive being the wedge booties. Some are saying this place is pricey, but how many shoe repair places do you know? He does excellent work, he had my shoes back to me in less than 48hrs, and they looked better than when they were new! read more

This isn't a Shoe Repair shop, it is a shop of MIRACLES! I took in two pairs of shoes that were in dismal shape. Dismal! My Tory's were completely worn down, with the inner structure literally hanging out. The other pair of flats had a hole the size of a dime in them. I went in fully expecting to be turned away. Jesus examined the pairs quietly, and I got more and more nervous... anxiously chatting to fill the silence. He shook his head, which I took as a sign that they were beyond repair. I was prepared to walk away, but he stopped me, "It is bad, but not so bad. I can fix this." I put down my 50% cash deposit and prayed that he'd dazzle me. And dazzle me he did! I picked up the shoes today and They. Are. Flawless! They look amazing, like brand new shoes! I definitely paid for them ($55 and $60 for the pairs, respectively), but that's because the damage was extensive. Like, embarrassingly so. He did say that next time, I should come sooner, and that he won't have to charge as much or take as long to do the repairs. HIGHLY recommend. If he can work this much magic on shoes that seem completely lost, I can't imaging how good it will be on shoes with less serious problems. He does take cash only (but there are multiple different banks' ATMs in the Pru), and you have to out 50% down when you drop off. Are those MY shoes????? Yes, I was quite surprised about how freaking amazing they looked, that I almost didn't recognize them! I wanted to hug the man when he handed me my shoes. I came to him with my favorite pair of Gucci pumps. I had given them hell, so the little heel needed replacement and I wanted to get the black rubber sole so that my shoes would last longer and I won't slip as much. They're also patent leather and they looked a bit dirty and didn't look as shiny. He said he could fix it and also cleaned them but I never expected them to look like new again. I was amazed. The best service and his workmanship is fantastic. I brought three pairs of ankle boots to get the heels repaired in February 2020, before Covid set in, he had one pair repaired so I prepaid for the last two set of boots then Covid hit. I am working from home, and of course, he is not open. Time goes by, every once in a while I call but there is no answer. Today I am back in our offices at the Prudential and decided to try and see if he was open. Not only was he open, he had my boots packed up and ready to give to me. I took my Sam Edelman bright blue suede pumps to my regular guy at Alton Place, and he was unable to fix them. He was very apologetic, and I was equally downtrodden, until I brought my shoes here. Boston Instant Shoe Repair reheeled my super thin stilettos for $16 within 24 hours. The location is super convenient and central, the guy is adorable in an "Up" sort of way, AND your shoes are heeled (sorry, bad pun) fast. I have nothing but good things to say about Boston Instant Shoe Repair. I have a pair of shoes that were close to $300 new and I had worn them for about 2 years almost daily to the office. So you can imagine I had worn right through the leather soles, so much so that you could see the leather insole coming through the bottom. I took them to BISR hoping he could put some new soles on them and i could maybe get a little more use out of them before i ditched them but i was blown away when i received the finished product. My shoe's came back as if they were brand new - obviously the soles were new but he did such an amazing job integrating the new soles into the shoe you could not tell at all that any work had been done on them. This is not always the case. I would consider it expert craftsmanship along with a very good polish and shine they looked like the day i got them - They are also just as comfortable - sometimes the fit can be a little off with a new sole but these were 100% perfect right away. If you've got some shoes that need some attention bring them here this guy is a magician - he's not the cheapest around but you definitely get what you pay for, quality craftsmanship. read more

