George needs a website and a working phone number. I had two pairs of leather shoes repaired with new soles ($110). Work seemed fine, though the soles were glued to the uppers, not stitched as they had originally been made. Questioned that but he said it was how it was done. Wore the shoes twice and, surprise, they separated. Went back to George's little shop and he doesn't answer the door. Mailman walking by informs me that GEORGE IS ON VACATION. So I have a busted pair of shoes that I can't get fixed in a timely way. Just waiting for the other shoe and the other pair to break. Poor quality work and service.

Kind of a strange experience with the drop off, just not what I was expecting as far as the shop was concerned but I was confident my boots were in good hands when I left. I got a call from George explain that they didn't have the blue leather for my bottoms and what my options were. A few hour later I got a call back that they were finished. When I picked them up the next day I was very please with the finished product and the way the shoe wore afterwards. He does great work, go here.

The shop is at 120 Union Park St, basement apt. Ring the doorbell. Call if no one answers.

This shop is a hidden gem in the South End. George's shoe repair is a small business, run by a very polite and skilled cobbler named George. I dropped off my shoes for repair, and they were done perfectly 2 days later for a very reasonable fee. He had polished them, too, free of charge. The shop is difficult to find- it is in the basement apartment at 120 Union Park St (the address is listed wrong several places on the internet). There is no sign. Just ring the doorbell, or call. I will bring George all of my shoe repair business.

Frye boots he took from ruin to brand new!

There is no wonder why George has 5 stars on yelp!! He is amazing I had a pair of Frye boots for 5 years that i wore in all weather and were on the verge of being thrown out! The leather was cracked and discolored from salt and winter wear, the heel was worn down to the wood and the soles were coming off making it difficult to walk! George fixed all of these and made them look brand new for only $55!!! This was half the price some of the other shoe repair shops quoted me! I dropped the shoes off on Monday and asked George if they would be done by the weekend, much to my surprise he called the next day to say all the work was complete! I will never go any other place!

New heel... They even polished up my shoes!

I chose to bring a pair of shoes to get the heels replaced after reading that George's shoe repair is one of the top cobblers in Boston. I live in Milton so we had to drive--there is no easy parking in the area as George's is on a street permitted for residents only (all times). At the end of Union Park, at Albany, there are metered spots. Note, there is signage so you could easily miss where George's is if you did not have the address (120 Union Park). The shop is located in the basement apartment. The lady inside saw us walking around lost, and so she opened the door to greet us (thank you!). We were a little lost! I dropped off my shoes, and she looked them over. She said the soles still had life in them but the heels would need replaced. They said that it would be ready Friday (it is Tuesday) but would call when the shoes were ready. Cash or check for payment when shoes are picked up. Well... I got a call from George the next day (!) indicating that the shoes were ready for pick up. I was amazed how quickly they were done. The shoes were perfectly re-heeled and they even polished up the shoes. I feel like I have a new pair of shoes. The total cost was $30, which I felt reasonable (it would have been $25 back in Chicago). I am a happy customer and will definitely be back with my other shoes!

George rebuilt the rubber heels on my waterproof boots after I literally wore a hole through the bottom. They look like new!

Great work. I came in with a vintage leather handbag that had a broken strap. He was honest with me…read morethat the leather wasn't in great shape and even if he fixed the strap, there would be more issues down the line. I appreciated the honesty so that I didn't fix it without knowing it could be for nothing. But I opted to have it fixed and purchased his recommended leather conditioner. Only $15 for the repair. Maybe it won't last a long time but I love the purse and will give it the best chance it's got.

I have never written a review like this before and I won't pretend there are no spiteful feelings…read moreon my part, that would be a lie. However having gone through what I just did though and knowing the generally good reputation this business has, I feel like I owe it to others to at least try to get the word out everywhere I can and hopefully stop someone from making the same mistake. I had gone to Dave's once before and despite some customer service issues(they somehow lost track of the shoes for a few days) I was impressed with the repair job so I wanted to give them my business again. I took in the shoes my husband bought specially for our wedding to address a few scrapes from a fall he took during the reception. When I picked them up yesterday, they looked different in a way I couldn't place right away but the scratches were better and I had to get back within my lunch hour so I paid and left. It didn't process until I saw them out of the bag at home that they had totally polished over the unique burnished finish and made them a uniform dark brown, completely removing a large part of their charm(see the photos of the brown shoes I'm uploading for reference). My husband and I were devastated. We're not rich, nice shoes like these were an investment piece for him and held sentimental value for both of us. It could be they saw this as necessary to cover the scratches, I can't be sure. What I do know is that I was never asked or even told about it. Even all that by itself might not have been enough to get inspire me to write this review though, that is owed completely to how they handled it. I called them to complain. I won't lie, I was still upset and it probably showed in my voice. I made a very active effort to keep my words civil though and explained the issue plainly. I wasn't interested in anything except an acknowledgement and potential advice to fix this. Once I finished explaining, they hung up on me. I called back, ready to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident (even if I doubted it personally). They picked up and immediately hung up again. Disgraceful. Entirely Disgraceful. To the owners: I took the shoes and paid you, I acknowledge that and realize I don't have the power to do much here. However, as someone who works just around the corner, I am going to do my damnedest to caution anyone I can away from you. That probably won't do a hell of a lot, but I like to think you won't get off entirely scot-free for treating me like garbage. If it also helps someone else stay away from my mistake, even better.

Beacon Hill Shoe Instant Repair was up for the challenge, didn't even mention it being an issue. The owner sourced completely new bottoms (w/ extra traction as my primary mode of transportation is walking - didn't even have to ask him for that), new heels, fixed some niches in the leather, cleaned up the entire shoe and even fixed the zippers when I didn't ask. They look unrecognizable! Unfortunately, I don't have any "before" photos but next time I will. Very, very affordable too! I was quoted much more, for much less work at other shops. (He typically writes the price on the ticket he gives you when you drop off your items, so you aren't surprised with price fyi). Will be going back, I have like a dozen shoes I need fixing. Also I really like the ambiance of the place! The owner is very hardworking, thank you so much!!!! :)