This place is fantastic, the man behind the counter is very nice and is great at what he does. I needed to add some holes to a new belt, and this was the only place I could find that offered the service on-the-spot. A dollar a hole, too! I am pretty hard on my shoes and this place has been fantastic for keeping them looking like new. My shoes always come back cleaned/brushed/polished even if they only went in for a heel cap. I recently brought in a pair of boots I did not think were salvageable and a day later they look as good as new. Boston sidewalks, with all that uneven brick and cobblestone, are not so kind to stilettos. Those little plastic heel-pieces tend to fall off or get worn down in no time at all, especially during winter months when despite the ice some of us wear impractical footwear anyway. So, I was walking through the Prudential mall when I noticed that my right boot, with said sort of heel, was making a whole lotta noise. The nail was poking through and clanging against the floor with each and every step. For no reason at all, I happened to read some of the signage as I was passing the Prudential Office Tower elevators and one of the things listed on said signage happened to be "Cobbler," located on level P2. I headed on down. (Take the elevator right next to the Ann Taylor store, and be sure you have cash on you, because the shoe repair place doesn't take cards.) The cobbler was in, was very pleasant, and fixed up both my boots right there on the spot, for just $13. His little store also supplies a variety of insoles and other shoe-related gear, and he has a full range of equipment, so if your feet are killing you for some reason as you're walking through the mall--or if your shoes are just looking ugly--this place could be worth a visit. read more

I always thought I'd have to throw my high heels away when the nail started poking through. Turns out...I was wrong! I've taken 3 different pairs of heels here in various states of embarrassing disrepair (one pair of patent heels had the leather peeling up the heel after a particularly long night out on the town) and each one looks as good as new after an afternoon or two at this magical hole-in-the-wall in the basement of the Pru. The price to repair the heels on a pair of pumps (one patent, 2 suede) was $14-16 per pair. Extremely reasonable considering that it means I get to keep the shoes I love! read more

He should change the name from "...Instant..." to Whenever-I-Get-To-It Shoe Repair. I went to this place based on the amazing reviews on this site. Dropped off two pairs of shoes on a Thursday and the(very unfriendly) guy told me to pick them up on Wednesday after 2, so I planned my very busy day so that I could get there on Wednesday sometime after 3. Got there and after he rummaged around for a minute, he mumbled "not today. I have too many shoes" in a very matter of fact-so deal with it-tone with no pretense of an apology. I was clearly disappointed, no, pissed off, but he didn't seem to care. He just handed me back my ticket and said "tomorrow." He said the shoes will be ready on Thursday (by the way he said he closes at noon--not sure if this is every Thursday though). I will be there at 9:30 am Thursday. I hope the workmanship redeems this business because the guy doesn't seem to think customer service matters one bit. I will update this review once I get my shoes back. I just want to warn people of the level of service to expect. Don't separate a lady from her shoes or you're asking for her wrath!! Update, I picked up my shoes on Thursday and they were nice. My boots were re-heeled and shined ($20). My flats were partially resoled ($22) but he said he couldn't do much about the scuffing on the leather upper because of the color - silver. Fair enough. He did seem a bit more human on day 2, so *maybe* I'll go back. I'm changing my rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. read more

I came to Boston Shoe Repair based on the Yelp reviews of quality workmanship. However, I was a bit too dismissive of the reviews that indicated the owner has a rude streak. Here's what happened to me. I brought a pair of boots to him that were in rough shape. He said it would cost $70, which seemed a bit steep to me given the prices indicated in other reviews. But perhaps boots are more challenging? I don't know. I put down $40 and he told me to come back on Tuesday. When I returned on Wednesday (I even gave him more time!), my boots were not ready. While he was rummaging around his pile, I noticed my boots were on the floor and hadn't been touched. When I pointed them out, he said he put them in the wrong pile. He looked embarrassed, but never apologized. He said to come back Friday. I came back on Friday and they were done. However, he gave no acknowledgement about being late and still offered no apology. When he asked for the remainder of the deposit, I tried to negotiate with him, given the delay. He got angry, told me that the delay had "nothing to do with anything" and proceeded to point out the quality of his work. He then told me they were late because he "needed more time", which was not what he said earlier in the week. I don't appreciate when people try to make excuses like that. I dropped $25 and left (I think a $5 rudeness fee was fair in the circumstances). He screamed at me as I walked away. And the best part? He didn't completely fix my shoes. The insoles are still really damaged, meaning I'm going to have to go somewhere to fix his shoddy work. Moral of the story? If you got to get your shoes repaired here and all goes smoothly, you'll probably be fine. But should something go awry, the owner will not take responsibility and you can expect to pay full price for not-so-great work. Needless to say, I will not be returning here! read more
